HAGEMOEN Ian RogerIt is with tremendous sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to all, Ian Roger Hagemoen, born in Wells, B.C. on December 4, 1940. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Pat, his daughter Louise (Don Davidson), his son David (Lisa Constable) and his four adored granddaughters, Krista, Kayleigh, Megan and Jenna. The life of every party, Ian was a big man with a booming voice and a big heart who lived life "his way". A B.C. Lions Alumni, Ian played in the CFL in the 60's. He later coached minor football in Surrey where he made his home. He was a past president of the Surrey Athletic Association and dabbled in local politics. Ian was a great outdoorsman and was passionate about our beautiful province. He loved hunting and fishing with his buddies. Ian was a proud entrepreneur, spending many years in mining exploration and promotion. In later years he lived in Chilliwack, working in land development, while also trying his hand at farming. For the past six years Ian was semi-retired in Parksville. Ian will be deeply missed by all that knew him. A celebration of Ian's life will be held at Northview Golf and Country Club at 6857 168 St, Surrey on Monday, October 26 at 1:30 PM. All of Ian's friends and family are welcome. MARKEL Joyce Dawna (nee Griffin) Born April 13, 1940 in Nelson, B.C. passed away peacefully October 14, 2009 in Port Moody, B.C. after a short battle with cancer. Joyce will be missed by husband Don Markel; daughter Lee-Ann Holbrook (Mike Todd); sons Ryan and Tyler Markel; son-in-law Greg Holbrook, grandchildren Brayden and Kara Holbrook. Joyce leaves many friends and relatives. Joyce attended Burnaby North high school before completing her education at the VGH School of Nursing. Joyce left her occupation as an E.R. nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital to partner in business with Don in 1977. During the 30 years Don and Joyce ran BME Supply in Port Coquitlam, they also raised their family. Joyce's loves included crafting, shopping, bowling, travel, elaborate turkey dinners, and movies on Channel 45 (the horror channel). Most of all she loved her family. Joyce had a personality that lit up a room. She spent much of her life creating not just a family, but a home. Her positive attitude, love and strength will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at First Memorial Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C. OSTOPOVICH, Matthew Phillip It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Phillip Ostopovich (April 24, 1955 - Sept 28, 2009.) Matt fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Never complaining, he faced each of his many challenges with dignity and courage. Matt died peacefully in his home amongst his family. Matt is predeceased by both parents Charles and Muriel, and much loved brother Marty. Matt is survived by his forever partner and soul-mate, Birgit Mitchell, his step daughters Natasha and Shannon, by siblings Mary, Marvin, Marcy Mark, Michael and Mimi and nieces and nephews Jennifer, Marty Jr., Natasha Don, Adam and Michael. Matt often said "It can take my body, but it cant take my spirit". And it never did. We will miss you dearly Matt and you will remain in our hearts forever. A celebration of his life will be held at Cammidge House in Delta on Oct. 18. No flowers, please, Matt has always wanted to give back to the BC Cancer Agency and would much appreciate a donation so they may continue their very important work. Go with God, my Love. OMSON , ALAN October 18, 1920 - October 15, 2009 Alan Omson, born October 18, 1920, passed away October 15, 2009 in Calgary, AB, just three days shy of his 89th birthday. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Lucille and his three daughters, Joan Omson Hollenberg and her husband, Morley Hollenberg of Calgary, AB, Judi Omson and her husband Ron Dumoff of San Diego, CA and Sandi Omson and her husband Michael Cawley of Brampton, ON; son-in-law David Watson and his wife Cora Watson of Markham, ON; seven grandchildren, Elisa Hollenberg, Daniel Hollenberg and his wife Seema Hollenberg, Jesse Dumoff and his wife Roslyn Hughes, Kelsey Dumoff, Lauren Omson, Melisse Watson and Jonathan Watson; four great-grandchildren, Mira and Isaac Hollenberg, and Thomas and Samuel Dumoff; his sister Freda Gillman of Winnipeg, sister-in-law, Vera Omnitsky of Winnipeg, MB, and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lois Omson, his parents Louis and Sarah Omnitsky and his sister and brothers, Bella Stoller, Sam Omanson, Jack Omsen, and Bill Omnitsky. He also leaves behind his loving and devoted friend Anna Pahlavan who was with him until the very last minute. Al served in the Canadian Air Force in Vancouver during WWII as an airplane radioman. Returning to Winnipeg, Al was an active member of the Jewish community, particularly with the UJA, as well as being a successful businessman. He was a Big Brother and became very actively involved in the Children's Aid Society. He was an extremely ethical and moral man and believed strongly in philanthropy. Al was an avid fisherman, and loved boating and cottage life at Lake of the Woods. He had a life-long love affair with airplanes, building huge model airplanes and flying them well into his old age. He became a pilot himself in his forties. In his retirement in Palm Springs, CA, Al became an accomplished sculptor, enjoyed golf and travel, and was active in his community. He and Lucille moved to Calgary in 2002. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Al's dedicated caregivers, Cleafe Guardiana and Jennet Oraiz. The Funeral will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in Winnipeg with Interment following at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Shiva will be observed Sunday, 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Monday 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, Portage Avenue and Smith Street, Winnipeg. Beloved wife of the late Ernest Mansfield. Cherished mother to Les (Julie), Brian, Alfred (Angela), Rose (Jim). Loving Nana to Lisa (John), Kristy, Joanna (Dave), Jacqueline, Kyle, Bailey, Robert, Ashley, and Nathan. Great Nana to Tristan. Dearest friend to Nicki. Caring sister and aunt to family in Spain, England and Gibraltar. Josie was born in Cadiz, Spain, and later relocated to England with her soul mate Ernest. Being a Military Officer's wife, she accompanied her husband on many postings around the world with her four children, emigrating to Canada in 1979. Josie loved cooking, sewing, dancing, and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed helping others and volunteered for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital. She spent the last two years at Tranquility Place retirement home where she made many new friends. She will be truly missed. A private family service was held at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME on Friday October 16, 2009. Followed by interment at Farringdon Burial Ground. Passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 11, 2009 in Newport Coast, California after a courageous battle with cancer. A successful engineer, lawyer, businessman, real estate developer and farmer, Coop was a self-made man. He loved fishing, riding, fine wine and cooking for good company. He was larger than life and generous to a fault. TAYLOR Ellen Joyce (nee Rainey) October 30, 1933 - October 5, 2009 Joyce Taylor - affectionately known as Nana to her family - passed peacefully on October 5, 2009. Nana is loved and deeply missed by her husband Joe. They enjoyed 53 years together and have 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter. Her family loves and misses her; however our hope is in The Eternal. We believe we will see her again. Nana understood that to leave her troubled body meant to leave the temporal for the real. WALKER Archie March 27, 1924 - October 11, 2009 Passed away peacefully on October 11, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Archie will be remembered with love by his wife, Catherine of 57 years, their daughter Gail Watson (Dave), son Stuart (Nancy), grandchildren, Sheena, Scott, Melanie, Sara, Stefanie, great-grandchildren Maxwell, Mikaela, sister Mary Smith (Jim) along with many friends and family. Born in Glasgow, Scotland he served with the British Army as a Tank Driver in WWII. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and served the majority of his working years with the Vancouver School Board. Always willing to lend a hand and to help those less fortunate, Archie is remembered for his laughter, stories, wit, friendliness and kindness. His motto, "live and let live". Our sincere gratitude to each and everyone who walked caringly with Archie and our family during this difficult time. BUCKMAN, Clifford Holmes March 25, 1924 - October 12, 2009 Clifford died peacefully in Langley Memorial Hospital, British Columbia, on Monday, October 12, 2009 after a short illness. Loving Father to Leslie Haubrich (nee Buckman) and her husband Jan, and Christine Holmes Buckman. A proud and loving "Gramps" to Colin Haubrich and his wife Myra, Joanne Jackson (nee Haubrich) and her husband David, John Buckman-Healy and Benjamin Buckman-Healy and his wife Chloe. Great Grandfather "Monsieur Biff" to Michael Buckman Healy and Heidi Holmes Healy and to Justina Ying Haubrich. Clifford also leaves behind his brother Stanley Henderson Buckman and his wife, Helen (nee Midwinter). Cliff had a very interesting and varied life. He joined the Air Force during World War II, where he began his lifelong love of taking photographs. After being discharged from the Air Force, Clifford left his home in Perth, Ontario and started working for Newton Photographers, in Ottawa. Cliff's skill with a camera brought him many photographic awards which were published in the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Journal. After many years as a still photographer, Cliff became interested in motion picture work, especially sporting events. He loved the outdoors and was happiest with either a shotgun or fishing rod in his hand and one of his many dogs by his side. Cliff was married to Barbara (nee Midwinter), who passed away in 1991. He was then reunited in Langley, B.C., with high school friend, Dorothy Reierstad (nee Minister). When Dorothy passed away in 2006, Clifford decided to remain in B.C. where he had made his home for the last 17 years. Arrangements will be made for a private family service in Brockville, Ontario, which is what Clifford wanted. To all of you who knew Cliff, we ask that you raise a glass of your favourite beverage (his was Scotch - single malt), and think of the great times you had with him...He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. HEATHER Clista Elaine Passed away peacefully on October 13, 2009 at the age of 91. She is survived by her children, Marilynn, Steve, Doug, and Daniel and her grandchildren Monica and Steven. She was predeceased by her husband Guy Robert Heather, who died in 1996. She was born in Vulcan, Alberta in 1918 and had four siblings: Roy, Mae, Ila, and Margaret, all predeceased. She moved to Vancouver as a young woman. She met her future husband, Guy, here and became a long-time resident of Dunbar Heights. Later, they moved to Kitsilano and lived on Maple Street for many years. An avid bowler, she played in leagues for many years at the Varsity Ridge Bowl. She also enjoyed reading, going for walks, and having a mug-up at one of her favorite cafes. She worked for many years, most notably in the accounting department of Scotiabank. Upon retirement, they fulfilled their lifetime dream of visiting England. In the last months of her life, the Broadway Pentecostal Lodge was her home. We would like to thank the staff there for the constant care and kindness they showed her. We would also like to make a special mention of her niece, Luella Lind, who was devoted to Mom and has been of enormous help to the family over the years and especially during this difficult time. Mom was dearly loved by many people and will be greatly missed. There will be a Celebration of Life service on October 21st at 11 am at the Dunbar Heights United Church. DARIMONT Betty Merrilees December 3, 1918 - October 7, 2009 Betty passed away peacefully with family by her side after fighting health complications for a number of courageous months. She will be missed dearlyby her children: Paul, Suzanne, Taylore, Michelle; grandchildren: Chris, John, Jonathan, Jenny, Daaniele, Amber, Kelly; former husband George; cousin Barbara; niece Cynthia (and family). We will remember Betty for her feisty but dignified, graceful personality and sense of humour. Betty was a romantic at heart and loved ballroom dancing and men with dark hair and mustaches. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and looked forward to a good game of bridge. Betty had a flair for style and always dressed smartly with her trademark beret of either purple, black or grey. A wise, loving, generous and kind woman, she dedicated a large portion of her life to raising four children and instilled in them the values that are important in life. Betty was quoted as saying, "It is important to be kind to others _ you will be surprised at the results." Our thanks and gratitude to Betty's past neighbours and friends who were there to lend a hand over the years. A special thanks to Yaletown House, Betty's home for the past six years, where she was lovingly cared for by staff and volunteers - your support and friendship made such a difference in her life. BISSONNETTE, Roland 1915-2009 À St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, le 13 octobre 2009, à l'âge de 93 ans et 11 mois, est décédé Roland Bissonnette, époux de feu Ubaldine Patenaude. Il a été co-propriétaire de la Boulangerie Bissonnette Ltée à St-Jean de 1941 à 1972. Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Lise (Luc Marcoux), Alain (Solange Bouthillier), René (Diane Grégoire), Roger, Lyne (Mario Landry), Carole (Alain Bachand), ses onze petits-enfants, dix arrière-petits-enfants, ses frères Romuald, Conrad (Yvonne Alix), sa soeur Thérèse (Jacques Lalanne), sa belle-soeur Charlotte (feu Charles) ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. La famille recevra vos condoléances le lundi 19 octobre 2009 de 12h30 à 15h00, suivi d'une liturgie de la Parole qui sera célébrée chez: 530 4e RUE (secteur IBERVILLE) ST-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU 514-990-6020 L'inhumation suivra au cimetière d'Iberville. ARCHER, Florence Jean - Peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2009 at the F.J. Davey Home in her 81st year. Beloved wife of the late William. Cherished mother of Sharon Ianni-Lucio (late Gino), Debbie Smith (Roy), Susan Wilcox and William. Grandmother of Vincent Ianni-Lucio (Cille), Marie Moore (Kevin), Cindy Smith, Laura McCaig (Mike), Jessica Archer (Marchie), Nick and Vanessa Wilcox. Great grandmother of Brenna and Carter Ianni-Lucio, Hannah McCaig, Alysha and Sonya Archer. Sister of Alice Franklin (Clifton), George Povey, Vi Ann VanAcker (Gus). Sadly missed by her nieces and nephews. At Florence's request cremation has taken place. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the F.J. MANUEL, Quinn Alexander Gordon - Quinn passed away suddenly in Meaford on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the age of 24. Born in Brampton on October 25, 1984, Quinn will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by parents, Connie and Kevin Good of Proton Station, Bruce Manuel of Brampton, brothers Gavin Manuel of Proton Station and Kyle Good Owen Sound. Quinn was the loved grandson of Gord and Teryl Sewell of Meaford, and Irene Manuel of Hamilton, and great grandson of Milford Sewell and Jim Hackwood, both of Meaford. He was predeceased by his Great Grandma Viola Sewell, Great Grandma Helen Hackwood, and his Great Aunt Myrtle Sewell, and by his great grandparents Alex and Mildred Manuel. Also remembered by his uncle and aunt, Curt and Kim Sewell of Lindsay, and his cousins Meagan and Jesse Sewell, also of Lindsay. His smile and happy disposition will be missed not only by his family but also by his many friends and the staff at Stewart Homes in Peterborough, and the Community Living staff in Mississauga and in Meaford. Cremation has taken place and a memorial funeral service and celebration of Quinn's life, officiated by his Great Aunt Edith Ann Shantz, will be conducted at the Meaford United Church, on Sunday, October 25, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. Family will receive friends the hour prior to service and in the fellowship hall of the church following the service.
