Mrs. Gloria de Jersey (née James) April 27, 1923 - October 02, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel On Saturday, October 2nd, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital, Gloria de Jersey passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was predeceased by her mother Nellie McLeod in 1987. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John; her sons Robert (Flo) and Les (Judy); her daughters Joan Tyson and Diane (Keith) Jeffery; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gloria had a passion for life; she enjoyed meeting people and making friends. Another great past time of Gloria’s was playing bingo and yelling really loud to be sure they didn’t forget to bring her her winnings. She loved playing cards with her friends, family and especially her grandchildren at Mordens Meadows in the summer months. Gloria had a love for pets, which she admiringly passed down to all her children. She always loved talking about the family pet dog Pal. There were many wonderful memories of Pal and the whole family while we were growing up. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful heartfelt care that mom received from all the staff of Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home. We would also like to thank the emergency and 5th Floor staff of the Victoria General Hospital for all their compassionate care. A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5th in the Fellowship Hall at the Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home, 577 St. Anne’s Road. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society, Diabetes Society or the Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home. Bernard (Bernie) Roy Justason ST. STEPHEN, NB - It is with great sadness the family of Bernard Justason announce his passing on Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB after a lengthy illness. Born at Pennfield Ridge, NB on August 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Harold Roy and Florence Pearl (Hawkins) Justason. A veteran of World War II, Bernard graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from The University of New Brunswick in 1949. He worked as a surveyor for the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources in Ottawa until his retirement in 1980. Bernard then begun a Land Surveying business in Cap-Pele, NB until moving to St. Stephen, NB in 1996. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed walking, prospecting and daily visits to the gym. Survived by his wife, Helen (Landry); two sons, Eric and Gary both of Ottawa, ON.; three daughters, Diane of Toronto, ON, Brenda Hunter (William) of Nanaimo, BC., Nancy of South Slocan, BC.; three granddaughters, Nicole, Denise and Kelly; two sisters, Lois Southard and Audrey Collet both of St. George, NB.; sister-in-law, Mary (Nickerson) Justason of St. George, NB.. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Justason. There will be no funeral service held by request. MILLS, WILLIAM A. - The death of William A. Mills, husband of Cecil Ann (Northrup) Mills, occurred on October 1, 2004, at his residence. Born in Saint John he was the son of Laura (Crilley) and the late Lloyd A. Mills. He was employed for 30 years as a meat cutter with Sobeys. He enjoyed woodworking and his time spent outdoors gardening and fishing. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by his son Jason and his daughter Natasha, both of Saint John, his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Brown of St. Andrews, his grandson Morgan William Tesink-Mills and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His daughter Stephanie and his brother Robert (Bob) predeceased him. At the family's request there will not be visitation at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424). Following cremation there will be a private service with interment taking place at St. Joseph's Cemetery. FARRIS, LOIS MAY The death of Lois May Farris of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Sunday, October 3rd, 2004. Born in Nashwaaksis, NB, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ina (Colter) Pugh and the wife of the late Everett Farris. Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. The grandchildren nick named her " Nannie Cows" because of the farm they once owned. Lois's family loved to visit her, as her sense of humour was very special and memorable. Survived by one daughter, Sandra Nickerson of Fredericton, NB; six grandchildren, Sonja Farris, Laura Heffern (Troy), Patti Munn-Farris, Jennifer Nickerson, Joanna Nickerson and Daniel Nickerson; four great grandchildren, Ashley Farris (Linden), Kristin Thompson, Natasha Heffern and Emily Heffern; one sister, Millicent Sweet of Fredericton; one daughter-inlaw, Penny Farris and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Harry Neilson; second husband, Everett Farris; one son, George Farris and two brothers, Colter and David Pugh. VEY, JOSEPH (JOE) - The death of Joseph (Joe) Vey husband of 32 years to Margot C. (McLeod) occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late John and Esther (Foster) Vey. Joe worked for the City of Saint John in the Water and Sewage Department for many years. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Besides his wife Margot, Joe is survived by son Robert C. Vey (Barb), Rothesay, daughters Joanne MacMillan, Rothesay and Paulette Seely (Scott) of Hampton, stepson Norman McLeod of Ontario, step-daughter Elaine Danahy of Saint John and a special devoted step-daughter Tammy Marr (Allan), two brothers, Bruce Vey (Tina), Alberta and Ronald Vey (Kathy), Kingston Peninsula, NB, half brother Kenneth Lane (Muriel), Toronto, Ont., half sister Hilda Bursey, NL, grandchildren Tabatha, Scott, Kendra, Adam and Taylor, a very special granddaughter Keri Phinney, grandchildren Sandy and Wendy, several nieces and nephews. Après le goûter, les restes seront transportés à Sainte-Agathe pour être inhumés au cimetière de la paroisse. Her cremated remains will be transported to Sainte-Agathe after the reception and interred in the parish cemetery. Tamara "Martha" Yurkiwski May 12, 1923 - September 30, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Glen Eden Funeral Home (Winnipeg) In memory of a loving wife, mother, grandmother who passed away tragically. Left to mourn her passing are her husband William of 57 years; her daughters, Anne Marie Bell and Vicky Evans (Terry Ryder); and her granddaughters, Tamara and Larissa Evans; her sole surviving sister Rita Pauls (Henry); her many nieces and nephews and many friends. Tamara was predeceased by her loving son Tony in 1997; and her sisters, Anne Woelke, Helen Eck and Maria Wiebe; and her four brothers. Tamara was born in Ukraine on May 12, 1923 - the seventh child of nine children. In 1950, Tamara moved to Old Kildonan where she lived until her death. Tamara and William started and successfully ran a family business - McPhillips Construction Ltd. for over 30 years. Our mother loved to cook and bake - there was always a place at her table and in her heart for all who came. In the summer, her favourite times were spent in the garden and yard. A stroke in 2001 slowed her down temporarily and her "feisty" nature had her back in the garden within a month. A life filled with numerous hardships didn't diminish her indomitable spirit and she will be remembered as - always active, always caring, always giving. Our thanks to the attending police and Health Sciences Centre emergency staff. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done, I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days, I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long, And cherish those very special memories to which I belong. STRONG, John Nicholas Born May 31, 1977, was taken from us unexpectedly in his sleep on October 1, 2004. Beloved son of Barry and Sharon (nee Schiller) Strong. John will be missed by brothers and sisters Kelly and husband Mike, Colleen, Catherine and husband Louie, Maureen and husband John, Christina and husband Bill, Ray and wife Sherri, Carolyn and husband Achille, Mary Anne, and Tom. Uncle to Kurtis, Nicholas, Blake, Lukas, Connor, Christopher, Corey, Fana, Cecilia, Spencer, Alexis, Lucca, and Matteo. He will be especially missed by Jen. Friend to all. An award-winning dramatic arts student in high school, John graduated from University of Windsor in 2000 with an Honours degree in Criminology, and chose to work in the restaurant industry, becoming an acclaimed and well-respected chef. His charisma, his intelligence, his selflessness, and especially his sense of humour made him loved by those left to remember and celebrate his life.
