ARTHUR JOSEPH LAVIGNE Suddenly, but peacefully on May 3, 2003, we announce the passing of Arthur Joseph Lavigne at the age of 67 years, of Brandon, MB. He was predeceased by his parents, Alphonsine and Odilon; and by one brother Paul. JAMES BOSMA James Bosma, 88, of Emo, Ont., passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003 at the Emo Hospital in Emo surrounded by his family. James was born Feb. 8, 1915 in Oostermeer Friesland, The Netherlands, where he took up farming as his occupation. He was married in Holland in 1940 to Irene and together with two young children, they immigrated to Canada in September, 1948 and settled in Oberon, Man. and then to Transcona. In 1952, the family moved to Burriss, Ont., where James bought a farm. He operated his farm until 1982, when he retired. He served on the board for the Clover Valley Co-op, and also served on the Ontario Milk Marketing Board as a delegate for the Rainy River District. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Emo and also served as a deacon in the church, and was the first elected deacon in 1953 when the church was organized. In 1986, he moved to Emo, where he had lived since. He loved gardening, growing daffodils and tulips, horses, birds, as well as carving wood, and was most famous for his little boots. He also enjoyed travelling south, which is where he developed his carving skills. He was a good carpenter who built his own home and barn, and also built spinning wheels for his grandchildren. He developed his own bee hives to pollinate his fruit trees, and he loved a good challenge and was always there to lend a hand to those in need. Most important in his life was his love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was united in marriage May 30, 1940 to the former Irene Dykman, who survives along with their five children, Audrey (Arie) Borger of Emo, Ont., Kathi (Paul) Michmerhuizen of Zeeland, Mich., Margaret (Dan) Ozerkevich of Thunder Bay, Ont., Bob (Jan) Bosma of Fort Frances, Ont., and John (Debbie) Bosma of Emo, Ont. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Bosma of Emo, Ont.; one sister, Trudy (John) Vanderkuip of St. Catharines, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Klaas and Sjoukje Bosma; three brothers, Libbe, Matthew, and Robert; two sisters, Trienty and Betty; and granddaughter, Jennifer Carlson. Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo. Pastor Andrew Hall officiated, with interment in Emo Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Ploegman, John Esselink, Charlie Byma, Peter Van Heyst, Bill Sieders, and Leo Boersma. WILLIAM IRVIN MOSE William Irvin Mose, of 851 Colonization Rd., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at home with family by his side. He was born July 7, 1913 in Emo, Ont. to the late Edward and Susan Mose. Irvin is survived by his wife, Amanda; seven daughters and one son, Inez (Alan) Anderson of Devlin, Ont., Margaret (Fred) Westover of Rainy River, Ont., Susan (Norman) Boyd of Boissevain, Man., Marian (George) Parker of Green Bay, Wis., Jean (Andy) Lynch of Vancouver, B.C., Kathleen (Sid) Johnson of Brandon, Man., Arlene (Gerry) Readman of Wausaki, Wis., and Eldon (Cheryl) of Devlin, Ont.; 33 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and one sister, Percy, Ernest, Lew, Clarence, Harry, and Dora; and grandson, Troy Readman. Elna Kristina Peterson Elna Kristina Peterson, 89, of 1301 Elizabeth Ave. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence Wednesday, May 7, 2003. She was born Feb. 15, 1914 in Bergland, Ont. Elna had lived all her life in Rainy River District, where she had worked as a cook. She also was an amateur painter, enjoyed baking, and music. But her most important hobbies were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elna is survived by her two sons, Hilding (Jane) Peterson of Fort Frances, Ont., and Roy (Shelby) Peterson of Emo, Ont. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kevin, Kerry, and Curtis; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lottie Whitefield of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was united in marriage Dec. 21, 1933 to Elof Peterson, who predeceased her on May 20, 1978. She also was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Kristina Edberg; and two brothers, Henning and Arvid. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Capts. Eric and Sylvia Alcock of the Salvation Army officiating. Friends visited prior to the funeral service at Green Funeral Home. Interment took place Monday, May 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. Pallbearers were Cliff Foster, Brian Whitefield, Terry Whitefield, Bradley Nixon, Stanley Peterson, and Gerald Wood. Honourary pallbearers were Edla Orwick, Betty Sivonen, Shirley Brown, and Velma Blom.

FRASER, Audrey Louise (Newman) In loving memory of Audrey Louise (Newman) Fraser passed away Monday, May 5th, 2003 at Extendicare Falconbridge in her 91st year. A proud life-long resident of Sudbury, Audrey was born to Charles and Lucy-Mae Newman (nee King), attended the Sudbury Mining & Technical School and worked at the Bank of Toronto. She married Allan D. W. Fraser (predeceased) in 1942 and is survived by her two sons, Donald and wife Saku of Brampton and Gordon and his wife Sandy of Sudbury. She is also survived by her one granddaughter, Ashley, of whom she was most proud. A member of the Church of the Epiphany, Audrey was active with the A.C.W., did volunteer work for the Red Cross and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and canvassed her neighbourhood for many worthwhile charities. A dedicated homemaker, she was famous for her baking and warm hospitality and proud of her large circle of good friends. With her husband Allan and the boys, Audrey enjoyed her summers at their camp on Ramsey Lake and in retirement at their cottage at Lake Breton in Quebec and winter vacations in Florida. On Audrey's behalf, the family wish to thank the staff at Extendicare Falconbridge for their compassionate and professional care and her dear friend Dorothy Larsen for her many visits. DOLE, Thomas Clinton In loving memory of Thomas Clinton Dole, 62 years of Hanmer who passed away Monday morning, May 5th, 2003 at the SRH - St. Joseph's Health Center. He was born in Pembroke and married Joan (Slattery) in 1963 in Timmins. Tom moved to the Sudbury area in 1974. He was a miner at INCO and Falconbridge. A proud Canadian he had served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 8 years taking his discharge in 1968. A former member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Tom was a strong supporter of the NDP. In younger days he was a keen fisherman. He was an excellent cook who had a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Beloved husband of Joan (Slattery) Dole of Hanmer. Loving father of Colleen Belaire, Barbara Henderson (husband Ken) and Cindy Dole (friend Erik Thorsteinson) all of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Lacey Belaire, Kyle and Ryan Henderson. Dear son of Andy and Annie (McFarlane) Dole predeceased. DIANE REID (NEE CONN) Retired school teacher from Thornton, Grumble Hill and Baxter Central Public Schools. Diane, in her 65th year, peacefully passed away at home on May 6th 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 22, 1938 in Creemore, Ontario, the daughter of Lucius and Vera Conn, both of whom predeceased her as did her sister June Smith of Hockley Valley. She is survived by her husband Charlie of Thornton and by her aunt Betty Doherty of Collingwood. She will be greatly missed by a wide circle of lifelong friends and family. Her love and devotion will always be remembered by her goddaughters Kelly Greensides and Kathy Carter. After 36 years of teaching, 32 of which were spent as a Kindergarten teacher, Diane retired. Since her retirement she had enjoyed traveling, volunteering at the Thornton Library, curling, gardening, playing cards and her back yard pool. Her infectious laugh, warm smile, and gentle heart will be missed by all. Visitation for remembrance will be at the Paul F. Meade, Mary MONICA "MOLLY" Commander in the Order of St. John Peacefully at Grove Park Home on May 5, 2003 in her 80th year. Loving wife of the late William Meade. Molly's efforts in support of St. John Ambulance were impressive and tireless. Her commitment and devotion to the community were outstanding. PERUNIAK, William S. Professor Emeritus, Queen's University, Founding Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education Peacefully at home on Sunday, May 4th, 2003. Loving husband and soulmate of Wendy Stewart. Devoted and cherished father of Jennifer and K atie, and his children from his first marriage to Shirley, Geoff (Merilyn) and Jain. Proud grandfather of Ryan, Kyle, Blair and Lindsay, loyal brother of Lovern and uncle to David, Mary, Denise and Frances. Predeceased by infant son Andrew, mother An na Zurba, and father Steven Haschyn and stepfather William Peruniak of Thunder Bay. Bill was born in Port Arthur, a child of the frontier, and was very proud of his pioneer heritage. He often said that he was never the right age- he entered Queen's U niversity at the age of 15 and graduated at 19 with his teaching degree! Bill initially taught in Kenora and then at KCVI, where he coached the Boy's Curling Team to win the national high school championship in 1957. By the age of 30 he was principal of Atikokan High School. There he established the Outers Program in 1965, a program that became a catalyst for incorporating outdoor education into the regular curriculum of public schools across the country. In 1967 he returned to Kingston as found ing Associate Dean to the Faculty of Education. This same year he proudly represented Ontario as team captain in the Centennial Voyageur Canoe pageant, paddling from Rocky Mountain House to Montreal in an exhilarating 104-day marathon. Bill's passion for canoeing the Canadian landscape was ignited by this experience and a 23 year commitment to river seminars was underway. Bill's seminars used the voyageur canoe to promote outstanding teamwork and community building, and these adventures touched the lives, opened the hearts and lifted the souls of all who paddled with Bill and shared his vision. Bill's zest for extraordinary adventure was also experienced by many through his numerous treks in the Himalayas. Bill was a very unique and powerfu l force of nature. M. ANDRÉ THOMAS 1938-2003 VAL-D'OR Est décédé le 22 avril 2003 au Centre Hospitalier de Val-d'Or, à l'âge de 64 ans, M. André Thomas, domicilié à Val Senneville, fils de feu Arthur Thomas et de feu Jeanne Carrière. M. GOYETTE, Michel - À l'Hôpital Sacré-Coeur, le 29 avril 2003, à l'âge de 44 ans, est parti tout doucement Michel Goyette. Dong Hai Xiong, 5-20 Dallyn, Kapuskasing, died at Sensenbrenner Hospital on May 5, 2003. He was 82 years-old. Mr. Xiong was born in China on Nov. 10, 1920 . He worked as a factory labourer. He was predeceased by daughter Fu Sou Ng. He is survived by wife Ru Zhong Xiong; sons Zhen Bo Xiong of Toronto, Zhen Chou Xiong of China and Zhen Wen Xiong of Kap; daughter Hui Chen Fong of Toronto, 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. The funeral service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Scarborough. Mr. Xiong will be interred at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Scarborough.

1914-2003 A Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, le 4 mai 2003, à l'âge de 78 ans et huit mois, est décédé le Père Georges Perreault, dominicain. Originaire de Joliette, il était le fils de feu Adélard Perreault et de feu Clara Lepage. Après ses études classiques au Séminaire de Joliette, il est entré chez les Dominicains en 1944 et a été ordonné prêtre le 8 octobre 1950. De 1954 à 1967, le Père Perreault a enseigné la philosophie à l'Université pontificale de l'Angelicum à Rome. Durant cette période, il a, entre autres, occupé la fonction de doyen de la faculté de philosophie. Au Concile Vatican II il a été expert invité. De 1957 à 1972, il a été consulteur auprès de la Congrégation romaine des Religieux. À son retour au Canada, en 1967, il a été, jusqu'en 1974, prieur provincial de la Province Saint-Dominique du Canada. Après avoir complété des études supplémentaires en psychologie, il devient animateur et accompagnateur à «La Montagne de l'Horeb», où il a rendu de très grands services jusqu'à son décès. Le Père Perreault laisse dans le deuil, outre sa famille religieuse, sa soeur Gaby (feu Laurent Lalonde), et ses frères : feu Paul (feu Jeanne Fafard), feu Julien (Pauline Poirier), feu Jacques (Fernande Boucher) et Marcel (Marthe Saint-Arnaud). Une liturgie de la parole sera célébrée jeudi, le 8 mai, à 10 heures, à la Montagne de l'Horeb, au 217 Chemin Tour-du-Lac à Saint-Agathe-des-Monts. Le P. Georges Perreault sera ensuite exposé chez les Dominicains de Saint-Albert, 2715 chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine, Montréal, à partir de 15 heures. Il y aura une veillée de prières à 19 h 30. La messe des funérailles sera célébrée au même endroit, le vendredi 9 mai, à 10 heures. L'inhumation aura lieu à Saint-Hyacinthe, au cimetière des Dominicains, 2200 rue Girouard, à 14 heures. .
