GABRIEL, Paul 1926 - 2008 Paul Gabriel, former Algonquin College teacher, passed away accidentally on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the age of 82. STAINES, John H. May 2, 1922 - November 18, 2008 Jack Staines, beloved father and grandfather, slipped away from us on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Beverly Centre, Midnapore. Jack was born May 2, 1922 in Calgary, the only child of Frank and Maebelle Staines. Jack lived his life entirely in Calgary. He met Jean in 1946 while both were working in Lake Louise; and were married in Moose Jaw in May 1948. Jack worked for his father at Silvester Building Supplies, eventually taking over the business in the late 1950's. In addition to the brick supply business, Jack dabbled in sailboats imported from Holland, collecting his favourite automobile the Packard, and real estate investments. In 1960, Jack and Jean built their cabin at Windermere and enjoyed forty years of rest, recreation and relaxation in the East Kootenays. Jack was a long-time member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers, Kinsmen and K40, a charter member of Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, and a member of the Glencoe Club. Jack also volunteered his time to the Canadian Red Cross. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Staines in January 2007. Jack is survived by his six children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Ron (Janice) - Michael, Lisa and Christopher; Doug (Cindy) - Shane Foster; Tom (Nola) - Chelsea and Kayleigh (Brayden and Jordan); Jennifer Simmons (Jeff) - Alex; David - Kieran; Lara Wiebe (Stephen) - Tyler and Shae-Lynne. He is also survived by two cousins, Catherine Harradence and Don Skinner. We are extremely grateful to the staff of the Beverly Centre Midnapore for their compassionate care of our dad and grandfather; in particular Margaret Lichwa RN. We would especially like to thank Len LeRose for his devoted care of Jack. Len has been Dad's personal caregiver for the past seven years. A Private Family Service will be held. Keith was a loving husband and father. He was born and grew up in the Castlegar area, where he worked at Celgar Pulp for thirty-three years. In 2002, Keith moved to Calgary to be near his sons and was a member of the Calgary Mustang Club, enjoying the club activities. Jean ’Johnny’ Boudreau (1937-2008) - C’est avec tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de Jean "Johnny" Boudreau, âgé de 71 ans, domicilié à Shédiac. Il est décédé le mercredi 19 novembre 2008, à l’Hôpital régional Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont, après avoir courageusement combattu la sclérose latérale amyotrophique (SLA) aussi connue comme la maladie de Lou Gehrig. Né le 30 juillet 1937 à Shédiac, il était fils de feu Valérie et Pélagie "Peggy" (Bourque) Boudreau. Outre son épouse depuis 48 ans, Célia (Landry) Boudreau, il laisse dans le deuil leurs cinq enfants: Janice Boudreau (Guy Hébert) de Bouctouche, Michel, Jean-Pierre (Roxanne Bourgeois) et Stéphane (Annie Landry), tous de Shédiac et Patrice (Claire Audet) de Dieppe; six petits-enfants qui le chérissaient: Daniel, Éric, Meagan, Jamie, Marie-Eve et Isabelle; quatre frères: Francis "Frank" (Jean) de Pointe-du-Chêne, Louis (Anne) et Benoit (Majella) de Grande-Digue et Maurice (Karen) de Shédiac; deux soeurs: Marie-Jeanne O’Brien (Alyre) de Shédiac et Anita Boudreau (Aurèle) de Gatineau, Qc, ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces et amis. Outre ses parents, il est précédé dans la tombe par un gendre, Pierre Boudreau. Au début des années 1960, Jean a été conseiller des ventes pour l’assurance Assomption Vie et l’assurance Industrielle, agent de développement de 1976 à 1986 pour la corporation Pizza Delight et de 1987 à 2008, agent d’immeubles résidentiels et commerciaux. In 1989 they retired to the family cottage at Sauble Beach. Over the years Rhoda made many friends through golfing, curling, skiing and bridge. She also maintained a lifelong contact with her nursing classmates. Rhoda was also very active with her church. She was a lifetime member of United Church Women and served on several church boards and choir. Rhoda spent many happy hours in her garden, often working until after dark to get one more thing done. POUNDER, Helen Louise 2008-11-21 With deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Helen Louise Pounder on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at St. Joseph‘s Hospice after a lengthy battle with cancer. Helen is survived by her children, Jim Jr., Teryl Saplywy (Larry), Cherie Berlinquette (Norm) and Tanis Peters (Dan), grandchildren Christian Berlinquette (Lee), Noel Berlinquette (Laurie), Carleigh Saplywy, Kyler Hosanna (Theresa), Bryce Saplywy, Braden and Callie Peters, great-grandchildren Zoe and Jordan Berlinquette, sister Janice Leamy (Gord) and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was born August 5th, 1928 to Hec and Elsie Ede, growing up in Westfort and attending Francis Street School and Fort William Collegiate. She married the love of her life, James Pounder in 1946 and began their family. Helen faced many adversities in her life with determination, spirit, grace and faith. Helen‘s main interests were her family and friends always making sure everyone was looked after. Christmases were spent with family, making the rounds to her many friends for visits. Happy times were spent at the cottage at Burchell Lake and then at One Island Lake, travelling and get-togethers with the members of the “Knitting Club”. Her sense of humour and caring nature won her many life long friends. Helen spent time volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Telecare. She also enjoyed attending bible study group. Helen was predeceased by daughter Leigh-Ann in July 1967, father Hec Ede (George the Porter) in February 1981, mother Elsie Ede in April 1985 and husband Jim Pounder in March 1989. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24th, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul‘s Anglican Church, 808 Ridgeway St. with the Ven. Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin officiating. OSTROM, Ernie 2008-11-21 Mr. Ernie Ostrom, age 80 years, passed away peacefully at TBRHSC on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 after a courageous battle with Diabetes. Ernst Sigurd, better known as Ernie, was born on May 26, 1928 to parents Klaus and Annie Ostrom. Ernie grew up in Thunder Bay alongside his brothers and sister. Ernie married Nora in 1973 and together they lived on Vera Street in Thunder Bay‘s north end for many happy years. Ernie worked at the Sask. Wheat Pool, Port Arthur Shipyards and Grandview Lodge. He was a skilled painter. In his younger years Ernie enjoyed traveling with Nora and raising their dogs Meisha and Pundi who were their beloved pets. He was especially proud of the grandchildren Jen and Brent. He took part in their many activities and spent special hours looking after them and watching them grow with Nora. He had a zest for life and the outdoors. He was an avid cross country skier and volunteer for Lakehead Search and Rescue. He could be seen into his later 70’s biking around the city and stopping to meet with friends at his favourite spots, The Scan, Hoito, Robins and Kangas Sauna. He always had a joke and a smile for all those he met. Ernie is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife: Nora Ostrom, step-son Bob Jones (Catherine) and granddaughter Jennifer Wilson (Ryan) enroute, Brent Jones (fiancée Caitlin Tronsen) and brothers Ron (Shirley) and John. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Marjetta, Rose (Bill), Cornelia, Aurelia and brother-in-law Casey (Lona) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Klaus and Annie, in-laws Suzanne and Cornelius O‘Gorman and brothers Arnie and Sern, sister Ada and brother-in-law Daniel O‘Gorman and other relatives. A celebration of Ernie‘s life will be held at St. Joseph‘s Heritage, in the Georgian Room, on Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 from 2-4pm. Please join family and friends as we celebrate Ernie‘s life. DUCARME, Maurice Archange - After a long & happy life at the age of 89 years peacefully at the QHC-Belleville General Hospital on Tuesday November 18th 2008 born in Belgium was the son of the late Archange & Emilie (LeFebvre) Ducarme. Beloved husband of the late Olive (nee Phillips). Maurice grew up in Alberta, enlisting for WWII service in the RCAF. He remained a member of the RCAF until retirement. Maurice is survived by his sons Terry (Sharon), Dale (Sheila) and daughter Denise (David Madill). Loved Grandad to Kristin, Taryn, Jonathan, Brooke, Jason, Dylan,Kaylie and great grandad of Stella, Lucas, Nathaniel, Avery, Claire and Lucy. Maurice will be fondly remembered by many nieces & nephews. Maurice is predeceased by his infant daughter Sharon, Son Randy, Daughter in law Ethel and brothers Bill & Jack. Special Thanks to Dr. Sloan and the staff of the 5th floor of BGH and Staff & Residents at the Bayview Retirement Home as it was home for the last 5 years. GALLANT, Joseph Elmer The death occurred at the Palliative Care Unit of the Prince Edward Home on Thursday, November 20, 2008, of Mr. J. Elmer Gallant of Charlottetown, age 88 years. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen (Kay) Gallant. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Brenda Edgar of Charlottetown. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph H. and Mary (Bernard) Gallant. MACEACHERN, Hugh Alexander 59, Sydney/Charlottetown. Hugh Alexander MacEachern passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after battling cancer. Born on September 16, 1949, in Inverness, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Alex Jim and Agnes (MacQuarrie) MacEachern. Surviving are his sister, Cathy (Alvin) Croken, Howie Centre, N.S.; niece, Bethany (Kent) Johnstone; nephew, Aron, P.E.I.; uncles and cousins. Besides his parents, Hugh was predeceased by a brother, Hugh Daniel, in infancy. Visitation will take place in the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou, Friday, November 21, 2008, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Fr. TUMINSKI, Tadeusz (Ted) The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Thursday, November 20, 2008, of Tadeusz (Ted) Tuminski of the Summerset Manor, Summerside, P.E.I., and formerly of Shamrock, P.E.I., age 87 years. Ted was born in Warsaw, Poland, on October 17, 1921. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Dwayne Canadian of Shamrock, P.E.I. ARROWSMITH, Eunice (nee Barrington) - In loving memory of Eunice Arrowsmith (nee Barrington), 92 years, who passed away at Extendicare Falconbridge in Sudbury on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Frank Arrowsmith (predeceased 2007). Loving mother of Donald (wife Brenda) of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Jamie (fiancée Katie Schell) of Sudbury and Dana of Ottawa. Predeceased by her brother Frank (late wife Connie). Dear aunt of Beverley (husband Rick McMaster) and Linda Barrington, all of Windsor. Also survived by relatives in Canada and England. Eunice was born in Manchester, England on July 22nd, 1916, daughter of Ada (nee Lowe) and Frank Barrington, both predeceased. In 1942, she and Frank were married in Manchester, England and in 1950, they immigrated to Canada with their young son. In her younger years, Eunice enjoyed and will be remembered for putting on pageants at Christmas time in Windsor and Chatham. She also enjoyed working at department stores in Chatham around the Christmas season and always requested to work in the toy section so she could see the joy on the children's faces. A favourite pastime of hers was baking and her scones and lemon tarts will be missed by all. Eunice will also be remembered for being a faithful lifetime member of the Community of Christ Church (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) but above all, she was extremely proud of her grandchildren Dana, Jamie and his fiancée Katie and spoke of them with great joy and love during her last days “Mom, we will miss you“.
