SMITH, GRAYDON SHEPHERD The death of Graydon S. Smith of French Lake, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, December 31st, 2003. Born in French Lake, NB on January 27th, 1917, he was the son of the late Burden and Lillian (Barker) Smith and husband of Bertha Smith. Graydon worked as a cook all his life, cooking in lumber camps and sporting camps in his early years. He also worked as a cook for CPR for 36 years, retiring in 1978. Graydon was also a long serving member of the French Lake Baptist Church, serving as Deacon, Trustee, Usher and choir member. Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bertha; daughters, Carol (Bill) Falconer of Kingston, NS and Suzanne "Suzie" (Brian) DuPlessis of Woodstock, NB; sons, Darrell (Marjorie) Smith of Parry Sound, ON and Wilmot "Will" (Gail) Smith of French Lake, NB; grandchildren, Peter, Beth and MaryLee DuPlessis, Shelly Falconer, Cynthia (Mark) Richard, Rob (Katie) Smith, Janice Smith and Jennifer (Troy) Egeter; great grandchildren, Graydon and Maggie Smith; brothers, Claude (Verna) Smith and Neil (Mary) Smith and sisters-in-law, Helen (Burton) Smith and Helen (Willard) Smith. Predeceased by his parents, Burden and Lillian and brothers, Burton, Willard and Wilmot. Visitation will be held at the French Lake Baptist Church. There will be a private family visitation on Friday, January 2nd, 2004 from 7-9 pm with a public visitation being held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the French Lake Baptist Church on Sunday, January 4th, 2004 at 3:00 pm. Rev. Roger Richardson officiating. Interment will take place in the Morrow Cemetery. Sherwood A. Steeves NIXON, NB - Sherwood Arthur Steeves of Nixon, passed away Wednesday December 31, 2003 at home. Born in Steeves Mountain, he was a son of the late Noble and Lillian (Steeves) Steeves. Sherwood was a retired carpenter and a member of the Nixon Baptist Church. PLATT, Vivian Violet (nee Halsey) Peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville, ON, on December 30, 2003, after a long and brave battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Predeceased by her loving husband and "Buddy" John James Platt (Lt. Col. Retired). Vivian was the cherished mother of Peter and wife Cathy of Ottawa and Beverly and husband James Fleming of Orangeville; beloved Grandma to Joanne and Stephanie. BALLACHEY, Frank George Died in Penticton on December 28, 2003. Born in High River, Alberta, July 31, 1920. Frank was the third son and youngest of seven children of the late A.A. Ballachey, K.C. and Genevieve Ballachey (nee McDonell). Frank was raised in High River, went through public school there, and then attended the University of California, Berkley, from which he graduated with a degree in journalism. Following this, he joined the RCAF and trained at Fort Mcleod, Alberta, where he received his Pilot's Wings and Commission. He was sent to England where he served actively during the war years, flying various types of aircraft in England and the Middle East. After the war, Frank joined the Department of External Affairs in Ottawa, and served Canada in China, Indonesia, Indo-China and Sweden. It was while serving in Stockholm, Sweden that Frank met and married Kathleen Rivet, an economist with the American Embassy. Returning to Canada, Frank started a career in banking with the International Division of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Comêmerce in 1962, and in 1970 joined the Royal Bank of Canada, specializing in International Relations. He and Kay lived in Toronto and then Montreal, until moving to Ottawa in 1980 to establish the Royal Bank's Government Affairs Office, from which he retired in 1985. The Ballachey's had for many years a farm near Knowlton, Quebec, where they loved to garden and relax, and later a home in Florida which was also a source of great pleasure to both. After retirement, they chose to relocate to Penticton, B.C. Frank was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 1998; his father in 1943, his mother in 1961; an older brother, Major Alex Ballachey, killed in action in Normandy in August, 1944; and by three sisters, Mary McNeill, Florence Costello and Lola Davis. He is survived by a sister, Winnifred Balfour, a brother, John Ballachey and his wife Isamay, all of Calgary, and a brother-in-law, G/CRC Davis, of Edmonton. Frank is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta. The family is very grateful for the good times he had in Penticton, and would like to express thanks to the friends he made there for the support and kindness he received in the last few years. There are many who will miss Frank's stories about the various aspects of his life, the many places he traveled to and worked in, interesting people he met, and the broad range of his interests in politics and government, as well as his interest and delight in the lives of so many friends and relatives. ROCK, Arnold (Bud) Suddenly in Havana, Cuba on Sunday, December 21st, 2003. She is survived by her friend Paul, several nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her former husband, Oscar; sisters, Marie, Emma, Roseanne; brothers, Camille, Dosithé, Hypolite, and Joseph. She was the last survivor of her imêmediate family. Remains resting at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (8581900). DOHM, Donald Frederick "Fred" It is with great sadness, that the family announces the passing of Fred Dohm in his 84th year, at his new home Wyndham Manor, Oakville on December 29, 2003. Born in Kamloops, British Columbia, the youngest of six children. Fred served with the Air Force overseas for four years before returning to Vancouver where he married Jessie in 1945. Fred retired from Canada Customs after 30 years of loyal service. He and Jessie moved to Oakville in 1999 to be closer to their only child Heather Kerby. Having suffered a stroke November 29,2 003 Fred was taken first to the hospital and then transferred to Wyndham Manor, December 22, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie; daughter Heather and her husband Bob Kerby; grandchildren Deborah and her husband Daniel Brintnell, Rob and his wife Karen Kerby, Paul Kerby and Suzanne Kerby; great-grandchildren Thomas, Steven, Michael, Abby, Tyler and Morgan. Fred is also survived by his brother Robert.
