It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our father on February 16, 2001, with courage and dignity after a short battle with cancer at the age of seventy-one. Beloved husband of Helene. Cherished father of Beverly, David, Tony, Roy and Sandra. Loving Grandfather of Daniel, Cassandra, Lucas, and Jeremy. Also survived by Gregory, Celine, Katherine, and Peter Aldworth. John retired from McGill University in 1988 after twenty-eight years of service as an Administrator for the Department of Facilities Management. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital, where he was treated with such dignity and kindness. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel in St. John Fisher Church, 120 Summerhill, Pointe Claire. The family requests no flowers be sent. (nee Smith). Aged eighty-five. Died peacefully on February 16, 2001 at LaSalle General Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Richard Cogdale. Dear mother of Joyce, Jean, Graham and Robert. Born July 19, 1909 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Passed away February 5, 2001 in Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver after a short illness. Bob received his law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1934 and married Barbara Paterson in 1936. In 1939 they moved to Ottawa where he was the assistant secretary and eventually deputy secretary of the Foreign Exchange Control Board of the Bank of Canada. A move to Montreal came in 1952 when he became the assistant secretary, and eventually secretary and then vice-president of Canadian National Railways. Following his retirement in 1971 Bob and Barbara moved to North Vancouver where he enjoyed curling and golf until he was 89 years old. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara, his daughter Beverley (David) Gowe, North Vancouver, his son David (Gisele) Tarr, Montreal and his daughter Valerie (Norris) Wood, Montreal, as well as his seven grandchildren Robert Tarr, Bermuda, Deborah (Jason) Halmay, Lac Marois, Quebec, and their mother, Barbara Tarr, Toronto, Geoffrey (Adelin) Gowe, Vancouver, Christopher (Christine) Gowe, North Vancouver, Gregory Gowe, Vancouver, Heather Wood, Kelowna, Elizabeth Wood, Montreal and five great-grandchildren Sarah and Ryan Gowe, Daryn and Kennedy Gowe and Julia Halmay. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at St. Catherine's Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood, North Vancouver. Donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.
