DRAPER; Belford Alexander "Alex"- At the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Thursday March 25th, 2004 at the age of 78. Loving husband and best friend of Clara. Cherished father of Laura (Doug) Core, Luanne (Randy) Babel and Jim (Maureen) Draper. Proud Papa of Sarah Joyce Draper and proud Grandpa of Sarah Elizabeth Core. Alex served in the Canadian Navy during World War II, and was employed for many years with Ontario Hydro as a Regional Operator. He was a member of Stamford United Church, The Adoniram Lodge, The Order of the Eastern Star, The Elgin Lodge of Perfection Chapter of the Scottish Rite, the Niagara Chapter of the Rose Croix, The Niagara Shrine Club and the Rameses Shriners. At the personal request of Alex, all funeral services will be held in private with his family, followed by cremation. As an expression of sympathy, in memoriam contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the GNGH Emergency Room Fund, would be appreciated by the family. Donations may be completed at Hetherington and Deans Funeral Chapel, on Victoria Avenue. Though his obstacles were many, he never lost his sense of humour or wit. MCCARTNEY, ERNESTINE BERNICE The death of Ernestine B. McCartney of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, March 25, 2004. Born in Salmon Bay, Queens Co., NB on April 20, 1913 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Blanch (Munro) Barton and wife of the late Hazen H. McCartney. Ernestine graduated from Normal School in Fredericton and taught school in the Chipman Minto area for many years and later at the Barker's Point Elementary School. Survived by one son, Willard Blake McCartney (Barbara) of Fredericton, NB; two sisters, Cora Chase of St. George, NB and Doris Tiffin of London, ON; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Hazen; five brothers, Carey, Warren, Clifford, Burns, Calvin and one sister, Marie. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, March 30th, 2004 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Ralph Irving will officiate. Harvey was a schoolteacher for 39 years, 7 years at Salisbury and 32 years in several Kings County Schools and the last 22 years as a language teacher. CRINION, Peter Donel. September 5, 1939 - March 15, 2004, only child of the late Jean McAinsh and Brendon Joseph Crinion, of Montreal, died suddenly in Port St. Lucie Medical Center. RATCLIFFE, Willa Myrtle (nee Leggett). BA, Queens University. Peacefully at Hawkesbury General Hospital, March 26 2004 in her seventy-ninth year. Beloved and devoted wife of fifty-eight years, of the late Edward Ratcliffe (2002); loving mother of Howard (Grace Welch) of Ottawa, Laurene (Peter Boag) of Perth Road, ON. and Elaine (Andre Dessureault) of Chute a Blondeau, ON. Much loved Grammy of John and Kate Ratcliffe, Gemma, Angela and Thomas Boag, Samuel Thomas and Benjamin Dessureault. Willa was born in Montreal on August 28, 1925, the daughter of Myrtle Wand and William Leggett. She grew up and married in St. Lambert, QC. In 1961, the family moved to Mont St. Hilaire. Ed and Willa retired to Kingston in 1979, where Willa earned her BA from Queens, graduating in 1991. She was an avid gardener, lover of the arts, and tireless volunteer for many organizations, especially Parkinson Society Canada. Also survived by brother-in-law Jim Ratcliffe (Betty) of Vancouver, several cousins, nieces and nephews and grandnieces. Predeceased by her brother Bill Leggett (1993) and her special Aunt, Edythe Leggett (March 10, 2004). The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Staff of the Hawkesbury General Hospital, Dr. Jean Therrien, Bozena Niedziela, the staff of ParaMed, Bayshore and WeCare Agencies, the kind care of VON volunteers, Ghislaine B. Lalonde, Micheline Racine and Pat Graham, and especially Mme. Mugette Villeneuve and her sisters. CONSTAS, ALEX D The death of Alex D. Constas (Constantinidis) of Lincoln, NB, husband of Pauline Roop occurred unexpectedly at his home on Thursday March 25th, 2004. Born in Kavola, Greece, and raised in Athens he was the son of the late Athanas and Georgia (nee Spyridis) Constantinidis. Alex graduated as a marine engineer and worked with The Onassis Shipping Line prior to immigrating to Canada in 1954. He worked for the US Army in Goose Bay and Resolution Island. He later earned a degree from Sir George Williams University in Montreal after which he became affiliated with the John Deere Company prior to moving to Fredericton in 1967. Alex was a well known businessman and established the Prentice Loader Dealership in Fredericton and was involved in other entrepreneurial endeavors over the years. Alex was very civic minded having at one time served as an auxiliary member of both the RCMP and the NB Highway patrol. Alex recently received honorary mention for having made more then 100 blood donations. He was a proud 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis of Assisi Council 9496 and Sir Knight of the Rev. Dr. G. Everett Chalmers Assembly 0620. He was an avid athlete who enjoyed Greco Roman Wrestling and running. Alex also held a black belt in Judo and taught Judo to many Fredericton Youth. He enjoyed boating and resurrecting old cars. Alex was an avid historian and Patriotic Canadian who deeply loved his adopted country and cherished the Constitution of Canada. Alex is survived by his loving wife Pauline; one sister, Helen Tsaltas and her husband General Christopher Tsaltas of Athens, Greece; one niece, Dr. Lila Tsaltas of Athens, Greece; his step-children, Maria Montalvo-Vachon (Andre), Beatriz Montalvo - Holguin (Max), Juanita Montalvo (Magda) and Juan Carlos Montalvo (Stacey); his six step-grandchildren, Denis, Natasha, Stephanie, Andrea (Vachon), Maxito, Sofia (Holguin). He was predeceased by his parents, and by one niece, Dr. Zeta Tsaltas. The family will receive visitors at River Valley Funeral Services 50 Avonlea Court, Fredericton, NB (off Bishop Drive) 455-4267 on Sunday March 28th, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 29th, 2004 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Ken Weir as celebrant. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the mass. Interment will take place at a later date in the Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal.
