AYOTTE, John Baptiste On October 17, 2003, Mr. John Baptiste Ayotte of Edmonton passed away at the age of 88. TÉTAGOUCHE SUD – À l’Hôpital régional Chaleur de Bathurst, le vendredi 17 octobre 2003, à l’âge de 38 ans, est décédée après une longue maladie Gisele Henry, épouse de Rheal Henry, domiciliée à Tétagouche Sud. Née à Québec, elle était fille de Gilbert et Gerarda (Lagacé) Arseneau de Robertville. Outre son époux et ses parents, elle laisse dans le deuil un fils, Jessie et une fille, Kayleen, tous deux à la résidence familiale; trois frères: Paul (Thelma Hachey) de Robertville, Gilles de Moncton et Éric (Sylvie Guitard) de Pointe-Verte; une soeur, Lise (Denis Comeau) de Bathurst, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Mme Henry était propriétaire avec son époux de Henry’s Pit Stop de Tétagouche Sud. Il n’y aura pas de visites à la Maison funéraire. RAYMOND (RAY) NORMAND 1930-2003 Peacefully, on Sunday, October 19, 2003, at the Riverview Health Centre, Ray passed away at the age of 73 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanette, of 47 years of marriage; daughter Debbie (Brian), Shelly of St. Amant; son Dean (Donna); two granddaughters, Lacey and Samantha; brothers, Cliff, Emile, David and Jerry; sisters, Lucille, Doris and Arlene; in-laws Marion, Enidth and Archie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ray was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Anna Normand, three brothers and two sisters. In compliance with Ray's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. LAFOND Albert Bert. The Muskeg Lake Cree Community mourns the passing of one of its Original 9 Aldina Pro Lites, a leader, a veteran, a brother, a father, a Mushoom and a friend. He passed away on October 19, 2003 at the St. Paul's hospital in Saskatoon, SK surrounded by family and friends. Bert was born on the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation on January 29, 1925 to August and Rose (nee: Moreau Lafond. He attended the St. Michaels Residential School at Duck Lake. At the age of 17, he went to the Dundurn Army Camp and at age 18, Bert joined the Canadian army. He was assigned to the new Westminster Regiment where they entered into the Italian Theatre of War and later to North West Europe (Holland). In 1945, he returned to Muskeg Lake and built a home. He and eight other men from Muskeg started a hockey team the Aldina Pro Lites. The men traveled around to surrounding communities playing hockey, establishing friendships and rivalries. He also took time to travel and work in western Canada. In 1952, he joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) and was deployed to Korea with the United Nations Peacekeeping Corps. He returned from Korea as a Corporal and again returned home to Muskeg Lake. He married Alpha Venne and raised six children. Over the years, he was a farmer, carpenter and councillor for the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation. Bert was employed for many years in the constuction and repair of grain elevators, with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and UGG. He enjoyed visiting his family and friends from the communities surrounding Muskeg Lake in one of his many classic rez cars. Bert was known for many things, including his leisurely driving pace, his infectious smile, his mischievious chuckle and his love for dogs. He was tender and loving Mushoom to all his grandkids and could be seen taking them for rides on his many visits, feeding them sweets and protecting them from any discipline. Due to ill health, Bert moved into the Wheatland Lodge in Leask, SK in 1999. He was a favourite to the staff and other residents. Left to celebrate his life are his children: Carol (Wallace Tawpisim), Robert (Marlene), Allan, George E. (Mary Ellen) and Dean Mich (Yvette). His grandchildren: Bonnie Leask, Bev Lafond, William Bill Leask, Kaila Lafond, Tara and Leah Arcand, Dustin, Jodi and Albert Stoney, Al Lafond Jr., Alphonsine Rose, Isobel and Portia Lafond. His brothers and sisters: David Lafond, Georgina Venne, Augustine Arcand, Alex (Irene) Laliberte, Stan Lafond, Bertha (Bob) Desnomie, Roderick Lafond, Bridget (Chuck) Stevenson, Olive (Don) Publicover, Harry (Germaine) Lafond and Lionel Lafond. His daughters, Judith Lynn and Mary Gail, his wife Alpha Lafond, his parents, August and Rose, his brother, Theodore and his granddaughter, Brenda leask, predeceased him. A Wake Service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Muskeg Lake Cree nation in the Muskeg Lake Gymnasium. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Muskeg lake Cree Nation in the Muskeg lake Gymnasium. Donations can be made to the Leask Legion. On September 28, 2003, Mike passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer in Victoria, British Columbia. Beloved husband of Mary (Nolan) and dearest father of John Danylkiw and his wife, Brenda Bradley of Victoria, Anne-Maire and her husband Brian Wilson, and Brian Danylkiw, all of Toronto. Adored grandfather of Victoria, Michelle, Lauren and Katherine Wilson, Caitlin Danylkiw and Esme Coyle-Danylkiw. He met life's challenges with determination, humour and deep faith and was an inspiration to all who met him. Drouin, Pauline (née Groulx) 1939-2003 It is with the greatest of sorrow that we announce the passing away of Pauline Drouin, 64 years, of Timmins, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Pauline passed away in the early morning of Oct 17th, 2003 in her daughters home in Chelmsford, with her husband, brothers, sisters, children and grand children at her side. Pauline was born in Rouyn, moved to Timmins and married Marcel Drouin. Pauline retired from the Golden Manor after working there for nearly 20 years. She will be remembered for her huge Sunday Meals, where the entire family and friends would gather Pauline had a flare for elegant clothing and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren so she could spoil them. She now hugs her saviour Jesus Christ, and dances with angels in eternal happiness. Predeceased by her beloved parents Wilfrid and Delia Groulx and by her sister Marcelle Drouin. Pauline's memory lives on with her husband Marcel Drouin and her large caring family her brothers and sisters Jeaninne Drouin (husband- Léo-predeceased) of Timmins, Denise Couture (husband André) of B.C., John Groulx (wife Beatrice) of Timmins, Fern Groulx (wife Annette) of Schumacher, Murielle Cockerline (husband Paul) of Northern Ontario, Gisèle Groulx of B.C. and Fred Groulx (wife Lise) of Timmins. Valerie M. O'Hara 1948 - 2003 Valerie M. O'Hara, 54, of Riverview, NB, passed away at the Moncton Hospital, Sunday, October 19, 2003 following a courageous battle with cancer. Bruce 1915-2003 MIRAMICHI, NB - Mr. George Miller Bruce, husband of Barbara Bruce, of the Veterans' Wing, of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, and formerly of Howard St., passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Friday evening, October 17, 2003, at the age of 88. John was a retired Public Servant with the Federal Government and was affiliated with St. Dunstan's Catholic Church. He was a resident of Fredericton all of his life with the exception of Military Service during the Second World War where his postings comprised of service in Canada and the United Kingdom. He is survived by one sister, Marguerite Pelkola of Ottawa, ON; three nephews, David (Kathy) of Aurora, ON, Douglas and John of Ottawa; one niece, Amanda of Glouchester, ON; two great nephews, Michael and Matthew of Aurora, ON; very good friends, Sharon and Robert Shanks and their family Jonathan and Jeffrey of Ottawa; several cousins and neighbors. Predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Mildred and Kathleen Wade and one bother, Arthur Wade. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 21st, from 2-4 and 79 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 will hold a tribute service at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 12:00 noon. Monsignor Brian Sheehan as celebrant. Interment will be in the Hermitage Cemetery. HUNTER, Evangeline Jessie (nee Cousineau) April 4, 1924-October 17, 2003 Eva passed away peacefully after a brief illness. She has gone home to be safe in the arms of Jesus. Eva was the 9th and last child of Charles (Pa) and Jessie (Ma) Cousineau. She was predeceased by her many brothers and sisters: Russell, Beaulah, Leonard, Harry, Wilfred, Albert, Laura, and Allen. She is survived by her husband and partner of 53 years, Richard (Dick) Hunter, her three daughters, and nine grandchildren. Left behind to grieve are Helen (Rob) Mitchell of Calgary and their children, Andrew (Marissa), Patrick and Courtenay; Dixie (Keith) Rawlinson of Calgary and their children Sarah, Mattie, Tanya, Devin, Justin and Craig; and Jeanne Hunter (Bruce Madore) of Innisfail, and a very special little dog named Tee'so. Eva was born on the family farm North of Coronation, Alberta. She attended the Sugarbowl one room school house, then High School in Castor, then Coronation. She graduated from the Alberta College in Secretarial Arts. Eva and Dick married on October 23rd, 1950. They raised three daughters, living first in Coronation, then Stettler, Red Deer, and finally Calgary. Eva returned to work, and spent many enjoyable years as the Lease and Grants Clerk at the City of Calgary. Eva loved life. She loved to dance, garden and travel. She loved people. She was kind and generous, and befriended many young women who considered her home their home. When Eva and Dick retired, they moved to Innisfail, where Eva's garden was her pride and joy. Eva's favorite song was Frank Sinatra's "My Way", and it can certainly be said that it was her motto for life. A service will be held for Eva in Innisfail at St. Mark's Anglican Church at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22nd, the Venerable Reverend Peter Millen presiding. Grave side service will be held at the Coronation Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 25th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
