MRS. JANIE MAE GERVAIS 1915-2004 It is with deepest sorrow that our family announces the death of a devoted mother, cherished grandmother and adoring great grandmother on Monday July 12th, 2004 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital in Matheson. Janie Mae was the only child of John and Minnie Morrison of Porcupine. She was predeceased by her loving husband Wilfred Demasse in 1996. Janie Mae is the loving mother of Patricia Hebert of Porcupine, Wilfred (Mary Anne) of Victoria, B.C., and Jacques of the Schumacher Extendicare Nursing Home. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Janie Mae was a woman of incomparable style, beauty, grace and talent. She will be remembered for fresh oven-baked cookies, fun-loving picnics on the living room floor, warm and wonderful walks up the Old Farm Road and her wry sense of humour. For many years her beautiful singing voice could be heard during the Masses at St. Jude’s Church in Porcupine. My brother Wilfred’s favourite memories of his precious mother include the family sing-alongs around the piano, accompanied by Auntie Claire Gervais. He attributes our wonderful love of music to our mamma and remembers her teaching us “Sentimental Journey” for voice and guitar. Janie Mae has written an insightful collection of inspirational poetry, steeped in her rich understanding of human nature, and her deep spiritual warmth. Our darling mother, grandmother and great grandmother will be so sadly missed and forever cherished for her rare beauty, her unyielding loyalty, her abundant generosity and her warm-hearted goodness towards her loving family members. Remembrance donations will be graciously received in her memory to Bingham Memorial Hospital or Rosedale Manor made through the funeral home. Born in Marriott's Cove, Lunenburg Co., February 12, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Artimas and Naomi (Cleveland) Boutilier. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was one of 18 children. She was the wife of the late Lucien Joseph Ratto. She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Joyce), Tantallon; Gordon, Halifax; William (Mary), Sackville; eight grandchildren; many great and great great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Fairview. Dorothy was a homemaker, loved to garden, travel and loved her family. She will be sadly missed, always in our hearts. Born August 8, 1939, in East Preston, he was a son of the late William Willis and Hannah (Brooks) Thompson and the stepson of the late John Henry Thompson. Donald loved life with family and friends and was a very hard worker and a good provider for his family. He was a mason with the Colour Guard in Toronto and a member of the Men's Brotherhood, president of the Usher Board and was on the finance board, all with East Preston United Baptist Church. He joined the army in 1956 and then he went on to work at Moosehead Breweries in Dartmouth. While residing in Toronto, he was employed with Canada Post for 24 years until his retirement in 1995. Augustus "Gus" Crewe January 30, 1924 - July 13, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) CREWE, Augustus "Gus" - 80, Dartmouth, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with his family at his bedside. Born January 30, 1924, in Red Island, Burgeo, NL, he was a son of the late Sam and Maude (Foote) Crewe. He left home at the age of 17 to come to Nova Scotia where he lived all his life. He was a merchant mariner during the Second World War and a wireless operator following his service. He spent three years on St. Paul's Island. After furthering his education, he was an electronics technician with the Department of Transport until his retirement in 1979, as station manager at Halifax Marine Radio in Ketch Harbour. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church in Westphal at the time of his passing. He was a former long-standing member of St. Andrew's Church in Spry Harbour, where he served as the warden of the church and parish, as well as treasurer of the cemetery fund. He was also a founding member of Tangier Volunteer Fire Department. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a talented accordion player. Gus will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, the former Hannah Barnes; son, Nathan (Susan), Musquodoboit Harbour; daughter, Maizie, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Sam (Elicia), Colleen (John), Laura; great-granddaughters, Kristen, Ashley; brother, Ned (Claris), Dartmouth; sisters, Jessie, Halifax; Gladys, St. John's, NL. He was predeceased by his sister, Ethel; brothers, Nathan, Frank, Cyril. Richard was a transport highway driver for most of his working life and an owner/driver for Casino Taxi Ltd., until the time of his death. She spent summers at home gardening and actively participating in the seniors' club, the Friendly Group. Every Monday morning, she exercised with the group from the Waverley Legion. Murdock Sinclair May 13, 1958 - July 14, 2004 After a lengthy illness it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Murdock Sinclair. He passed away on July 14, 2004 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Murdock was born May 13, 1958 at Moose Lake, Manitoba.
