JONES, LOIS ROWENA The death of Lois Rowena Jones of Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, occurred on the 15th of August 2004 in her 89th year. Born in Fredericton in 1916, she as the eldest child of the late Ludlow Chester Malloy and Brittania (Noble) Malloy. Her paternal grandfather, Peter James Malloy, was of UEL ancestry; her maternal grandfather, William Bedford Noble, was a lumber baron in Sunbury County. As a child, she lived in Milltown (Charlotte County) and attended local schools. In 1937, she married Harold Theodore Jones and moved to McAdam Junction, where they made their home. She was predeceased by her husband in 1982. Throughout her life, she was a member to the St. Paul's United Church (McAdam), where she sang in the choir, served in the UCW, worked with the Mission Band, and supported fund- raising activities. She was a 55-year member of the Past Matron of York chapter #13, Order of the Eastern Star (McAdam). For a number of years, she was employed at the CPR Dining Room, and later with two McAdam stores. She is survived by her daughter Victoria (Vicky), and by her son Theodore (Ted) and his wife Anita; four grandchildren (Stephanie, Brenda, Debra, and Adam); five great- grandchildren; three nephews; and several cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Jean Cleghorn, and her brother, Donald Malloy, both of St. Stephen. The remains are resting at St. Paul's United Church in McAdam, with visitation on Tuesday from two until four and from seven until nine. The funeral service will take place from the Church on Wednesday at 2 pm, with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. Interment will be in the Rockland Cemetery, McAdam. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the charity of the donor's choices. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to S. O. BROWN, CARL MURDOCK - The death of Carl Murdock Brown, husband of Alice (Monahan) Brown occurred peacefully on August 14, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 84. Born on Miscou Island, NB, he was the son of the late George and Rena (Vibert) Brown. Carl was employed by Saint John Ship Building Limited and then owned and operated a taxi cab for Vet's Taxi for several years. Carl was quiet family man who took great pleasure in his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his wife Alice loved to go camping around New Brunswick, Ontario and the U.S.A. He enjoyed wrestling, both live and on video. Carl is survived by four sons, Wayne (Suzanne), Musquodobit Harbour, NS, Lawrence (Marion), California, USA, Hazen, Saint John, NB, and David (Pat), Saint John, NB; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Elsie Brown, Jane Harper, Lorna Ferguson, all of Saint John, NB, and Lyma Crocker, Bangor, Maine, USA; sister-in-law Patricia Bonner; and several nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by Elmer, Byron, MacKenzie, Lettie, Della Colbourne and Melinda Wirth. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). JUSTASON, ELEANOR ELIZABETH - The death of Mrs. Eleanor Elizabeth (Goditt) Gaudet Justason, of Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, NB., formerly of Pennfield, NB., wife of the late Alden Cleveland Justason (Allie), occurred at her residence on Saturday, August 14, 2004. Born at Weymouth North, Digby Co., NS., on October 6, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Frederick George Gaudet and Ethel Delila (Weaver) Gaudet. Eleanor is survived by one son; Cleveland Justason (Mary Ann) of Pennfield; one sister; Ethel Doucette of Blacks Harbour; two half sisters; Julia Hawkins of St. George, NB; and Juanita Cheney of Saint John; one half brother; Stephen Fowler Frederick Gaudett of L'Etete, NB; several nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers; Hanford Gaudett, and William Gaudett; one sister Kathleen Cooke; two half sisters, Velma Leeman; and Jenny Patterson. Eleanor worked many years as a cook at the Fundy Health Center, Blacks Harbour, NB. She was a member of the Harbour View Senior Citizens Club, a member of the Calvary United Baptist Church. Past Grand Mistress, Right Worshipful Grand Lodge, NB., a member of the Crystal Chapter # 13, Saint John, NB., Honorary member of Pythian Sisters Maple Leaf # 30, Milltown, NB., and a member of the L.O.B.A. # 934 Lepreau, NB., over 50 years. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB (755-3533), with visiting on Monday, August 16, 2004, from 7 to 9 pm.. Tuesday August 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. RODGERS, GORDON ROBERT - The death of Gordon Robert Rodgers of Baxters Corner, NB, husband of Margaret (Burchill) Rodgers occurred in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 15, 2004, surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Jones) Rodgers. Gordon lived and breathed trucking, working for Sunbury Transport Limited for over 20 years. He would be in his own special heaven when he was in his old greasy clothes working on his truck. His other great passion in life was his dog Ocean; one would never been seen without the other. Gordon is survived by one son Robert (Karie Doyle) Rodgers; three daughters, Janice (Bob Mortimer) Rodgers, Anita (Brent) Seymour, Pauline Rodgers all of Baxters Corner, NB; one brother Russell (Betty) Rodgers; and one sister Helen Dalling, both of Baxters Corner, NB.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Cody, Levon, Alyssa, and Colby. Irene Margaret Taillieu Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister and “auntie” Irene on August 15, 2004 after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Charleswood where she was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Irene completed a program at Success Business College and was a very devoted employee, working as a switchboard operator and director with the same employer for more than 30 years. She was an avid hockey and football fan and never missed the chance to watch her beloved Bombers and Leafs. Irene loved all of her family and was especially devoted to her nieces and nephews. She was very generous to them and treated them as though they were her own children. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Edmond and Maria Taillieu, her brother George and sisters, Alice, Angel, Godelieve and Margaret. She leaves to mourn her brothers, Marcel (Heather) and Godfrey (June), sisters Mary Bannatyne and Lorraine McTaggart as well as many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Eileen Louise Lionas (née Wilson) May 18, 1951 - August 12, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Lionas, Eileen Louise. After a courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully surrounded by love, on August 12, 2004 at the Cowichan District Hospital. Lovingly remembered by son David (Mary); daughter Brenda (Shane); grandchildren Dustin and Aden; siblings Alan (Robin), Holly, Peter (Karen) and Doreen; eight nieces; three nephews and her dear friend Judy. Born on May 18, 1951 in Duncan, BC, Eileen devoted her life to lovingly raising her two children, David and Brenda. She worked as a bus driver for the Cowichan School District and then later as a department manager for Walmart. Ever a kind and gentle spirit, Eileen was always quick to lend a hand or offer emotional guidance and support to those fortunate enough to have known her. Nearing the apex of her life on earth, Eileen was blessed with two long anticipated grandchildren with whom she shared great joy and unconditional love. At this time, Eileen also began her spiritual journey inward, spending time at Hollyhock Retreat on Cortez Island, rejuvenating her soul and adding sparkle to her already shining spirit. SOHMER, Loretta Audrey - In the loving arms of her husband and four children, Loretta Audrey Sohmer (Petrunia) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday August 12, 2004. Beloved wife and best friend for 50 years of David Sohmer, Loving mother of Linda Wallace, David Sohmer, Penny Cheynowski and Susan Legros and their spouses. Treasured grandmother of David, Lindsay and Kristy Wallace, Katie and Matthew Cheynowski, and Alexis and Andrew Legros. She is also survived by her loving sister Theresa Qua and her family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Anna Petrunia. Loretta was born September 19, 1935 in Lethbridge, Alberta and later moved to St. Catharines where she was raised. After marrying in 1954, she spent 5 years living and working in the Bronx, New York and moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario in 1959 to raise her family. She committed her life to her husband, children and grandchildren and we will all carry her in our hearts forever. At the request of Loretta, a private family ceremony and interment has taken place. JOHN ROGOZA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, with family present, of John Rogoza, 86, into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Born March 14, 1918 in Gardenton, Man. to the late William and Anastasia Rogoza, John married Kay, his sweetheart and love of his life, on Oct. 9, 1939. John spent his early years at various bush camps honing the art of wood-cutting and earning a proud reputation for his strength, skill, and work ethic. Diversifying and partnering with brother, Matt, he served up “many a tasty meal” at the Fort Frances Coffee Bar and Rainy Lake Hotel. Finally, employed by Boise Cascade, he worked as a valued employee in the finishing room for 23 years. Retirement afforded him the opportunity to enjoy the things he loved most: family, friends, church, gardening, wood-cutting/carpentry, nature, berry/mushroom-picking, card games, TV (“Jeopardy”), and fine dining. “Guid,” as he was affectionately known, was a warm, remarkable man who contributed to his community by devoting not only countless hours to St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (treasurer/cantor), but also sharing his tenderly-cultivated surplus garden produce to appreciative recipients. Most importantly, and above all else, John directed his heart and passion toward serving the Lord as evidenced by his 30 years of dedicated service. Loving and caring, honest and honourable, John’s steadfast 64-year commitment to loving wife, Katherine, has left an enduring legacy to his family. His support as a father/grandfather, mischievous sense of humour, generosity, and trusting good nature made him an unforgettable, unique, and special man. John Rogoza was predeceased by his sister, Mary (Badiuk); brothers, Nick and Matt; and great-granddaughter, Ashlee. MALLETT, Ted April 21, 1923 - August 8, 2004 Edmund Stansfield Mallett, Rockcliffe Park, Ottawa, died after a brief and brave struggle with cancer. He was born in Bradford, Yorkshire. Data recorded in his Who's Who entry cite the biographical facts and his many accomplishments, but no words can convey the quality of the life he lived or the nature of his fine character. The eldest son of Cecil Finer Mallett and Elsie Stansfield, he was called Ted from birth by everyone, including his children. Married first to Nancy Campbell (1923-1983), he met his second wife Jocelyn Maynard Ghent in Paris and married her there in 1985. Between them they have five children - John, Richard and Peter Mallett and David and Tove Ghent, plus seven grandchildren - Julia, Helen and Jessica Mallett and Lucy Crouch in the UK; Brooke and Curtis Ghent and Nathan Friedman, in the USA. He also leaves behind his brother Michael and sisters Brenda Campbell and Sheila Isaac who, with son-in-law Douglas Friedman, daughters-in-law Joanna Wexler, Felicity Crouch and Arathi Kylasam, many sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews, mourn him deeply. Ted moved to Canada with Jocelyn in 1985, upon retiring from his position as Director of Application Programs at the European Space Agency. He previously served in the UK as the Director of the National Maritime Institute, and as Under-Secretary in the Department of Industry responsible for Space, Research and Technological Requirements. Educated at Bradford Grammar School and Leeds University (BSc), his career also included work on gramophone pick-ups and 4 years with the Fairey Aviation Company. In 1950 he joined the Royal Aircraft establishment where he remained for over two decades in various positions dealing with scientific photography, data transmission and instrumentation, and culminating as Head of Instrumentation and Ranges. Publications include papers and articles on instrumentation and measurement. Ted's recreations were solving problems (he loved cryptic crossword puzzles), writing software, genealogy, antique automobiles, art and music. He was particularly fond of the late 19th and 20th century composers, music that is often played by the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra (OSO). Ted's family would therefore appreciate in memoriam contributions to the OSO (224-4982) or to Carleton University's general development fund (520-3636). In accordance with Ted's wishes, there is no funeral. His ashes will be scattered at Heart Lake in Quebec where he and Jocelyn spent so many happy summers together. A memorial event, where friends and family can remember Ted and share stories about this funny, kind, loving and wonderful husband and father, brother, uncle and friend is being planned for September 18.
