Al proudly served our country in the Canadian Armed forces from 1949-1984 and was a veteran of the Korean War. Left with loving memories are Lola, his best friend and wife; Brian "his buddy" and brother-in-law; his much loved sisters and brothers-in-law Lorna (Bill) Smith and Isobel (Bill) Johnson; sons Terry (Elaine) Brown and Lorne (Margaret) Brown. Passed away, peacefully, after a short illness, on Friday, June 15, 2001, at West End Villa, in his 73rd year. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Joyce (Malcolm Ellis), nieces Karin Mahoney, Lorna Brown, Madeleine Franey and nephew William Ellis, as well as many great-nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece. Although handicapped, Ken was a very active fundraiser for the Kidney Foundation, Alzheimer's Society and the West End Villa Family Support Group. RUBY STUART Ruby Stuart (nee Treftlin), 91, of Elizabeth Manor in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital on Tuesday, June 12, 2001. She was born in Bergland, Ont. to the late Brita (Bessie) and Christian Treftlin. Mrs. Stuart was raised in Edmonton, Alta. She moved to Fort Frances in 1948 and worked at Midway Grocers for several years and then at the front desk at the Fort Frances Times until her retirement in 1969. She loved her flowers and enjoyed gardening until her health failed her. In her later years, she also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading. Ruby is survived by her sons, Murray and wife, Jean, of Coleman, Alta., Alonzo (Lonnie) and wife, Joan, of Nakusp, B.C., and David (Dave) and wife, Sonja, of Wisconsin; and daughter, Mavis Huntley and Chester Jantzen of New Westminster, B.C. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, James Stuart; sisters, Goldie Silver and Ailie Stuart; an infant sister, Goldie Treftlin; and an infant brother, Emil Treftlin. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fort Frances, with Mr. Kenny Olson officiating. A memorial service also will be held in Sparwood, B.C. at a later date. In memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 920 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N4, or the Arthritis Society, 209 McIrvine Rd., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N3.

She will be sadly missed by her fifteen grandchildren and thirty-eight great grandchildren, as well as nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
