Mr. Leonard W. Sr. Parsons August 20, 1923 - August 10, 2008 - PARSONS, Leonard W. Sr. “Bunny” – 84, Glades Lodge, formerly of Lucasville, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008, in Glades Lodge. Born in Lucasville, he was a son of the late Deacon Wesley and Elizabeth Parsons. Bunny was baptized in 1980 and was happy to serve as an usher in the Lucasville Baptist Church until he took ill. He worked at Heffler’s Lumber Mill all of his life until his retirement. Leonard was also a volunteer firefighter with the Sackville Fire Department. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and giving them his advice, working on his cars, and tinkering around the yard. He is survived by sons, Leonard (Virginia), Roland (Barbara), Sheldon (Denise); daughters, Beverly, Carolyn, Norine; brother, Keith (Freda); sisters, Lillian Skier, Karen (Eugene), Corine Langford; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gertrude; son, Chester; brothers, Ivan, Roger, Ralph, Edward; sisters, Viola Williams, Enid; granddaughter, Carol. Mr. John E. McNaughton October 13, 1944 - August 14, 2008 - The passing of John Edward McNaughton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 14, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with COPD. John was born in Peterborough, Ontario on October 13, 1944. He joined the Black Watch of Canada in 1967 and served with various units after 1970 and retired in 1996 after serving 29 years. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of forty years; his daughter, Eleanor Bishop (Randy), son, John; his three grandchildren, Ashley, Allya and Hayden; two sisters, Sharon (Don) and Patricia (Syd), of Ontario and also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was pre-deceased by his Father, Mother and Stepmother. A memorial service will be held but arrangements are incomplete at this time. Born in Simonds, NB on September 29, 1921, Hazen was the son of the late Earl and Gladys (Underhill) Ebbett, and husband to the late Julia (Ball) Ebbett. Besides his family and work, Hazen enjoyed cards, fishing, and hunting. Hazen is survived by his seven daughters: Rose Ebbett, Susan Bushby (Jim), Fay Milbury (Lynwood), Nancy Pickard (Peter), Penny McCain (Stephen), Jackie Boyd (Mike), and Peggy Jo Ebbett. Also survived by brothers Harry (Annetta) and Claude (Elsie), sisters Audrey Blue (Arthur), Letha Gaunce, Nina Ball (Ronald), and Alice Cogswell (Fred). Hazen took delight in his 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, wife, and brother, Wendell. She was predeceased by her parents; son David and two brothers Eric and Ron. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband Don; son Ron (Judy) and their family Amanda (Rob), Nicole (Parry) and Ashley (Jordan); daughter-in-law Wendy and her family Chris (Martine) and their son Kobi, Allen (Emmaline) and Robin (Ryan) and their daughter Emma. GROZELLE, Roy - died unexpectedly at North Bay General Hospital on Thursday, October 29, 2008. He was in his 76th year. Roy was the beloved husband of Fay Lorraine (nee Stillar) of Trout Creek and much loved father of the late Debra Rendell (Edward) and Patricia Coyne (Kevin) all of Hornepayne. Proud grandfather of Samuel, Candy, Isaac and Lewis. Dear brother of Betty Corbelli (Corky), Barbara Goodine (the late Arnold), Lois Bridge (Ben), Daintree Wright (Ken), Ross Grozelle (Debbie) and the late Leo Grozelle (Dianne). Mr. Roy Pottie February 9, 1940 - August 6, 2008 - POTTIE, Roy - 68, Grand Lake, passed away peacefully at home from a heart attack, August 6, 2008. Born in Halifax, he was the son the of late Gerald and Muriel (Boyd) Pottie. Roy began his career in the TV industry at CJCH (ATV) and retired from CBC after 27 years as a news cameraman to enjoy life on Grand Lake. Known as an avid "outsdoorman" and "handyman", there was nothing he couldn't do. His many talents and interests were award winning carvings, upholstering, electronics, carpentry, mechanics, hunting, fishing and enjoying time at home. Everyone who knew him said he was a special friend always smiling, cheerful and helpful, he was an overall "great guy". Roy was a great support person for those who were touched with cancer or grieving. He always made time for people. Great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. PASIEKA, Walter 2008-10-31 Walter Pasieka passed away on Tuesday, October 14th with his family at his side. Walter was born on November 5th, 1913 in Dauphin, Man. He was the youngest of eleven siblings. He was predeceased by both parents and siblings. Walter went to Flin Flon in the early 30’s with a team of horses. He and Howard Hedman built the highway between Channing and Green St. in Flin Flon with their teams during the summer of 1938. The following year they built the section between Channing and Big Island Lake. Ivor Hedman delivered Walter‘s Star Phoenix to his log house near Green St. and Phelan Ave. Walter often treated Ivor to a bowl of mulligan stew and a chance to warm up as he was at the end of the route. They have been friends ever since. Walter joined the Army in 1939 and wound up as a signaller in the Nova Scotia Highlander Regiment. He fought in Italy with the 1st Canadian Division, and later, in France, Belgium and Holland. He survived the war without a scratch. After the war he returned to Flin Flon and worked in the lumber business. He had a truck and hauled logs for Orson Wright from Mikanagan Lake area. He established his own lumber mill on the Northeast arm of Schist Lake where he resided and carried on business for many, many years. Most of the cabins, decks and garages in the Bakers Narrows, Big Island Lake, Sourdough Bay and Flin Flon area from the 50’s to the 80’s were built with Pasieka lumber. Thus he earned the title of "Lumber Baron". He survived a terrible crash on Big Island hill which would have probably killed a lesser man. He had a very swollen knee and a slight limp afterwards. He was a life member of the "Boardroom" Group and came for a steam bath and shower every week. He enjoyed accompanying the Boardroom River Group on canoe trips where he drove the pick-up vehicle and refreshment wagon. He sold the mill in 1980 and took up wild rice farming and golf. He liked to get on the golf course early so he could beat Bill Folwark to the beer cans in the bins at each tee. He paid for nearly half his membership fees with those cans! Cross country skiing was another pastime which he got into in later life. He spent many hours grooming trails at the Flin Flon Ski Club as well as skiing on the trails there. His friend, Bill Jackson, of Jackson Air Services, threw an 80th birthday party for Walter at his hangar, which was filled with Walter’s friends. It was a great party! A few years later Walter‘s niece, Marlene, took him to live with her and her Mother (Walter’s sister) in Thunder Bay. Walter spent his last years there with family and friends enjoying a good quality of life. Walter will always be remembered fondly by his family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 3rd at Mountain View Military Plot beginning at 3:00pm with Father Ray Ronquillo officiating. Mr. George Wesley Somers May 11, 1921 - August 11, 2008 - George passed away peacefully Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 87. He was born on May 11, 1921 in Carmen, Manitoba. He then came with his family as a small boy to Prince Albert where he was married to Mary Urban on October 4, 1941 and raised their three children. George served in the Canadian Army from August 20, 1941 until January 24, 1946. He told his family and friends about a motor accidentally going off during his early training, which deafened him in one ear – so he regretted that he did not go overseas. He was proud to be in the Army’s Marching Band, playing the trumpet, crossing Canada to raise morale and war bonds. George was a loyal and dedicated employer working for Prince Albert Dairy Producers Co-operative for 45 years retiring on December 6, 1986. His special interests were his family and friends, many years volunteering with Prince Albert Army Cadets, being involved in marching bands, first with the Army and then continued with the P.A. City and Salvation Army Bands for several years. He had a great ear for music, enjoyed playing his trumpet, singing and listening to old time records. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 18 years, initiated on November 14, 1990. He continued to be active with Army Cadets as he was the Legions Cadet Liaison Officer. He was proud to participate in Remembrance Day Services honouring our soldiers. As recent as November 2007, he carried the flag for a Remembrance Day celebration at the Herb Bassett Home, where he attended the Adult Day Program. George looked forward to his days at the “club” where he found kindness, friendship, woodwork and craft projects to complete and the many gatherings including guest bands and singers. George’s family would like to thank the staff and friends at the Herb Basset Adult Day Program for the great times he had when attending the “club”. To keep his memory are: his sons Dr. Donald Somers (Georgina) of Saskatoon, James (Marjorie) Somers of Prince Albert; his son-in-law George (Brenda) MacPherson of Edgley, his brother Lyle (Vera) Somers of Victoria. He will be missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jon (Eileen) Somers, Walter and George of Saskatoon, Marnee (Dave Millin) Somers of Calgary, Meredith (Mindy Allison) Somers of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cathy (Darren) Ireland, Melissa, Jason Reding, William, Sarah Ireland of Cudworth, Jackie (Glenn) Krip, Justine, Jamie of Spruce Home, Dawn (Trevor) Borstmayer, Georgina, Somer, Marjorie of Prince Albert, David (Pam) Somers, Mackenzie, Zackery of Melfort, Erin (John) Scrivens, Andrew, Mathew, Lauryn of Saskatoon, David (Trisa) MacPherson of Regina, Megan (Tom Boier) of Saskatoon. He will be remembered by his special friend and sister-in-law Anne Urban of Prince Albert, his sister-in-law Phyl McNab (Somers) of Calgary and his nieces, nephews, great-nephews and nieces. George was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary, his daughter Patricia (George) and daughter-in-law Maureen (Donald), his father Harry and mother Anne Foster, his brother Donald, his sister Winnifred, his brother-in-law Peter Urban. It is the family’s request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would like to make a special thank you to Dr. Dale Ardell and the staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m, Friday, August 15, 2008. Reverend Dewey McClintock will officiate. Interment will take place in the Garden of Devotion, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. CAMPBELL, Mary Evaline (nee: Wallis) We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Evaline Campbell (nee: Wallis) on October 28, 2008, surrounded by family, at the Father Lacombe Care Centre. Mary, one of seven children, was born on August 27, 1914, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. The family later moved to Armly, SK to Homestead. Mary served in the RCAF W.D. from 1942 to 1945. She later worked in Saskatoon where she met Chuck Campbell. They were married in June 1947 and moved to Calgary soon after, where they raised their three daughters. She was predeceased by Chuck, twin sister Fran, sister Bessie; and brothers Bob, Gordon and Walter. She is survived by her youngest sister Peggy (Margaret) Wallis, daughters Sandra (Jim) Connolly and their son Cailean of Moose Jaw, SK, Diane Campbell (Daryl Owsley) and her daughter Lisa (Gerald) Tonellato and their children Madison and Marshall, Elaine (Hugh) Swinton and their children Justin and Ashley, and sisters-in-law Ida and Jean Wallis and their families, and numerous other relatives. Mary enjoyed the friendships made, and her associations with Calgary Legion No. 264, the Second Sixties Hiking Club and Pleasant Heights UCW. Mary loved traveling with her sisters but she especially loved time spent with her precious grandchildren, and family. Il demeurait au CHSLD de Beauceville et autrefois de St-Zacharie. Elle était la fille de feu Diana Brissette et de feu Albert Charette et l'épouse de feu Emilien Labelle. Outre sa fille Madeleine (Claude Laviolette) et son fils Robert (Louise Picard), elle laisse dans la tristesse deux petits-enfants: Geneviève Labelle et Stéphane Laviolette (Katherine Dupuis); une arrière-petite-fille: Victoria Blanchette, ainsi que son fidèle Dagobert. Lui survivent, sa soeur Réjeanne (Armand Mongeon), sa belle-soeur Carmen Miron et ses beaux-frères Julien, Réal et Conrad Labelle, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Elle fut prédécédée par son frère Réjean « GaGa » (Annette Hamel) et ses soeurs: Laurence (feu Frank McCullough), Desneiges (feu Raoul Nantel), Flore (feu Camille Méthot), Doralice (feu Joe Beauchamp), Doranna (feu René Roy), Thérèse (feu Gaspard Laviolette), et Rita (feu Arthur Paulette). La dépouille ne sera pas exposée et la famille recevra parents et amis après la courte cérémonie d'adieu qui aura lieu en la chapelle du Funérarium Beauchamp, 105 Boul.
