BRETTSCHNEIDER, George - In loving memory of George Brettschneider, 52 years, who left this life here on Saturday, June 6th, 2009 in his home after an unexpected illness. He was the son of Marianna and John Brettschneider both predeceased. He was a devoted husband, and he will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Deborah Brettschneider. George will be forever remembered by his three children, Darryl (Kimberly), Jennifer (Bashir) and Mallorie. George was born on March 10th, 1957 in Sudbury, Ontario. George retired last May, after working 33 years at INCO. George will be remembered by his fellow co-workers of Clarabelle Mill. He will be greatly missed by those who were a part of his life. BRETON, Huguette (née Brouillette) - Peacefully passed away with her family by her side in Azilda on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the age of 63 years. Daughter of the late Achile and the late Simone (née Guimond) Brouillette. Beloved wife of 43 years to Jean-Claude Breton of Azilda. Loving mother of Jasmin Breton (Jodi) of Regina, Sask., Francine Marleau of Calgary, Alberta and Joël Breton (Nancy) of Woodbridges, On. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Alyx, Kamay, Sean and Arik. Dear sister of Gilbert Brouillette (Claire Gignac) of Chelmsford. Predeceased by her brother Marcel Brouillette (Gisèle of Azilda). Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and all the children she's babysat throughout the years. Survived by her mother Rose Godin (93 years old) of Kitchener. Predeceased by her father Ed Godin on December 31st, 1999. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Leona was a member of the Dowling Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. SANCHIONI, Tina (nee Mei) - In loving memory of Tina (nee Mei) Sanchioni, 88 years, of Copper Cliff, who passed away Saturday, June 6th, 2009 at the SRH - Laurentian Site. Tina was born in Fano, Italy and married Elio Sanchioni in Copper Cliff in 1941. A well known and loved Copper Cliff resident, Tina was a devout Roman Catholic who attended St. Stanislaus Church and she belonged to the parish CWL and sang in the choir. She had a special devotion to St. Theresa and she daily said her prayers and the Rosary. She was a life member of the Copper Cliff Italian Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing bocce and doing jigzaw puzzles. She was devoted to her family. She will be remembered as a very caring and loving person. She was especially attentive and supportive of her brother Oscar. She was happiest preparing and hosting special family meals. Especially for her precious grandchildren. Tina lived the lessons taught by Jesus as a good samaritan and good shepherd to all she met. Beloved wife of Elio Sanchioni predeceased 1992. Loving mother of Nadine (husband Gus Principi). Cherished grandmother of Dean Principi (Deana) and Tammi Principi (Steve Waddell) and great grandchildren Adria, Marika and Mia. Dear daughter of Felix and Maria (Bernacchia) Mei predeceased. She was an avid golfer at the Idywylde Golf and Country Club; she was a keen traveller; and she was an accomplished dancer. She enjoyed socializing with her friends. SMITS, Albertus Johannes (1922-2009) Died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 4th in Toronto. Jo was born in Berlicum, the Netherlands, to parents Adrianus Henricus Smits and Adriana Johanna Van Hedel, the eldest of 11 children. He emigrated to Canada in 1948 with his wife, Sophia Fransesca, establishing the family farm in Twin Elm, Richmond. Jo was a loving father, grandfather, brother and son. He is survived by his daughters Judit Smits (Bert Vandenberg), Sonja Smits (Seaton McLean), his grandchildren Veronika, Avalon and Lian, and his youngest siblings Diny Vandenakker and Harry Smits, and his long-time partner and brother-in-law, Henk De Kemp. Jo will be greatly missed and remembered for his dignity, strength, loyalty and gentle humour by all of us who loved him. The memorial service will be held at 14:00 on June 23 at St Patrick's Church, Fallowfield, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children's Bridge Foundation in Ottawa would be welcome. Mr. Royce Leonard Simpson, husband of Annie (Taylor) Simpson of Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, formerly of King George Hwy, Miramichi, passed away Sunday morning May 31, 2009 at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, at the age of 86. Born in Lower Neguac NB, he was the son of the late Arnold and Janet (Wishart) Simpson. He was self employed in plumbing and heating. He was a member of St. James and St. John United Church and was also an elder of the church. Besides his wife Annie, he is survived by one daughter; Gayle Churchill (Ken) of Sackville; three sons; Allan (Heather) Simpson of Halifax; Wayne (Susan) Simpson of Millbank; Daryl (Sharon) Simpson of Neguac; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three sisters; Alice Hierlihy, Doris Simpson and Blanche Morrison; two brothers; Randolph and Robert and two infant brothers; Elmer and Stafford. Mr. Royce Leonard Simpson rested at Davidson's Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, Miramichi with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday June 3, 2009 at 3 p.m. from Davidson's Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Fraser officiating. Organist was Krista Hutchison. Soloist Borden B. Davidson rendered "Sweet Hour of Prayer". Congregational hymn was "How Great Thou Art". Remembrance was by Ken Churchill. Burial followed in Burnt Church Union Cemetery. Loving “father“ of Ron Andres (Claudette), Mary Jane Ciurluini (Dan), Eddie Andres (Louise), John Andres (Linda) and Margie Andres (Steve Spoon). Charlie was a dedicated member of St. Davids Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Always a willing hand at St. Davids Lions Club carnivals and functions. He will be missed by his family, many friends and his coffee buddies. Charlie worked at Queenston Quarries, retired from CN Railway after 30 years of service, and was a long time dedicated member of St. Saviours Anglican Church, receiving 'The Order of Niagara', in grateful recognition for service to the church presented by The Bishop of Niagara. HATTON, Heather Elizabeth - The family of Heather, with extreme sadness announce her passing at the age of 50, on June 3, 2009 at the Welland County General Hospital, after a short yet courageous battle with cancer. Heather is the eldest daughter of the late Fred and Marjorie Ives. Heather was born May 15, 1959 in Trail, British Columbia. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Rebecca, who was Heather's pride & joy. Heather was always proud of her daughter and her accomplishments. Marie and Aunt Marguerite Ives, Calgary Alberta, who both hold special places in her heart. She will be sadly missed by many friends and co-workers. Heather was an uplifting person who lived her life the way she wanted to and took from it everything it would give. She loved everyone that came into her life and accepted them for who they were and not what they did. KLIMEK, Frances (daughter of Marta Gruen and Franz Kutschke) - Passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5th, 2009 at the age of 89 years in St. Catharines, Ontario. She will be missed by her son and daughter-in-law Dr. Edwin and Marian Klimek and her grandchildren Caroline and Madeline of St. Catharines. Frances is predeceased by her husband, Edward Klimek, infant son Jurgen and siblings Mary Fahl, Joseph Wesolowski, Anne Kimmen and Otto Wesolowski. Frances and Edward arrived in Canada in 1951 and lived among relatives in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She was a long time employee of Electrohome in Kitchener, Ontario and spent her last years at Anchor Pointe in St. Catharines. COBELL, Mary ( nee Rutka ) - Passed away peacefully Friday morning June 5th 2009 at St. Joseph's Lifecare facility in Brantford, Ontario. Born in Port Colborne on May 22, 1923 and residing in Welland until October 2008, Mary is predeceased by her late husband Peter Cobell to whom she was married to since July 24, 1971 and by her parents Fred Rutka and Helen Roman. Mary was well-known and respected for her proficient and caring provision of bridal garment services at Mitchell's in Welland where she was employed for over 40 years. Mary's unique character and kindness will be remembered by all family, friends and also by staff at St. Joseph's Lifecare in Brantford who attended to Mary since October of 2008. Mary is survived and will be lovingly remembered by family members – sister Vera Worobec in Buffalo, N.Y; brother George Churuk in Port Colborne, ON., and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, the late Russell and Jane Crowe. Born in Sussex Corner in 1936, Joyce studied to become a registered nurse and gave compassionate care to her patients. Joyce met the man of her dreams in John, and they seemed inseparable. They fell deeply in love and John asked for Joyce's hand in marriage on October 10, 1959. Joyce and John would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Joyce will be lovingly remembered as a precious wife and best friend to her husband, a wonderful and nurturing mom to her children, a patient and doting grandmother to Sophie, and a delightful sister to her sisters. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Marys Anglican Church, Miramichi; a dedicated and active member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch #3, Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi, where she held the positions of President, Past President, Treasurer, in addition to many other offices within Branch # 3. She is survived by eight daughters, Wendy Loggie (Stephen), of Miramichi, Bonnie Lenton (Ted), of Miramichi, Karen McCarthy, of Miramichi, Bev Reynolds (Lorne), of Napan, Nancy Jardine (Stephen), of Fredericton, Arlene Matthews (John), of Moncton, Tammy Morris (Ted), of Miramichi, Kim Gill (Thomas), of Barnaby River; two sons, Daryl Matthews, of Miramichi and Jeff Matthews (Cindy), of Quispamsis; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Jessie Howard, of Miramichi; two brothers, Robert Murphy (Margaret) and Randy Murphy, all of Miramichi; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in December 2008; two sisters, Betty Forrest and Alta Greenough. Visitation was at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday. The funeral service was held from St. Andrews United Church, on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Jackie Allain, and the hymns were "Amazing Grace" and Here I Am lord". A solo was offered by Bordon Davidson, "How Great Thou Art". Processional and recessional music was supplied by Louis Galliah, on the bagpipes. The memory candle was lit by grand daughter, Kelsey Gill and the scriptures were read by grandson, Jamie Reynolds and grand daughter, Krista Loggie. Family memories were shared by sons Daryl and Jeff Matthews and grandson, Tony Loggie. A special poem was read by daughter, Arlene Matthews. The honorary pallbearers were Kay McCarthy, Marion Deredin (Manny), Kay Hazlett, Mary Book, Jeanette Fernandez, Carmel Matthews and Clarence (Jr.) MacDonald. The active pallbearers were Tony Loggie, Jason McCarthy, Jamie Reynolds, Brian Reynolds, Chris McCarthy, Lorne Ferguson. FOISEY, Laurent (Larry) George - On Friday, June 5, 2009 after a courageous struggle with cancer, Larry passed away peacefully in his 64th year surrounded by his loving partner Sue and his sisters Therese and Laurette at the Timmins and District Hospital. Throughout his struggle, Larry maintained his unique sense of humour and zest for life. Larry will be sadly missed by his loving partner of 23 years, Susan Pollard, his children Arthur (Patrick) and Lorraine Foisey, Monique Foisey, Joanne Cudney, Joey and Laurie Foisey, as well as his grandchildren Jennifer, Brandon, Christopher, Alexander, Samantha, Ashley and Jessica as well as his great- grandaughter Sophia. He is also survived by his brothers Ernest and Aurel and sisters Therese, Helene, Florette and Laurette. Pre- deceased by his parents Arthur and Mae and his sister Jeanne D'Arc. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful medical staff at the Timmins and District Hospital for their care and understanding. In our opinion, they went above and beyond the call of duty while attending to our father. At Larry's request, cremation has taken place. RIVERS, Catherine Idella (Ashenden) - Peacefully at Northland Pointe on June 5th in her 95th year, with her family at her side, Catherine Idella (Del) Rivers is reunited in love and faith with Jack (1987), her husband of fifty years, and beloved daughter, Bonnie (2009). Survived by sons John (Sherry), Bill (Nancy), Gerry (Sue), and son-in-law Ron King. Cherished grandmother of Rick King, Tracey Robb (John), Laura Prior, John Rivers Jr., Derek Rivers (Sheri), Steve Rivers (Tammy), Chris, Ali, Jackie and Tom Rivers. JON SAMUEL VOUTT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jon Samuel Voutt, 61, on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Jon was born July 24, 1947 in St. Steven, N.B. There he was raised by his mother, Jean, with his brothers, Vance (Ethan), Vince, and Dale. As a young man, Jon ventured westward and eventually stopped at Thunder Bay, Ont. There he met the love of his life, Jane Singleton. The couple were wed Sept 22, 1973. Starting in Thunder Bay and then later Fort Frances, they raised two daughters, Michelle and Melissa. The true focus of Jon’s life can be summed up in one word: FAMILY. Jon’s tireless devotion to his wife and daughters was ever present. He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Jon’s work life consisted of managing different retail stores, including K-Mart, Stedmans, and Western Groceries to name a few. Later in his work career, many would remember Jon as the always smiling Holsum Breadman delivering bread around the district. With his approachable, soft-spoken ways, Jon could get along with anyone. While his visits were few, Jon always remained a Maritimer at heart. He was forever catching up on the latest headlines in the St. Croix Courier. He enjoyed being outside in the yard and occasional chance to wet a line fishing. Jon is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters, Michelle (Roy) Kaun and Melissa (Brent) Danylchuk; grandchildren, Jessica, Dylan, Ryan, and Erika; brothers, Ethan (Jackie) Voutt and Vince Voutt; and nieces, Lori Ann, Mary Jean, Regina, Lisa, and their families. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating. STOBIE , Ida Elizabeth (Betsy) June 23, 1935 - June 4, 2009 It is with sadness that the family announce the passing of our Mother and Grandmother, Betsy Stobie, at the Rockyview General Hospital, with her family at her side. Betsy was born in Seattle, WA and later moved to Spokane. While attending the University of Idaho, she met a young Calgarian, Gordon Stobie, whom she fell in love with and married in 1958. Upon graduating with a degree in Education, she moved to Calgary, became a Canadian citizen and called this city home for the rest of her life. Betsy was an elementary school teacher with the Calgary Catholic School District, retiring in 1990. Her first love was working with kids and her classroom always reflected that passion. Betsy was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon in 2005. After Gordon's passing, she remained active in many different groups, including swimming, Widow's group and her art which helped her to develop many friendships. Betsy is remembered by her daughter Vicki (Craig) Fluker, her grandchildren that meant so much to her, Janessa, Josh and Marissa; and her son Jim (Wendy) Stobie, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her sister Leola Condotta of Richland, WA.
