CODE, W. Lawrence Peacefully in hospital in Perth, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday July 8th, 2009, Lawrence Code (retired following 38 years of teaching in the Ottawa and Lanark County areas) at the age of 77 years. He was the beloved husband of Gwena M. (Beggs) Code, dear father of Bill (Donna) Code and Alanna Code and her husband Ian Frei. He will be sadly missed by grandsons Kyle and Adam Code, brothers Clark and Russel Code, his family and many friends. He was son of the late William Ernest and Edna (Moulton) Code. GROULX (Bourgon), Aline (Nee Dinelle) Peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the age of 84. Daughter of the late Conrad Dinelle and the late Desneiges Dinelle (nee Michaud). Beloved wife of the late Jean-Paul Groulx as well as the late Rene Bourgon. Loving Mother of Raymond Bourgon (Darlene), Denise (Roger Papineau), Louise (Michael O'Neil), Robert Bourgon (Sandi Coy), Marcel Bourgon, Andre Bourgon (Corinne), Karole Bourgon (Don Hill) and Sandra Bourgon. Will be greatly missed by many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Fondly remembered and survived by seven brothers and pre-deceased by two brothers and two sisters. HOLMES, Dorothy Agnes Peacefully, surrounded by peace and love, at Broadview Nursing Centre, in Smiths Falls, on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in her 87th year. Dorothy Agnes Holmes, (nee Bourque), cherished mother of Earl (Sylvia) Holmes of Cargill, Ontario and Claude (Debbie) Holmes of Perth. She was the loving daughter of of the late George and Mary Bourque. Dorothy was preceded in death by her dear husband, the late Allan Samuel Holmes (1986). Dorothy was the dearest grandmother of Richard (Carolyn) Holmes of Balderson, and Lorraine (Morley) Kimmett of Cargill, and will be sadly missed by her great-granddaughter Brooklyn, and her sister Florence (late Art) Martin, of Calgary, and sisters-in-law Addie Bourque and Shirley Poirier. Dorothy was also predeceased by her brothers Hubert (late Violet), Fred (late Jean), Angus (Addie), Emil (late Jacqueline), John, and Donald (Shirley Poirier); as well as sisters Lucy (late Nelson) Juby, Emma (late Claude) Juby, Mabel (late James) Norris, and Nora (late Fred) Warner. Dorothy will be forever remembered as a wonderful wife, a nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a dear sibling to her brothers and sisters, and a special friend to all who knew and loved her. ROCK , David William It is with infinite sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our David William Rock on July 2, 2009 at the age of 46 years. David is survived by his mother Patricia; sister Kelly; brother-in-law Paul Green and nephew, Patrick. He was predeceased by his father Ivor. David was born and raised in Calgary and had strong ties to Canmore where he spent much of his life enjoying the outdoors with his family and friends. A Detective in the Major Crimes Section, David had served a distinguished twenty-two year career with the Calgary Police Service, gaining both the trust and respect of those he met. David enjoyed music, was a great cook and loved his yearly trips to OZ. This special soul loved a good laugh and will always be remembered for his wonderful wit and sense of humour. RUTLEDGE , Eva Margie (nee McCurdy) After a decline, Eva (known to many as Eve), passed away Thursday morning, July 9, in Calgary, Alberta. Eva was the loving and beloved wife of Wayne Rutledge and mother of Margie and Alicean (Frank). She is survived by her grandchildren Espe, Jacob and Vincent Currie of Toronto and Theo, Hugo and Evie van der Voet of Calgary. She is also survivedby her sister, Winnie Klay, of Tampa, Florida. Eva was born at her family's home - Shady Nook - in Mercer County, Pennsylvania on May 26, 1917. Having lived in many places throughout the United States, she immigrated to Canada with Wayne and the girls in 1966. In Calgary, Eve taught for many years at Mount Royal College. She loved teaching and was loved and respected in return by both colleagues and students. Eva was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved conversation, political debate and good food. She will be deeply missed. Winnie (Nanny) Currie Winnie (Nanny) Currie passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the age of 89 years at the Beach Grove Nursing Home in Charlottetown, P.E.I. A devoted and caring mother, Winnie raised her family in Dartmouth, N.S. and then pursued a career in the retail industry. Her grandchildren, and later on, great-grandchildren, were the light of her remarkable life. She is predeceased by her husband Roy, a daughter Florence, and brother Douglas O’Neill of Enfield, N.S. She will be sadly missed by her son Leonard (Glenda) Currie, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; and daughter Diane (Walter) Piccott, Rockland, O.N.; as well as six sisters Ethel Munroe, Enfield, N.S.; Patricia Gilby, Enfield, N.S; Avis Logan, Moncton, N.B; Peggy Langille, Bedford, N.S; Joan Shewaga, London, ON; Dean Currie, Enfield N.S;. and two brothers James O’Neill, Enfield, N.S.; and Jerome O’Neill, Moncton N.B. Myrtle Rosamond McGrath Peacefully at the Kings County Memorial Hospital on Friday, July 10, 2009, of Myrtle Rosamond (MacDonald) McGrath (nee Nolan), aged 94, of Montague, formerly of West St. Peters. Loving mother of Kenneth MacDonald, Lakeside and special aunt of Phyllis Nolan, Montague. Also survived by brothers Gus and Pius and sisters Leona Mauger and Rita Eyre and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands Charles Reuben MacDonald and John Bernard McGrath, parents Daniel and Mary Lauretta (MacDonald) Nolan, brothers William, George, Ivan and Joe and sisters Marguerite Leinster, Viola Nolan, Cora Callaghan and Mary Christos and nephew Gerald Nolan. MATSON, Juliana 2009-07-10 Mrs. Juliana Matson (nee Samas) aged 87 years, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 9, 2009. Julie was born March 24, 1922 in Klenovec Czechoslovakia and came to Fort William, Ontario in 1927. She attended local schools. Julie’’s first employment was at Canada Car during WWII. She was later employed at Revenue Canada and finished her career with the UIC office. Julie cherished her family and very much loved sharing in the lives of her many nephews, nieces and their families. She was very active with her church and her calligraphy group. Her greeting cards were greatly treasured by family and all who received one. She had a great appreciation of art and loved to collect it in all forms. She was an avid photographer and renowned for the quality of her photos which she generously shared. On April 26, 1954 she married Ernie Matson. Julie and Ernie loved to travel with many trips to Europe and the tropics. They also travelled extensively throughout North America in their camper van. They enjoyed their camps first at Shebandowan and later at Cloud Lake. She was predeceased by Husband Ernie in 1987, father Andrew Samas, mother Julia Samas, and brother Andy Samas. She will be greatly missed by her sister Beatrice Samas, sister-in-laws Irene Matson and Yvonne Samas, nieces Andrea Wood, Elaine Bell (Rodney), nephews Richard (Lauren) Samas, Stephen (Pattie-Anne) Samas, Robert (Michele) Samas, great nieces and nephews: Ryan Samas, Jeremy Samas, Emma Costa (Tyler), Alison Wood, Ella Bell, Gregory Samas, Elizabeth Wood, Alannah Bell, Joseph Wood, C.J. Samas, Eric Samas, Katie-Lee Samas, Jordan, Samas, R. J. Samas and Dylan Samas. Family in Slovakia and many friends worldwide. Harvey was predeceased by his wife Jean (nee Peever) (1921 - 1978). KEATING, Ruth Elizabeth - After a long and happy life, Ruth Keating died on July 7, 2009 in her 93rd year in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Ruth and her husband Bill celebrated 68 years of marriage. GOWAN, William C. “Bill“- Bill, 76, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his home in Curtis, MI surrounded by his family. He was born May 31, 1933, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mi and moved to Curtis, MI in 1944. He was a graduate of Newberry H.S. and Michigan State University. He was also a fighter pilot in the US Air Force holding the rank of Captain and was an original member of the Mach Busters Club. He married the love of his life, Marlene Bidwell in 1956. They raised their family in Okemos, MI where he worked for Lifetouch for 33 years and went on to become Senior Vice President of Acquisitions. He spent his retirement years between Michigan and Florida. His love and commitment to his family shaped his life. He loved spending time with both his immediate and extended family. He also had a passion for reading and spending time outdoors, boating, hunting & fishing. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marlene (Bidwell) formerly of Cassopolis, MI, children; John (Mary) Gowan of Harbor Springs, Doug (Beth) Gowan of Okemos, Brian (Anne) Gowan of Okemos and Mary Elizabeth (Jeff) Liska, also of Okemos; three grandchildren, Nathan (Lacy), Nicholas & Benjamin; his siblings, twin sister Nancy (Richard) Erickson of Curtis and Fred (JoAnn) Gowan also of Curtis, MI. He is also survived by his step-father, Sherman Ludlow of Curtis. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta Ludlow of Curtis, his father, John C. Gowan of Sault Ste. CRABTREE, Ronald Floyd - Ron Crabtree died July 9, 2009 at his home in his 65th year. The son of Dorothy Crabtree and the late Arthur Floyd Crabtree (1972), Ron is also survived by Lori Crabtree; his sisters: Linda Crabtree (Ron Book) and Kathie (Paul) Gosen; three daughters: Carlotta (Steve) MacDonald of St. Catharines, Samantha in Calgary, AB and Cassandra in Burlington and two grandsons, two granddaughters and, two nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles. Ron worked for General Motors for 35 years, retiring in 2000. While at GM, he made many friends and traveled to Germany and the United States to represent various lines being produced in Niagara. He had a stroke in 2000 that left him unable to speak but he carried on with incredible fortitude for eight years until diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to Lori who gave Ron incredible loving care, Dr. Levesque and the nurses and staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital Out Patient Cancer Clinic where Ron has been seen weekly since last November, Dr. Hartman, his PSWs and CCAC supervisors and nurses, and as well as the visitors from Hospice Niagara, his friends from GM and all of those who made it possible for Ron to stay at home during his final months. A special thanks to Bob and Louise Carpenter for their years of support and unfailing friendship to Ron. Cremation has taken place. The death of Mr. Perry Lewis Crain, of Centreville, occurred on July 4, 2009 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. Born on May 2, 1920, he was the son of the late Joseph and Iva (Grant) Crain. Perry is survived by his wife, Mae Hynes; daughter, Sylvia Tompkins (Peter) of Royalton, NB; grandchildren, Natasha Somerville (Jason) and Travis Tompkins; five great-grandchildren, Brendan, Ethan, Devan, Zaidan and Jordan; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Perley Crain; two sisters, Sylvia Smith and Margaret Ward. Visitation was held at L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville on Monday, July 6th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Bob Allaby officiated.
