SHOVELLER, Walter John (Jack) - The family of Walter John (Jack) Shoveller are sad to announce his sudden, accidental death on Wednesday, August 5th in his 66th year. He is survived by his loving wife Krysta (Ignacy), daughter Anna Kate and her husband David DiCenzo, and mother Beatrice Evelyn (Dolly). He was predeceased by his father Herbert. His sister Beth Hreljac and husband Vic, brother Herb and wife Joanne, brother Bob (Brock) and wife Klara, brother-in-law Ted Ignacy and wife Aili and brother-in-law Don Ignacy, plus many nieces and nephews will greatly miss his fun-loving energy and endless stories. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Jack went on a hockey scholarship to Brigham Young University, where he earned a history degree, to Ryerson University for a photography degree and to teachers college in Toronto. He taught in at Beamsville Secondary School in Beamsville, and Sir John A. Macdonald and Barton secondary schools in Hamilton. He retired in 2000. Jack/Wally/Shovy will be missed dearly by his many friends, golf mates, cousins, former students and colleagues, neighbours and hockey pals. It is amazing how many people swear he was their best friend. A celebration of his life will be held at Ruthven Park National Historical Site on Saturday, August 15th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Donations in his memory can be made to Lower Grand River Land Trust.

PIGEAU, Robert “Bob” - The family announces with deepest sorrow, his death in Sudbury, Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the age of 63 years. Son of the late Josepha and of the late Marie (née Laplante) Pigeau. Loving brother of Denise Lahte (Richard) of Sudbury, Denis Pigeau (Marie) and Adelard “Dell” Pigeau (late Pauline) (friend Denise) both of Hanmer, his twin brother Roger Pigeau (Shirley) of Sturgeon Falls and Roland Pigeau (Jocelyne) of Sault-Ste- Marie. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Robert, who was an avid guitar player, was at his best entertaining relatives and friends when not golfing or gone fishing. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, council 5005, Hanmer. GRETSINGER, Allan Frederick - (September 23, 1931 - August 7, 2009) BA, Theology (Testamur) Queen's University at Kingston M.Sc.Ed. - Niagara University Passed peacefully in his sleep at Albright Manor. Born in Pine Falls, Manitoba to Edward and Hattie Gretsinger. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Van, and his children Ruth (Willem Ekels), Ellen, and Lorne and granddaughters Lily and Clara. Predeceased by daughters Jane (1961) and Mary (1963). Siblings Lorne (Dec. March 2009) (Edna), Geraldine (Eugene Vannier), and Elizabeth (Jerry Bertrand). He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews. He taught at Beamsville District Secondary School from 1958 - 1989, retiring as Guidance Head. He lived for community service: a member of the Lincoln Concert Band for 45 years; 6 terms as an Alderman in the Town of Lincoln; a Big Brother; past President of the Beamsville Lions Club; member of the Albright Manor Board for 17 years; member and leader in Trinity United Church, Beamsville, since 1958. He was Lincoln Citizen of the Year in 1988 and was honoured by the naming of the new Beamsville pool in 2007. REDFEARN, Ralph E. - Passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday August 6, 2009 at the age of 75. Ralph went to join his loving wife Muriel (2006) of 50 years, loving father of Cheryl Johnsen (Gary Miller), David (Sherry), Michael, Linda Moore, Tim (Rena), Valerie (John) Terpstra and Sandra Stephenson, dear grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, dear brother of Paul and Joan Redfearn, predeceased by brother Harry Redfearn and parents Ralph and Pearl Redfearn. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and by the Hendsby family. Ralph worked at General Motors for 30 years before retiring in 1994, was a member of St. Catharines Cribbage League, Senior League Bowling and Niagara Senior Golf League.Special thanks to Nurse Bernie for her loving care and compassion. (Tony) August 25, 1936 - August 5, 2009 With great sadness the family of Tony Chernushenko announce his sudden, but peaceful passing, two weeks following a traumatic head injury. He leaves in mourning wife Luanna (nee Blackmore), daughter Raissa (husband Victor Fuke), son David (wife Marie-Odile Junker), grandchildren Eric and Gaia Chernushenko, Gabriel and Arianna Fuke, as well as sister Raya Juchymenko (husband Alex) and their family. Born in Hysin, Ukraine Tony immigrated to Canada in 1948, and within his career served in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Foreign Service. Passionate about his adopted country he travelled it numerous times from coast to coast. A private funeral will take place on August 8th. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on August 25th at 1:30pm at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, 30 Cleary Avenue. GISHLER , Mary Elizabeth Lucille June 15, 1984 - August 3, 2009 Mary died, as she had been born 25 years earlier, struggling for her life surrounded by family and caring Medical Staff at the Foothills Hospital. Mary was a special gift from God who taught us to laugh, love unconditionally and pray for the healing of others. Mary was a sensitive gifted artist. She enjoyed caring for an autistic child and dog walking. Mary was the only daughter of the Reverend John and Lucille Gishler. MacDOUGALL, Florence (nee Kelly) Peacefully, Flo passed into the waiting arms of our Lord on August 6, 2009 after a long illness. Beloved wife of Bernard for a wonderful 53 years, cherished mother of Anne (John Rocchi), Bob, Francis (Linda), and Mary (Neil Osborne). Loving and proud Nana of Meredith, Kevin, Aileen, Shealyn, Grace, Corey and Jake. Flo, the youngest of 13 children, was raised in Manotick, Ontario, and will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters including Mary, Phyllis, Mike, Fran, Marion, Nora and Linus. She is predeceased by Dan, Wilfred, Ken, Phillip, and Louella, and will be fondly remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Flo graduated as a registered nurse from St.Mary's Hospital in Montreal and shortly thereafter married a wily engineer who couldn't believe his good fortune. She worked in various Montreal hospitals and after raising her family had a rewarding career as a real estate agent for over 23 years with Royal Lepage in Burlington. Flo was a beautiful woman both inside and out. She will be remembered for her warm and generous spirit, her patience, her sense of humour, her devotion to her family and her faith in God. Special thanks to Deb Weber with the JBMH Heart Function Clinic, as well as the other wonderful nurses and caregivers that supported Flo. The CCAC was an immense help through this period. In addition, the family is grateful for the incredible support of many dear friends throughout Flo's illness. IVY KATHLEEN RUSSELL Friday, 7 August 2009 - 12:19 pm It is with great sadness the family of Ivy Kathleen Russell announces her passing on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Rainycrest Long Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ontario. Ivy was born on September 9, 1903 in London, England to the late Richard and Fanny Nichols. She was the youngest of four children, and the daughter of a naval family. In London, Ivy worked as a receptionist and secretary in a real estate firm. She immigrated to Canada in 1920 with her mother and father, and settled on a farm at the bend in the river in La Vallee, Ontario where they operated the Sunnyside Poultry Farm for 20 years. On June 30, 1927 she was united in marriage to Alfred Russell and later moved to Fort Frances, Ontario in September of 1940, where they have lived since. Ivy was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and choir, a member and past noble grand of the Redwing Rebekah Lodge 109, long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star #80 (Evergreen Chapter) and member for years of the Horticultural Society, where gardening was one of her most important interests. For many years, she worked on the Music Festival Committee, was a member of the C.P. & T. Committee (Humanitarian Services), and the Fort Frances Kennell Club as Ivy was very fond of dogs. Ivy often sang solo selections for the Rebekahs and Eastern Star, and through out her life had an interest in painting and art. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Elmo Russell; one sister, Elsie Lavina Hardy; and two brothers, Richard Herbert Nichols in England and Ronald Astle Nichols in Ear Falls, ON.; and one niece, Doris Penny of Ripley, Surrey, England. Ivy is survived by her daughter, Shirley Anne Russell of Fort Frances, ON.; great nieces and nephews; and friends and staff at Rainycrest. Cremation took place in International Falls, Minnesota. A memorial service to celebrate Ivy’s life was held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances, Ontario with Pastor Diane Clifford officiating. Interment took place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ontario.
