John Douglas (Jack) Walker May 10, 1911 - January 15, 2001 Funeral arrangements by Nicholls Funeral Home Entered into rest at the Huronia District Hospital, Midland on Monday January 15, 2001 in his 90th year. John Walker of Midland, beloved husband of the late Vera Faint. Dear father of Elizabeth Walker of Toronto, William Walker and his wife Margaret of Ajax, and Linda Gardiner and her husband Dan of Midland. Loving grandfather of Brent, Rory, Jeremy and Tasha. Predeceased by his brother Francis, and sisters Irene Ionson and Jean Walker. John worked in the Toronto School system from 1935 to 1972 as a teacher and coach at Central Tech, principal of Brockton High School, and vice-principal and principal of Northern Secondary. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club in Toronto and Midland. He served as Lt. Governor for the Eastern Canada and Caribbean District of Kiwanis International. Resting at the Nicholls Funeral Home, 330 Midland Avenue, Midland on Wednesday January 17th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 20 Robert Street East, Penetanguishene on Thursday January 18th at 2 p.m. with visitation at the church one hour prior to service. Born January 27, 1913 died peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2001 at Somerset House in Victoria, B.C. He was 87 years of age. Just six weeks after he was predeceased by his beloved wife Lilian, 2001 would have been their 68th anniversary. During WWII Hugh served as a colonel in the Black Watch Regiment of Canada and was attached to Montgomery's eighth army. He was a formidable soldier and leader, surviving some of the worst battles in the liberation of Holland. In his later years he was invited along with his wife to be honored by Queen Julianna of the Netherlands. Post war Hugh had a distinguished Civil Service career with the Department of Veterans Affairs. He finished that career in Victoria as Director of Human Resources and remained in Victoria for his retirement. Hugh was the epitome of "an Officer and a Gentleman" and exhibited those qualities in every facet of his life. He was fiercely loyal, with the highest degree of integrity, and a wry sense of humor. At the worst of times, he could find humor and lift your spirit with one of his humorous stories. Individuals of his character, such as Hugh, are hard to find and he will be dearly missed by all, especially his extended family. To mourn her passing, she leaves her stepdaughter, Yvonne Allen; stepson, John Allen and his wife, Sandra; step-grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Christopher; step-great-grandchildren, Brendan and Tyler; her devoted cousin, Axie (Ferguson) Elliott and her husband, Jim; Cara Leigh and Mark Siska; Rhonda Patterson and Peter and their families; and her devoted nephews, Phil and Richard Allen and their wives and families. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. John Stanley Allen; her parents, James Allan Ferguson and Jane (McCallum); brother, Allan and infant brother, Lloyd. Jean was born on September 23, 1912 in Lanark, Ontario. her parents were descendants of Scottish settlers who emigrated to Upper Canada from Paisley, Scotland in 1821. Jean grew up in Lanark, attended high school in Carleton Place and moved to Toronto in 1934, where she attended business school and night classes at the University of Toronto. She was a 35-year employee of Eaton's in Toronto and Hamilton. Jean spent many years researching her Ferguson and Burns Family history and in 1991, fulfilled a lifelong dream of a Ferguson Family reunion, attended by 163 people. Jean was a longtime member of St. Lukes Anglican Church in Hamilton and on moving to Ottawa, became a member of St. Barnabas A & M Church. Friends may pay respects at St. Barnabas Church, 70 James Street, Ottawa Thursday January 18th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Funeral Friday January 19, 2001 at St. Barnabas Anglican Church for Celebration of the Eucharist at 11 a.m. Cremation. With dignity, at St. Joseph's Health Care Center in London, Ontario after a brief illness on Friday, January 12, 2001, Charles W. (Chick) Wagner in his eighty-first year. Chick was the beloved husband of Leslie Forsyth (nee Hall of Quebec) for fifty-six years, devoted father of Brenda and Graham, loving grandfather of Lyle and Grace and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Chick grew up in Toronto. A veteran of WW II. He and Les met on a posting to Ancien Lorette, Quebec in 1941. After the war he joined the headquarters of Canadian Railways in Montreal and served his entire career as a track engineer. He lived out his retirement dream for 20 years, spending summers at a cottage he and Les built on Sparrow Lake in Muskoka and winters in Arizona. He will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Rideout Street South, London, Ontario on Monday, January 15 at 1 p.m. with Mrs. Heather Bedford of First Andrew's United Church officiating.
