RAYMOND BÉLANGER Décédé paisiblement le mercredi 14 octobre 2009 à l'Hôpital de Gatineau à l'âge de 71 ans, suite à une courte lutte contre le cancer. Il était le fils bien-aimé de feu Hermas Bélanger et de feu Corinne Lessard. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Claudette Rodier; son fils, Sylvain (Micheline Prézeau); ses petits-enfants qu'il aimait tant: Vincent et Alexandre. Il laisse également ses 2 soeurs: Carmen (feu Noël Beauchamps) et Lise; son frère: Charles, une belle-soeur, des neveux, nièces et amis. Il fut prédécédé par ses frères Georges(Jacqueline Gravelle) et André(Lise Waters) et sa soeur Georgette(feu Roger Patry). La famille tient à remercier le CLSC de Gatineau, spécialement l'infirmière Pascale Leclerc pour les visites à la maison. À sa demande, il n'y aura pas de visites, ni de service funéraire. He was a loving grandfather to Cody, Lindsay, Kyle, Erin, Michael and his precious great-granddaughter Brook-Lynn (Trout). He will be dearly missed by his mother Beatrice and predeceased by his father Walter. BALZERSEN, Magda Helmine (nee Hertzenberg) January 21, 1910 Magda Balzersen, beloved wife of the late Leif Balzersen, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Oslo, Norway on October 7, 2009 in her one-hundredth year. She was an incredibly spirited woman who experienced an extraordinary life journey over the last century. Throughout her long life, she was an exceptional, inspirational woman in so many ways. She was independant, strong minded and had a wonderful sense of humour. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy and spirit will endure. Beloved mother, "Mor" to us all, she will be dearly remembered always by her only daughter Kari-Gro (Saeed Quraeshi) of Montreal, her grandchildren Sabrina (David Thorpe) of Ottawa, Shereen, Leif (Gaelle) of Montreal, Shameen (Barry Poplaw) of Miami and her great-grandchildren, Kai and Leif Andreas, Morgan and Noah, Alexia and Liam and Logan, Sierra and Alexander and her sister Ruth Ditlefsen and family in Norway. GONYEA , Bruce Leroy Bruce, beloved husband of sixty-one years to Claire of Calgary, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at the age of 84 years. Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his children: Gail Gonyea of Calgary, Leslie (Terry) MacElwain of Carstairs and Janet (Erwin) Selinger of Regina, grandchildren: Mike, Shelley, Rick, Jeanne, Chelsea, Christine, great-grandchildren: Alex, Josh, Travis, Elijah, Jesse, Trinity and Cooper. He is also survived by brother David (Gwen) Gonyea, sisters: Harriet Weale and Elizabeth Breakenridge, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by brother Bob, sisters: Althea, and Marie. Dad lived a full life with many interests including the Model Airplane Flying Club, Good Sam Camping Club, as well as being active at his church. GRABINSKY , Ed Ed Grabinsky of Olds passed away October 11, 2009 at the Olds Hospital at the age of 94 years. He was born to Wilhelm and Katharina Grabinsky February 3, 1915 on the family farm in Leader, Saskatchewan. November 22, 1941 Ed married Delia Uffelman. In 1942, Richard was born followed by Arlene in 1944. After a brief experience working in Calgary Ed moved back to Beiseker where he farmed until 1980. At retirement, Ed and Delia moved to Olds and remained in their new home until 2001. The home was sold and they moved to Sunrise Village. Ed spent the last two-and-a-half years in the Olds Long Term Care. In addition to all God's blessings bestowed upon him, when the end came Ed was surrounded by those he loved. He is survived by his wife Delia; children Arlene (Bruce), Richard (Ruth); grandchildren Renay, Robert (Pam); great-grandchildren Conner, Kagen and Willem. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Olds with Pastor Norm Tauber officiating. Interment to follow at the Church of God Cemetery, Acme. KELLY , Janet Barr "Netta" July 26, 1911 - October 7, 2009 In the early morning hours of October 7, Netta Kelly slipped away painlessly and willingly and with gentle dignity as she did all things. Netta's significant interest and great strength was in the care and nurturance of small children. She delighted in the company and activity of her pre-school grandchildren and great-grandchildren and often extended that care to the children of friends and neighbours. Nor did her interest lessen as the children grew older. Her immediate participation in their lives was reduced but her advocacy and support for them never waned. Their achievements were sources of great pride and happiness to her. For twenty years Netta and Owen enjoyed a delightful retirement in the Windermere Valley and traveling abroad. Netta is lovingly remembered and celebrated by sons Jim (Carolyn), David (Donna), Peter (Gunilla) and special son, Jim Jenkinson (Irene); granddaughters: Nancy Pichonsky, Megan Kelly, Sarah Lindeman and special granddaughter Carolina Mangone; grandsons: Adam, Daniel, and Scott Kelly; great-grandchildren: Danika, Samuel and Nicholas Pichonsky, Payden Lindeman; granddaughter-in-law Midori Mogi. Netta was predeceased by Owen, her beloved husband of fifty-nine years; her parents Margaret Canning, David MacFarlane and step-father Arthur Canning; sisters Elizabeth Jenkinson and Agnes Tomlinson; grandson Patrick. The family is grateful for the wonderful care and attention extended to our mother by the staff of the Chinook Care Centre for the final two years of her life. MILLER, Helen Elizabeth 1911 - 2009 Helen was born in Upper Charlo, N.B. on September 19, 1911 and passed away quietly on October 12, 2009 following a brief stay at the Grey Nuns Hospital. Matthew McNicol Ainslie November 27, 1915 – October 9, 2009 Matt passed away on the evening of October 9, 2009 at Stanford Place Care Campus in Parksville, BC after a battle with cancer metastasized from his prostate. He will be sorely missed by his family, his loving wife of almost 70 years, Joan Sheila, also a resident of Stanford Place, sons Barry (Sharon) and Bill (Jean), granddaughters Sheila Dix (Dave), Cheryl Cameron (Mark), Barbara Bhatt (Arjun), grandsons Ryan and Jonathan Ainslie (Leila), and great grandchildren, Sarah and Lauren Cameron, William (Billy) Dix, and Conner Ainslie. Also mourning and missing his smiling and caring personality will be sister Jean Preece (Ted), Joan's cousins, Mavis and her hubby Ron Trask of Sidney, BC, Pam and her hubby Keith Taylor of Victoria, sisters-in-law Shirley Johnson of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Ruth Ainslie of Steinbach, Manitoba, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by many golf buddies made whilst a member of Royal Colwood Golf Club in Victoria, BC and Morningstar Golf Club in Parksville, BC. All thought of him as a gentleman golfer and much enjoyed his company on the links. He was a very capable golfer, having taken up the game seriously following retirement to Victoria, and "shooting his age" every year from the age of 76! Matt was born in Winnipeg, November 27, 1915 to Alexander and Mary (nee McNicol), and in addition to sister Jean from North Vancouver, also had two brothers, Ramsay (Rose) and James (Ruth), and a sister Margaret Johnson (Hugh), each of whom predeceased him. The five children were all raised during the depression years, which might explain his obvious delight in winning a "Toonie" from his golf buddies! He worked briefly in the grain business before being called to serve in WWII, ultimately overseas, in the Army. He was a Lieutenant when he left the forces, returning to Winnipeg and joining the Federal Civil Service (Canadian Grain Commission) in the grain inspection branch. He rose skillfully through the ranks and on retirement in 1974 at the young age of 58 was Chief Grain Inspector for Canada reporting through the Board of Grain Commissioners. He was fortunate to have been able to travel the world both on business and during his retirement years with his beloved Joan. Our family is deeply indebted to his physician Dr. Carey Sulz and the many thoughtful and caring staff members of Stanford Place, most of whom still have responsibility for Joan. Their gentle touch and steadfast interest in assuring his comfort as he neared the end will be forever remembered. Thanks too, to the VIHA home care specialists who cared for Dad while he was at home. A gathering of friends & family is planned for Wednesday November 11, 2009. Flowers gratefully declined, however, should individuals wish to contribute to a charity in his memory, The Salvation Army and The Canadian Cancer Society were two of his favourites and donations to either in his name would be gratefully accepted. Merle Marguerite Morrice (Hansen) August 20, 1929 October 14, 2009 Merle Morrice of Eston, SK passed away peacefully at Kindersley following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Glen, her infant son Mark, and her parents John and Mary Hansen. She is survived by her children, Rick (Maureen) Morrice of Eston, Glenda (Keith) Graves of Outlook and Rob (Lisette) Morrice of Saskatoon; grandchildren Erica (Andrew) Vahl, Darcy (Traci) Morrice, Ashley (Ryan) Pawliw, Adam Graves, Katlin Graves, Jordan Graves, Samantha Morrice and Woody Morrice. She is also survived by her sisters, Joy Johnson of Kindersley, Lenore Keller of Saskatoon and Leslie Erickson of Regina, and five great grandchildren, Emma and Alexa Morrice, Evan and Kara Vahl and Ava Pawliw. Merle was born and raised on the family farm north of Glidden. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and the Ladies' Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Prairie West Historical Society. Her loves were not only her children and grandchildren but also farming, baseball, hockey and bingo. REE Angus Creelman, Q.C. August 28, 1929 - October 9, 2009 Angus passed away peacefully Friday at Peace Arch Hospital. He is survived by his daughter Deanna (Michael) Marti, and sons Scott Ree and Cameron (Geraldine) Ree, seven grandchildren, his sisters, Mary, Gail and Janet, his dear friend Gail Austin, and many family members and friends. Angus was born in Vancouver and attended Lord Byng Secondary School followed by UBC. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1953. After serving in the Canadian Army, he was admitted to the Bar in 1956 and practiced as a corporate lawyer until entering politics in 1979. He represented the North Vancouver-Capilano riding as a B.C. MLA from 1979 to 1991. In 1988/89 he served as B.C.'s first Solicitor General. His favorite past-times were working in the yard and a good game of cribbage. Angus always had a kind word for strangers and was eager to give back to the community. He spent his last years driving for the BC Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held on November 21, 2009 at 2 pm at Celebration Hall, Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser Street, Vancouver where he was laid to rest. OBITUARY LAWSON GARAYT 1932 - 2009 On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, Lawson Garayt died peacefully, following a lengthy illness. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Gilberte Beliveau, and his four children, Carroll (Odette), Alan (Lucie), Rodney (Lisa) and Nancy (Claude). He is survived by his brother Leslie. He was a man with an easy laugh. He enjoyed travelling and did often, but music and the military were his life-long interests. He was able to unite both by playing the French horn with the Black Watch Band of Montreal for many years. He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Cindy, Stephanie, Jonathan, Jayson, Matthew, Erin, Krysta, Stefan, Gabrielle and Simon, his great-grand-children, Samuel, Louisa, Alexander and Anthony, and his numerous nieces and nephews. Le service religieux sera célébré le LUNDI 19 octobre 2009 à 11h30 en l'église St-Ephrem (150, 13e Ave Sud, Sherbrooke) et de là au cimetière Elmwood de Sherbrooke. Outre son épouse, M. Elias laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Demetra Elias (Mayco Quiroz), Niki Elias (Mathieu Fleury) et Zacharie Elias. Ses petits-enfants Alex, Agathe, Lea et Marcus. Ses frères et soeurs : Marinus (Liberty), Dimitrius (Anastasia), Georges (Charlotte). Il était aussi le frère de feu Johnny (Panagoula). Il laisse ses beaux-parents Spiros et Dimitra Théodorou. Ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs : Christos (Patricia), George (Dimitra), Peter (Elizabeth), Eleni et Anna-Maria ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, autres parents et amis. La famille tient à remercier tout le personnel des soins palliatifs du CHUS Hôtel-Dieu pour les bons soins prodigués à M. Elias. VAIR, Gloriette (nee Carroll) - Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday October 15th 2009 in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Robert Joseph Vair. Loving mother to Carolanne Vair, the late Robert Jordan Vair, and Patricia (James) Nicholas. She will be sadly missed by daughter-in-law Bernice Vair, grandchildren Christine (Rob) Sheppard Jason (Kim) Vair, Catherine and Julie Vair, Bradley (Melissa) Nicholas, and Andrew Nicholas, and great-grandchildren Victoria, Robbie, Sam, Ty, Jordan, Allyson, and Brady. Survived by a sister Lillian Suddaby, brothers Albert and Henry Carroll, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by her parents Irenee and Laura Carroll, brothers Leo, Roger and Norman Carroll, and sisters Lauretta White and Dora Carroll. The family will receive friends at McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, 495 Park Rd. JOHNSTON, Miss Adelaide Ruth - 1917- 2009 - A resident of Riverview Gardens, Miss Adelaide Ruth Johnston, in her 93rd year. Thankful for a peaceful life, she went to Heaven to join her parents Walter Abbot Johnston and Jeanne Elizabeth (Bradley) Johnston on Friday October 16th, 2009. Born in Chatham on April 29th, 1917. Adelaide enjoyed her immediate and extended family. She held the nickname “Miss Prairie Siding“ for many years. Adelaide was a thirty year employee of the Royal Bank of Canada and a life-long member of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Dover. She was also a member of the Sunset Lodge #185, Sombra for over 60 years. Surviving are her sisters Winnifred Crowe of Wallaceburg, Doris Carey of Blenheim, and sister-in-law Verna Johnston of North York. Adelaide is predeceased by her twin brothers Graham and Glenn Johnston, sister-in-law Lillian Johnston and brothers-in-law Glenn Crowe and George Carey. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund c/o St. Thomas Anglican Church, 7077 Grand River Line, Pain Court, On, N0P 1Z0 would be greatly appreciated.
