Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Born in Gosforth, Cumbria, England, she moved with her family to North America in 1965, residing in born the United States and southern Ontario prior to settling in Ottawa in 1972. After a career in teaching in both England and the United States she joined the Federal Public Service in Ottawa where she worked for Agriculture Canada until her retirement in 1996. Daughter of the late John and Ann-Jane Tyson, she is survived by three sisters, all living in England; Gwen (the late John Ratcliffe), Bronwen (the late Dennis Dalton) and Dorothy (Ivor Nicholas), as well as her many nephews and nieces. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 47 years, Geoffrey. Sharing his grief are daughter, Susan (Justin Paletz); son, Simon (Kim); grandchildren, Erica and Andrew Paletz and Mackenzie and Shelby Gowan. (Retired Prensler Press, Arnprior) Peacefully in hospital at Arnprior on Tuesday morning, January 16, 2001. Agnes Blanche "Bud" Prensler of Arnprior in her 101st year. Beloved wife of the late Steve Prensler. Predeceased by her parents, Theophile Desormia and his wife Annie Johnston. Blanche is survived by a niece, Hazel Wentzell (Merle) of Birmingham, Alabama, as well as several cousins and many friends. Blanche was born in Arnprior on March 22, 1900. She spent her entire life in Arnprior. Along with her husband Steve, they operated Prensler Press as well as the License Bureau for many years. Upon retiring from the printing business, Bud went to work at Clancy's Drug Store, Arnprior and later spent several years as a volunteer at the Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital Opportunity Shop. Her commitment to her faith lead her to develop many lasting relationships within St. John Chrysostom Parish, the prayer group and the Catholic Women's League. Friends may call at the Pilon Family Funeral Home & Chapel, 50 John Street North, Arnprior on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and after 9:15 a.m. Thursday. It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce Rebecca Vassiliou Combatsiaris passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at her home in Montreal. Rebecca was born in the town of Velo of Corinth (Greece) on September 20, 1935. She immigrated to Canada with her sisters in the winter of 1961, met and married Petros Combatsiaris in the summer of 1962 and raised three sons with great faith in God. Rebecca cared deeply for the welfare of her family and friends and will be missed beyond description. She is survived by her beloved husband and her children, Terry, Rachel, Costa and Stelo; her brother Basil and her sisters Katina, Angeliki and Marina. On Sunday, January 14th, 2001 at Bayfield Manor, Kemptville, in her 85th year. Daphne was born in London, England on the 25th of July, 1916, and lived for a while in Hong Kong during her early twenties. In 1940 she married a young Flying Officer, Wesley Bert Hodgson (1916-1985) and continued her nomadic ways as an Air Force officer's wife. Various postings took her to Rivers, Manitoba; Claresholm, Alberta; Ottawa, Ontario; Fontainebleau, France; St. Hubert, Quebec and Battle Creek, Michigan before finally settling down in the Eastern Townships of Quebec where they enjoyed their early retirement. In 1980 they moved to a house on the Rideau Canal in Merrickville, Ontario. Her childhood love affair with horses continued with every move. There was not a time in her life when she was not the loving owner of one or more horses, despite the difficulty of moving every three years. Her equestrian experiences took her from herding cattle in Alberta to hunting wild boar in France. Even after the death of Wes she continued to travel, taking riding trips in Austria, Russia and Australia, where she tried her hand at riding camels and brahma bulls. She competed on trail rides and in the show jumping ring until well into her 70's when she was finally slowed down by a broken leg resulting from a fall while jumping. Although predeceased by her daughter Diane, she leaves behind Diane's children Patrick and Julie, her loving son Asher, his wife Margot and their two children Christopher and Kirsten. In accordance with Daphne's wishes, her body has generously been donated to science and as with everything in her life - she chooses to say farewell quietly. To mourn her passing, she leaves her stepdaughter, Yvonne Allen; stepson, John Allen and his wife, Sandra; step-grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Christopher; step-great-grandchildren, Brendan and Tyler; her devoted cousin, Axie (Ferguson) Elliott and her husband, Jim; Cara Leigh and Mark Siska; Rhonda Patterson and Peter and their families; and her devoted nephews, Phil and Richard Allen and their wives and families. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. John Stanley Allen; her parents, James Allan Ferguson and Jane (McCallum); brother, Allan and infant brother, Lloyd. Jean was born on September 23, 1912 in Lanark, Ontario. her parents were descendants of Scottish settlers who emigrated to Upper Canada from Paisley, Scotland in 1821. Jean grew up in Lanark, attended high school in Carleton Place and moved to Toronto in 1934, where she attended business school and night classes at the University of Toronto. She was a 35-year employee of Eaton's in Toronto and Hamilton. Jean spent many years researching her Ferguson and Burns Family history and in 1991, fulfilled a lifelong dream of a Ferguson Family reunion, attended by 163 people. Jean was a longtime member of St. Lukes Anglican Church in Hamilton and on moving to Ottawa, became a member of St. Barnabas A & M Church. Friends may pay respects at St. Barnabas Church, 70 James Street, Ottawa Thursday January 18th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Funeral Friday January 19, 2001 at St. Barnabas Anglican Church for Celebration of the Eucharist at 11 a.m. Cremation. Interment will follow at a later date in Ferguson Family plot in Drummond Centre Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or St. Barnabas A & M Church appreciated. CARDIN, Roch Au CSSS Nicolet-Yamaska, le 13 janvier 2001 est décédé, à l'âge de 89 ans et 5 mois, M. Roch Cartin, époux de Cécile Chapdelaine, demeurant à Saint-François-du-Lac. Il laisse dans le deuil, outre son épouse Cécile Chapdelaine, ses enfants : Denise (Léo-Paul Verville), Janine (Jean-Jacques Gauthier), Denis (Denise Hétu), Nicole (Rolland Hélie), Jackie (Robert Cloutier), Marie-Paule (André Lemoine), Yvonne (David Butler), Michel (Diane Forcier), Yvon (Gisèle Parent), Jean-Paul (Johanne Bagnato), Jacques (France Bergeron) et Lucien (Linda Cournoyer); ses 26 petits-enfants, ses 18 arrière-petits-enfants, ses frères, soeurs, beaux-frères et belles-soeurs, ainsi que de nombreux autres parents et amis. Les funérailles ont eu lieu le samedi 20 janvier 2001, à 15 heures, en l'église de Saint-François-du-Lac; et l'inhumation, au cimetière de Saint-François-du-Lac.
