GALLANT Captain Arthur A. Gallant born January 16, 1907 passed away November 22, 2003 Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; his children Anne and Bill Moye, Robert and Jane Gallant, Cathie and Mike Dang, Elizabeth Gallant and Theresa Gallant; his grandchildren Catherine Moye, Stephen Moye, Laura Gallant and Ramon and Virginia Gallant; his great-grandchildren Hannah and Emily Moye and Dylon and Evyn Gallant; sisters Dola Ryan (NF), Sarah Fitzpatrick (NF), Mary and Junior Murphy (W.V.) and Agnes Gallant (NF); many nieces, nephews, relatives and extended family, Heather, Jacques, Maggie. Gary, Kevin and Jean and many good friends. Predeceased by Genevieve and George Paille, Hilda and Harry Goodland, Gerard and Nita Gallant, Pat Ryan and Gordon Fitzpatrick. Arthur left home in Newfoundland as a boy to pursue his dream of becoming a sea captain. He served the Canadian Government Merchant Marine for many years, becoming a Master Mariner in 1942 with his first command the S.S. Windermere Park. During W.W.II he served on the Lake ships and the Park ships. He sailed the B.C. Coast with Great West Towing retiring in 1972 when he began his second career teaching at the Navigation School and North Island College. He began studying History, English and French at S.F.U. obtaining his bachelors degree at age 80. He continued to study, read and play golf until age 95. The family would like to thank his doctors, the home care workers, the caring staff and residents of Renfrew Care Centre for their love and support. Special thanks to the Department of Veteran Affairs for making his last years more comfortable. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Helen's Church, 3860 Triumph St., Burnaby on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Vincent Cutrara, c.s. celebrant. Albert Gale Trifts YOUNG'S COVE, NB - Albert G. Trifts of Young's Cove, NB, in his 87 year, passed away peacefully in the presence of family at the Moncton Hospital on November 23, 2003 after a courageous battle with leukemia and Parkinson's Disease. Born in Young's Cove on March 13, 1917, the son of the late Walter and Nellie (Gale) Trifts. He was a Second World War veteran. During his life he was employed in road construction for many summers as grade foreman and in the winter he worked as a CPR trucker. His favorite employment was the time he spent as a woodsman. He and his wife operated Trift's Grocery in Young's Cove until 1991. He was an avid hunter, gardener and outdoorsman. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Gertie (Ripley); four children, Betty (Ron) Hooper of Petitcodiac, Dr. Robert (Celine) of Bass River, Dr. Jack (Jan) of Portland, ME, and Pat (Ken) Margeson of Moncton; nine grandchildren, Margo, Jan and Ron Hooper, Rob, Jon and Ben Trifts, Alyssa, Stephanie and Bradley Margeson; as well as five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his only sister, Lu Reese. Following cremation, a funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Young's Cove on Wednesday, November 26 at 11 am. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. At Albert's request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A reception will follow the funeral service. Doris will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law: Margaret MacNeill, Lakeville and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her Brother Robert. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. No visitation by personal request.
