CARSWELL, Ruth Ann - RN, A.R.C.T. (nee Jackson). Ruth passed away peacefully at home in Barrie, on Monday, September 22, 2008, a victim of cancer. She was a piano accompanist who entertained many people over five decades with her talents. The Barrie public will remember her as accompanist of the Bravado show choir for over a decade. She also accompanied the York Region Children's Chorus for over two decades. During her life in Toronto she accompanied many choirs and performed dozens of shows. She will be remembered for her joy of music and for her infectious laugh, now stilled. She is survived by her family of Andrew, Paul and Terri, Robert, and husband of 41 years, Charlie. The funeral, a musical celebration of life, will be held at Central United Church, Barrie, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 18. LUCAS, Marguerite Stella - At the Toronto General Hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2008 as a result of complications two months after cardiac surgery. Born November 6, 1936 at Thorold South, the daughter of the late Michael (1995) and Stella (2004) Lucas. She was a student of Ontario Public School (Thorold South) and then the Linwell High School system (Thorold & Merritton). Upon graduation in 1954 she spent the next 32 years assisting the Hon. Robert Welch in his career as a lawyer (Lancaster, Mix & Welch) and politician (MPP & Deputy Premier in the Bill Davis government). Upon Mr. Welch's retirement in 1985, Marguerite then spent 12 wonderful years at the Court of Appeal for Ontario at Osgoode Hall in Toronto as senior secretary to Justices Samuel Grange, George Finlayson & Marc Rosenberg. She retired in 1997 and returned to Niagara to care for her ailing mother. She spent the next nine years as a member of the Board of Niagara Child Development Centre (now Niagara Children & Youth Services) as well as over 50 years as Treasurer of her beloved Thorold South United Church. Surviving are her three brothers, Michael (Elvira Balint), Thomas (Susan Kalapos) and Theodore (Donna Gifford) and one nephew Andrew. She will be sadly missed by her beloved Sheltie “Dusty“ and many friends in Niagara, Toronto, Lowbanks and Port Charlotte, Florida. Cremation has taken place. BELWAY, Raymond Harold April 9, 1929 - September 20, 2008 Ray Belway, beloved husband of Barbara Belway of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the age of 79 years. In addition to his wife Barbara, Ray is survived by his children: Michael (Lee), Stephen (Tamara), Brian, and Jennifer (Joseph); his grandchildren: Kendra, Madison, Cole, Aidan and Danielle. Ray is predeceased by his parents Donald and Lucienne; and siblings Helen, Roy and Joan. Ray was a strong and dedicated family man, married to Barb for forty-nine years. He devoted twenty-five years towards a successful career in the pharmaceutical business before embarking on other entrepreneurial activities. He enjoyed a challenge, and was a master at building lasting business relationships. Ray was actively involved in his community as well as a host of charitable causes. He enjoyed life and the company of those around him. He will be greatly missed by a large number of family and friends. GABORA, Willard Brian January 14, 1959 - September 17, 2008 Willard Brian Gabora of Calgary passed away peacefully after a four year long battle with cancer on September 17, 2008 at the age of 49 years. Willard was born on January 14, 1959 in Yorkton, SK. He loved to fish, even if it meant waking up at 3:00 a.m. in the morning to be the first one on the water. One of Willard's greatest accomplishments was the completion, dedication and commitment of the twelve step program. Willard is survived by his children, Chad (Karin) Gabora, Amie Gabora, and Erin (John) Kluane; grandchildren, Kaylee, Joshua, Jayden and Julian; as well as brothers, Jerry Gabora and Don Gabora. He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mary Gabora and brother, Merv Gabora. LENNON-BRISDON, Mona Hibbit Born September 1, 1904 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Immigrated to Canada in 1924 and resided in Ogden. She rode the streetcar to Calgary daily where she worked for Plunket and Savage as a secretary. She married Felix George Lennon (founder of Renfrew Motors Limited) June 9, 1930 and resided in Rosedale until her move to Wentworth Manor in January 1999. She played pipe organ, served the alter guild, sang in the choir at Saint Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, and was an accomplished pianist. She worked as a volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross for fifty-six years and received awards for her service. She married Bill Brisdon in 1964 and enjoyed music, gardening and travel together. Many years were spent at her cabin at Gull Lake, Alberta. She was predeceased by her daughter Carol in 1956, husband George Lennon in 1961, husband Bill Brisdon in 1974, and great-grandson Justin Nelson Mathieson on August 9, 2008. Lovingly remembered as mother to son Gordon Lennon, wife Ruth of Calgary, and daughter Dorothy McKenna-Leeds of Sandpoint, Idaho, U.S.A. Also remembered as granny to her six grandchildren and spouses as well as eleven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Thank you Bethany Care in Cochrane. MAINLAND, Wendy (Martin) 1957 - 2008 On September 20, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer, Wendy left us. She is survived by her husband John, daughters Charity and Gillian (Jonathon), and son Klym, all of Regina. She is also survived by her parents Garny and Lucille of Calgary, brothers Rick (Donna) of Rosemary, AB, and Larry (Grace) of Irricana, AB. Wendy was born in Calgary on May 13, 1957. She graduated from Lord Beaverbrook High School in 1975 and married her high school sweetheart, John, in 1977. She spent most of her career raising her three cherished children and working in various departments at the Regina Public Library. Although her time was brief, she touched so many, and left a legacy of love and admiration.
