(nee Craig) Passed away peacefully at home in Sidney, B.C. at 7:30 a.m. Sunday June 24, 2001 after a long session with cancer. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, William; son, Craig; daughters, Jan (Brian Samuels), Shelley (David Scott); sister, Barbara Doyle; sister-in-law, Frances Franklin and also nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Joyce was born in Edmonton August 9, 1916. She graduated from the University of Alberta and the University of BC in Social Welfare and involved in Social Services in Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria and Ottawa where she was Director of the Volunteer Service Bureau. Bachelor of Arts Honours English Matthew was born December 13, 1974 in Edmonton, Alberta, died peacefully at home in the loving arms of his family on Sunday, June 24, 2001. Matthew will live on in the hearts and minds of his parents, Sam and Karen, his brother Andrew and his sister Katie. Matt will also be fondly remembered by his grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Matthew showed strength, courage and conviction as he fought a long and difficult battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. During the two-year struggle, Matt came to terms with his illness and also helped those who were close to him deal with their loss. Matt expressed his love of life through literature, good films, theatre, music, sports, and support of those who were oppressed. Thank you Matt for teaching us how to live. Thank you as well to all those who cared for Matthew and his family during his illness. Chairman of Shenkman Corporation until his death, he was a visionary in real estate development, a philanthropist, collector, world traveller and father. Born and raised in Ottawa he was educated at Lisgar Collegiate and McGill University. Following in his father's footsteps he began his career building downtown apartments and soon moved into major commercial, industrial and land development projects throughout the region, Canada, the United States and Europe. He is survived by his longtime loving companion Louise Poepplau and her family. He will be sadly missed by his children Dasha, William (Maureen) and granddaughter Rachel. NICKOLAS S. (NICK) KINGERSKI The family of Nickolas S. (Nick) Kingerski, 79, is saddened by his peaceful passing on Friday, June 22, 2001 in Fort Frances, Ontario. Nick was born on December 19, 1921 in Rainy River, Ontario to the late Joseph and Rozalia Kingerski. After serving in the 2nd World War, he returned to Fort Frances, where he met and married Mary Duchnicki on September 11, 1946. He began employment with the Town of Fort Frances shortly after starting as a fireman, then bookkeeper and treasurer. He became the Town Administrator in 1976. He was self taught having attained his accreditation with the Association of Municipalities of Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) through correspondence courses from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. He was an active member of AMCTO, the Rainy River District Housing Authority and also held positions on the Police Commission and Police Services Board for many years. He played clarinet in the military band in the 2nd World War as well as the Town Band for over 30 years. Nick has served on the parish council at St. Mary’s Church and was a choir member and lector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29. After 40 years of service with the Town of Fort Frances he retired in 1986. His retirement years were spent traveling, camping, fishing, woodworking and playing cards with family and friends. Nick had a great sense of humour and was very close to his grandchildren whom he dearly loved and who will miss him very much. Nick is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Barb and husband Don Koczkur of Thunder Bay, son Don Kingerski and wife Judy of Winnipeg, seven grandchildren - Sherry Watt (Doug), Stacey Donais (Grant), Shawn Langtry, Erin, Betsy, Chrissy and Nicholas Kingerski and three great grandchildren - Hunter Donais, Thomas and Kenton Watt. He is survived by one brother John (Margaret) of Sudbury and sister Stella Andrusco of Fort Frances. His brothers Adolph, Walter and sister Sophie predeceased him. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Father Eugene Whyte, O.M.I. officiated with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Frances. Visitation and prayers took place on Monday evening at St. Mary’s Church. Pallbearers were Nick Mutz, Buzzie Wickstrom, Ed Grynol, Mike Andrusco, Luke Schill and Tom Duchnicki. Honourary pallbearers were Ed Grabowski, Morris Krawchuk, Jacques Fafard, Claude DeBenedet, Nick Grynol, John Demianiw, Metro Badiuk, Nick Badiuk and Paul Wilcox. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Nugent and Father Eugene for their loving care and support. February 1, 1971 - June 2, 2001 Shawn Roy, a resident of Ottawa, passed away at Montreal, P.Q. at the age of 30 years. He was born in Sudbury, and for the last 12 years had been employed as a computer analyst, working for the Department of National Defence. Shawn had many interests and hobbies, including roller blading, bicycling, travelling and computers. Shawn was an extremely talented computer analyst, and took great pride in his abilities. He was a loving son and brother. Shawn was loved very much by his family and friends, and his presence will be sadly missed. Dearly loved son of Pius and Evelyn (Trudeau) Roy of M'Chigeeng; dear and loving brother of Linda Lewis (Billy) of Sault Ste.
