Joyce died quietly and peacefully with friends at her bedside at New Orchard Lodge on Sunday, May 11, 2003, her 87th birthday. She was the much-loved daughter of the late Harry and Florence ("Loll") Slater and dear sister of the late Eileen. She will be fondly remembered and missed by family and friends in England and Canada and in particular by Christine Hunter and Trish Flindall of Ottawa. Many thanks to the staff at New Orchard Lodge for the devoted care they gave to Joyce over the past five years. Joyce was born and educated in London, England. She qualified and worked as a civil servant until the outbreak of the Second World War when she joined the WRNS, serving in communications. She resumed her civil service career after the war and in 1953 emigrated to Canada where she worked for the government, including postings to Washington, D.C. and Cheltenham, England, until her retirement. The funeral service will be at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa (the West End Chapel) on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00 p.m. before the service. August 3, 1943 - May 12, 2003 Died peacefully on Monday morning after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. He touched everyone who knew him and will be missed very much. IRIS PERRON (nee HUNTER) Peacefully, on Friday, May 9, 2003, Mom passed away with her family at her side at the Villa Youville in Ste. Anne, MB. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Eugene in January, 1999. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, Charlotte (Marcel) Roy, James (Vi), Robert, Sylvia Friesen, Diane, Patricia Prairie, David (Joanne) and Raymond (Jennifer), and by her 12 grandchildren. Mom was born on June 18, 1914 in Winnipeg, MB. She married Eugene on February 4, 1942 and they moved near the town of Ste. Anne where they enjoyed a life of farming and raising a family. In her spare time, Mom enjoyed reading, needlework, and gardening. She touched the hearts of many people through her kindness, patience and gentleness. She will be sadly missed but always in our thoughts. The family extends special thanks to Dr. deMoissac, Sisters Rioux and Forest, and to the staff at the Villa Youville for the exceptional care Mom received. ANDRE C. CARRIERE January 3, 1947-May 9, 2003 A loving father, husband, friend and mentor to many, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2003. Andre was born along the banks of the Red River near St. Adolphe, MB. Strong family bonds were created as the family worked side by side on their market garden. These times were among his fondest memories, and helped shape his strong work ethic. In 1969, he joined the Rural Municipality of Cartier where he served as Chief Administrative Officer for over 33 years. He was truly passionate about his work and never lost sight that his position was to serve the rate payers to the best of his ability. In addition, through the years he also served on many committees and community organizations. Despite his physical challenges, Andre showed a great passion for life which served as an inspiration for all who knew him. His family and friends will always carry fond memories of Andre's wild tales, and silly songs in their hearts. Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Rose-Anna Carriere, Andre leaves many to carry on the torch and to miss him every day. His son Todd (Tracy); daughter Lisa; their mother, and best friend Joy Carriere; his "amour not" Vivian Smith; stepchildren, Rielle Smith (John Finkbeiner), Francois Smith. Also left to mourn the loss of their beloved brother are, Ellen (Rene) Gratton, Erneste (Gloria) Carriere, Eveline (Armand) Levesque, Hugette (Marc) Phaneuf; and many nephews and nieces. STEVENSON, Bruce and Marci Bruce (Rooster) Stevenson, of Elmwood, passed away at University Hospital, London on Wednesday, May 07, 2003 in his 67th year. Survived by his wife Marci (nee Varieur) who passed away at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre, Owen Sound on Friday May 09, 2003, in her 60th year. Survived by sons Craig and wife Susan, Donald all of Cambridge, daughter Niki Norlock-Stevenson and friend Mark Laver of Renfrew, son-in-law Paul Leach of Renfrew, honorary daughter Tammy McCracken of Chesley, grandchildren Madison Leach, Brenndan, Erik and Shane, mother-in-law Aggie Norlock of Round Lake. Bruce is also survived by a brother Marty and wife Cheryl Stevenson of Toronto, sister Elizabeth and husband Ed Lancaster of Pickering, close friends Sharon and Don MaGeehan of Barrie. HAROLD GEORGE ARCHIE LAURENT Suddenly on May 10, 2003 at the Beausejour Hospital, Harold aged 68 passed away after a brief illness with pneumonia, his loving wife by his side. Harold was born September 21, 1934, at Alida, SK youngest of five, born to Art and Grace Laurent. Harold was predeceased by his mom in 1974, his dad in 1987, brother John in 1984 and sister Lil in 1990. Harold is survived by his wife Mary, son Dale and wife Trish and Sierra and Mason, son Kurt and wife Michele and Isaac, brother Clarence in Frobisher, SK, and sister Bertie in Calgary. Harold and Mary married in Winnipeg, June 15, 1957 and lived an adventurous life. They then moved to Red Lake, ON, in 1958 where Dale was born but the cold winters sent Harold back to Winnipeg but after experiencing four cold winters in Winnipeg, Harold decided to move to a much warmer and sunny place like Los Angeles, CA. There Kurt was born, but after experiencing a few years of smog Harold decided to venture on to Pontiac, MI for two reasons, closer to home and Canada. Spending 10 years in Michigan Harold decided to venture on to Beausejour so he could be closer to his family. Here he was kept busy in his cabinet shop and building new homes but then in 1980 ventured to Calgary for five years then returned to Beausejour and in 1994 ventured on to Vancouver where he worked with his two sons and in July 1998 he returned to Beausejour but he was stricken with a major stroke. With help from wonderful home care workers his wife was able to enjoy looking after him at home up until this time. Harold had a gentle nature and a good sense of humour he did not have an enemy in this world. Harold loved to hunt moose in Red Lake and deer hunt back home in Saskatchewan. Every fall from Michigan he would drive to his favourite hunting places. Harold loved to garden and cook great meals even Chinese food. The family would like to thank Dr. VanRanisburg and the nursing staff at Beausejour Hospital and the help from home care workers. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Ralph Catholic Church, in Cantal, SK with interment to follow in the parish cemetery. C.D. Gerald (Jerry) Norbert Loosemore. The family announces with sorrow his passing on May 1, 2003 in his 64th year at his home in Little Current, Manitoulin Island. He was born in Killarney to the late Norbert and Ruby (Patterson) Loosemore and attended St. John de Brebeuf School and Little Current High School prior to joining the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in 1959. After a 25-year career, he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces Communications Command with the rank of Master Warrant Officer and subsequently joined the Communications Security Establishment for an additional thirteen years during which he was instrumental in the modernization of the NORAD communication system. Jerry was made Scouter in 1978; a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #177; and he had an extensive repertoire of Newfoundland folk music. He returned to the Manitoulin Island to pursue his interest in genealogy. He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Peck, his son Christopher (Gayelene), and daughter Melissa (Donnie) Clark. He will be dearly missed by his sister Patricia and brothers Peter (Vivian), Harold (Laurine), Michael (Ann), and James (Bernice). He will be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Erma Peck, sisters-in-law Phyllis Marshall, Beverly (Everett) Morphet, and brothers-in-law Iliff (Jane) Peck and Warren (Gail) Peck. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Jerry will be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity, his storytelling, and his sense of humour. A memorial service celebrating his life will be officiated by Mr. D.J. Larouche, at the graveside at the the St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery, North Chanel Drive, Little Current, on Saturday, May 17th, 2003 at 3 p.m., with Interment.

Mr. Rainville is predeceased by his parents Ernest and Rosalie as well as his brothers, Arthur, William, Roméo, Louis, Marcel, Roland and René, and one sister Gisèle. An avid fisherman and musician, Mr. Rainville loved to sing and play his guitar. Family and friends are welcomed Tuesday, May, 13th, 2003, at the St. Laurent Parish in Ramore, ON, from 2:00 pm-9:00pm. OLSON Mrs. Christine "Evelyn" (nee Demaine) late of Prince Albert, SK passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Pine View Lodge on Friday, May 9th, 2003 at the age of 95 years. Mom was a wonderful lady. She had a great sense of humor and a talent for music, especially the old pump organ. Evelyn is survived by her children Lloyd of Saskatoon, SK; Doreen (Tom) of Prince Albert, SK; Maxine of Saskatoon, SK; daughter-in-law, Marj Olson of Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law, Blanche Olson of Nanaimo, BC; Nettie Demaine of Bath, ON; her seven grandchildren, Bert Olson, Brian Olson, Brenda (Warren) Andrews, Greg Olson, Tom (Sheri) McKenna, Rick (Carla) McKenna and Karen (Grant) Tait; eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Edna Lacroix.
