Mr. Gordon William Govenlock - July 15, 1915 - May 12, 2004 - Passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital on Wednesday, May 12, 2004. Born in Manitoba, July 15, 1915. Lovingly remembered by his family; wife of 40 years Elizabeth; sons; Stuart(Terry) and Alden (Kathie); 9 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren; brother; Charlie (Betty) and sister Islay. Gordie was active in Sooke with Cubs, Scouts, Sooke Community Association and the Sooke Museum. Served with the Royal Canadian Army over seas during WWII. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #54 as well as the Duncan Senior Centre. A special thank you to Dr. Glen Robinson, the nurses and staff of the Cowichan District Hospital for the wonderful care and dedication they gave. A memorial tea will be held at the Duncan Senior Centre, 198 Government Street, Duncan, BC on Sunday, May 16, 2004 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Flowers gratefully declined. Mary Wilhemina Klages - January 05, 1912 - May 29, 2004 - Mary Klages aged 92 years, passed away peacefully at Versa Care. Born in Hanover, Germany, she was the daughter of Gottlieb and Augusta Klages. Raised in Slate River, she attended the local school and Toronto Bible College. She was employed as a cook by various Great Lakes shipping companies for many years and thoroughly enjoyed telling stories of her adventures. Since retirement and until recently she enjoyed bingo, shopping, handwork and continued her gadget collecting. She was a staunch supporter of her church and a member of the Moose Lodge. For many years she walked daily from her Rankin street home to the Herb Carroll Centre for her lunch and friendship, eventually making her home at the Lincoln Centre. Predeceased by her parents and siblings Henry, Charlie, Bobby, Felix and Eric. Minnie is survived by her sister Lena Adam (Port McNicol) and brother George (Laura), Thunder Bay and by many nieces and nephews, all of whom she was very proud. She was especially close to Greg, Gary, Brenda and Bever. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 1st, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Edward Street with burial to follow at Moose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church if friends so desire.

Earl Gingrich -- - passed away on May 18, 2004 at the Veteran’s Wing of Wascana Rehab Centre, Regina, Sask. He was predeceased by his parents Ira and Lydia Ann Gingrich, brothers Harold and Cliff and sister Beulah. He is survived by his wife Irene of Imperial, Sask., son Dennis (Gale) of Toronto and grandchildren September, Trevor, Kelly and Penny. Also surviving are sisters Stella and Norma of Winnipeg, brother Cam (Lil) of Simpson, Sask, sisters-in-law Olga of New Westminster and Dorothy of Edmonton, as well as several step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Earl was born on the family farm near Guernsey, Sask. on May 23, 1917. He received his schooling at Guernsey while helping on the farm. He loved riding horses and playing hockey. He studied Aeronautics at Saskatoon Technical Institute. In 1940 Earl joined the R.C.A.F. where he trained as an aeroplane mechanic. After his discharge he worked on the Alaska Highway. Various careers followed. He worked on the Lassiter project clearing land in the Peace River area where he farmed for a short time. At the age of 49 Earl attended the University of Alberta, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Vocational Education. He taught for 15 years in Edmonton at Harry Ainlay, M.E. Lazerte and Wagner Schools. After Earl retired he published two books. In 1988 Earl and Irene settled in Imperial, Sask. not far from Earl’s birthplace. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held in the Imperial United Church on May 24th at 2:00 p.m. Interment is to take place in Edmonton at a later date.Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home.

Joseph "Ray" Raymond Godin - May 04, 1959 - May 19, 2004 - 45, Lower Sackville, passed away suddenly while at work Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 12 Wing Shearwater. Born May 4, 1959, in Chatham, N.B., he was a son of Real and Denise Godin, Maisonnette, N.B. Ray joined the Canadian Forces in 1977 and worked as an airframe technician at Shearwater and Trenton, Ont. He also served on HMCS Preserver during Operation Apollo in the war against terrorism. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, the former Dianne Martineau; children, Andre (16), Ashley (14), Victoria (13); brothers, Paul (Natalie), Kingston, Ont.; Jean (Barb), MacKenzie, B.C.; nephews, J.P., Ian, Scott. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Elizabeth "Betty" Theresa Kresack (née Toman) - November 14, 1920 - May 25, 2004 - aged 83 years, resident of Thunder Bay passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at St. Joseph's Care Group. Betty was born in Fort William to Helen and Peter Toman and she was educated in local schools. She married John Kresack on October 5, 1937 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1987, and have been together 67 years. She was employed with Woolworth's as a Supervisor, retiring in 1980. Betty's main interests were her home, family, gardening and crocheting. She was a member of St. Agnes Church. Survived by husband John at home, son Ron (Joan) and daughter Eleanor Jensen. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren, sister Helen Chovancah of Stoney Creek and nieces and nephews. Sophie Kydyk (née Wladyka) - Peacefully on May 27, 2004, Sophie Kydyk passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge, aged 97 years. Sophie was predeceased by her parents Paska and Phillip Wladyka, her husband Ernest Dion and her second husband Nickola Kydyk, sisters Anne and Josie, brothers Paul and John, also her daughter Marie and sons Arthur and George. Left to mourn her passing are sisters Kay and Mary; brother Mike; sons Paul (Mary), Joe (Genie), Edward (Barbara), Marcel (Carol) and 19 grand children; 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Sophie arrive in Canada at the age of 10 months with her mother in 1907 from the Ukraine. They homesteaded in Zbaraz (Interlake area) until 1952, at which time they moved to Winnipeg. She established many dear friends through her kind and loving nature, who will miss her dearly. The family wishes to extend appreciation for the care and compassion extended to Sophie by the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge in the Evergreen Wing. Born in Saint John West she was the daughter of the late Percival and Bessie (Riley) McIlveen. Audrey was a member of the Carleton-Kirk United Church and was involved in many organizations. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ted; one daughter Shirley (Jim) Leavitt of Bains Corner; two grandsons Keith (Jocelyn) Blizzard, Kirk (Jacaleen) Blizzard; one great grandson Ryan Blizzard. Audrey will also be greatly missed by a special nephew Wendell Harquail and his wife Sam of Moncton as well as Laura and Dave Richard of St. Martins who were her caretakers for the past three years, and also several nieces and nephews. ENGLISH, Patrick James: C.W.O. (Ret) RCAF, Suddenly after a brief illness at the St. Catharines General Hospital early Saturday, October 2, 2004 with his loving family by his side, in his 86th year. Loving husband and best friend of Agnes for 61 yea rs. Dear father of Gordon (Gail) of Fonthill and Cathy (Richard) Whitmore of Queensville. Proud grandfather of Michael, Amy and David English. Born July 11, 1919 at Indian Head, Saskatchewan, raised on a prairie farm during the tough time of the 20's and 30's, Pat has a 33-year career with the Royal Canadian Air Force, retiring in 1974 and later relocating to St. Catharines to be near some of his family. He was an avid HAM radio operator, leather worker, all round handyman and also enjoyed many years at his cottage on Eagle Lake near Kingston. Pat was a long time member of the Air Force Association of Canada, the FSNA and the Air Force Telecom Association. Some of his other interests included bowling and square dancing. Pat will be forever remembered and sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He will be resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Tuesday morning at 10:30. Bertha Florence Cuthbert (née Brown) June 21, 1923 - October 03, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre In loving memory of Bertha Florence Cuthbert (nee: Brown), born June 21, 1923 in Kenora, Ontario, passed away October 3, 2004 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre following a long and courageous battle with cancer, with family at her side.
