BASHA, Ann (nee O'Connell)- In loving memory of Ann (nee O'Connell) Basha, 97 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Friday August 8th, 2008 at Finlandia Koti, Sudbury. Ann was born in Curling, Newfoundland. She married Joseph Basha in Kirkland Lake. Ann was a devout Roman Catholic who attended St. Patrick's Church and belonged to the parish CWL. Always quick to help others. She had been a cub leader for many years, a member of the Sudbury General Hospital Auxilliary and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Beloved wife of Joseph Basha predeceased 1972. Loving mother of John “Douglas“ Basha (wife Sharon) both predeceased and Margaret (husband David Williams) of London. TOMASINI, Anna Madelena (nee Pagnutti) - In loving memory of Anna Madelena Tomasini (nee Pagnutti), 92 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Friday, August 8th, 2008 at the SRH - St. Joseph's Health Center. Anna was born in Thunder Bay and married Elio Tomasini in Sudbury in 1937. Anna attended St. Patrick's Church and she belonged to the parish CWL. An avid gardener, her green thumb produced beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetables. She was an excellent cook. Anna will be remembered as a very loving and caring person. Beloved wife of Elio Tomasini predeceased 1974. Loving mother of Esther predeceased 1959, Lorraine Burton predeceased 1997 and James (wife Airi) of Sudbury. POIRIER (CARREY), Rita 2008-08-11 Ms. Rita Poirier age 79 years of North Court Street passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with her family by her side after a lengthy illness. Born on June 3, 1929 in Cap De La Madeleine, Quebec, she completed her schooling and worked for many years in Kenogami, Quebec. She moved to Red Rock in 1953 and later moved to Thunder Bay in 1971. Rita was talented at sewing, knitting and crocheting, but her main enjoyment was her family. She will be sadly missed by daughters Lise (Tim Olson) and Yvette (Maurice Bouley), son Charles (Michelle),daughter-in-law Sharon, sisters Monique Pascoe (Wilf), Nicole Savoie, Rev. Sister Liliane and Collette Peltier, brothers Claude (Paulette) and Conrad (Jean). She is also survived by grandchildren, Danielle, Charles, Luc, Andre, Raymond, Kayleen and one great grandchild Ashdin. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Predeceased by son Louis, mother Cecile and father Eugene, sister Simone, brothers Henry and Roger and nephew Gerry. Funeral services for the late Ms. Rita Poirier will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Loyal Order of Moose #947, 434 Fort William Road beginning at 11:00 AM. GARVEY, LILLIAN ESTELLA It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of LILLIAN ESTELLA GARVEY (nee Roberts), widow of the late John Ronald Garvey, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 9th, 2008. Lillian was born in Roberts' Island, Nova Scotia in 1914 to the late Clifton Woods Roberts and Erma (Spinney) Roberts. Lillian will be missed by her son John Richard (Delores) of Fredericton, daughters, Cheryl Davidson of Campbell River, BC and Marilyn (David) Merke of British Columbia, sisters Deborah McInnis, Phyllis (Otty) Glenn and Ruth (Floyd) Murray, nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great grand children, nieces, nephews along with many friends including Gladys Tapley. SUTHERLAND, Bertram April 9, 1933 - August 1, 2008 Bertram Sutherland of St. Vincent and the Grenadines took his place beside his Heavenly Father on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the age of 75 years. Bert was born to Peter Sutherland and Gertrude Sutherland (nee Marks), and was the third of ten children. He began his life in Lowman's Hill, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and then migrated to England where he resided for sixteen years. He then moved to Canada where he eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta with his wife Florence Sutherland (nee Wilson). Being a hard working carpenter, he loved creating and bettering things with his hands. He was a family man that always put the welfare of his family and everyone he knew before himself. Bert leaves behind his son Ronald; his daughters Cheryl and Joanne; and his grandchildren Hanisi and Tymani along with his sisters Lillian, Sylvia, Hyacinth, Metalyn, and Cynthia; along with his brothers Dillion, Ian, and Delbert. SWINEAMER, Patricia Anne “Pat” Patricia Anne “Pat” Swineamer, 71, of Centre Burlington, Hants Co., Nova Scotia, formerly of Charlottetown, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 7, 2008, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, Nova Scotia, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 11, 1937, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, she was the daughter of the late Annie Lillian (Nicholson) MacRae-Cudmore. Pat was a real estate agent in Hants County for over 20 years. She was also the Municipality of the District of West Hants 2008 Representative Volunteer. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harold Thomas Swineamer; her daughters, Cherilyn “Sheri” (Gary) MacIntosh, Lwr. Sackville; Heather (Victor) Foley, Big Valley, Alberta; Karen Swineamer (Wade Caldwell), Windsor; grandchildren, Christopher and Ryan MacIntosh; Jeffrey, Victor and Brittni Foley; Sarah Payzant; great-grandchildren, Kyuss, Joshwa, Brian and Charisma; siblings, Tim (Lottie) MacRae, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Wilma (John) Juurlink, New Glasgow; Donald (Katie) MacRae, Jacksonville, Florida. Keith was born in Edmonton and moved to Calgary at the age of thirteen. He completed the aircraft maintenance program at SAIT and had been working at Kenn Borek Air at the time of his passing. Keith had just purchased his first home and was looking forward to life on his own. He loved spending time with his family and friends, in particular his three young nephews. He was always the first to lend a helping hand and he enriched our lives with his warmth and kindness. Ugo Benedetti March 16, 1926 - August 09, 2008 Gracefully, surrounded by his family at the ICU of McMaster University Medical Centre at 82 from complications after breaking his hip. The son of Giuseppe Benedetti and Dina Bin, Ugo was born in Godega San Urbano, Treviso, Italy. He is predeceased by his older sister Maria Rosa Rigato and survived by his twin sister Anita DeZan of Conegliano, Treviso. Beloved husband of 55 years (and one day) of Mary (nee Carpani) and loving father to Joseph (Gabriella), Paul (Marni Flaherty), Rosanne Cascella (Joe), Paula Luck (Derrick), and Robert (Anne). Doting grandfather of 14 grand- children: Mary, John Ugo, and Daniela, James, Matthew and Ella, Mark, Anthony and Alisa, Alexandra and Brendan, Leah, Adrian, and Christian. Predeceased by in-laws Renzo Rigato, Piero DeZan, Jane and Ernest Caravaggio, Domenic Carpani, Vera and Gus Borsellino, and John Legge. Survived by in-laws Mary Carpani, Joe and Louise Carpani and Toni Legge. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and by his nephews Toni, his namesake Ugo and Fabio DeZan of Conegliano, Italy. Ugo emigrated in 1948 to Hamilton where he got a job at International Harvester and began taking English classes at night. In 1950, he was hired by Ontario Furniture on James Street North where he sold furniture and appliances to many newly-arrived Italian families. Equally comfortable in Italian and English, he took his sales skills to Finocchio and Cupido Real Estate where he worked from 1961 to 1967. Ugo was actively involved in the Italian community in Hamilton, particularly in soccer where he served as President and Secretary of the Italo-Canadian Soccer Club for 10 years. He was one of the first importers of authentic Italian soccer uniforms and equipment. He served as a Director of the Dante Alighieri Cultural Society. Ugo was also a regular contributor to CHML Radio, doing news and cultural commentary in Italian. During this period, he was active in the Liberal Party of Canada and a strong supporter and lifelong friend of former Hamilton-East MP and Cabinet Minister John Munro. In 1967, he was Chairman of the Hamilton Centennial Committee which coordinated the city's celebrations marking Canada's 100th birthday. Later that year, he was awarded the Centennial Medal "in recognition of valuable service to the nation." In 1967, Ugo was appointed a Judge to the newly-created Immigration Appeal Board of Canada and relocated to Ottawa. Three years later, he returned his family to Hamilton and continued to serve on the Toronto branch of the Board. He served as Interim-Board Chairman for many years and retired after 21 years in 1988. He was known for his compassionate and well-reasoned judgments. On June 10, 1989 he was awarded the Diploma di Benemerenza con Medaglia D'Oro by the Camera di Commercio Industria Artigianato Agricoltura Treviso. He also received a Diplma di Benemerenza, from the regional government of Veneto in March, 1991. Although accomplished, he put little stock in his awards or titles, but took far greater pleasure in family, and friends and in helping immigrants succeed in Canada, the country he truly adopted as his own. The family would like to thank Angela Goh and Danuta Warembier and the staff of McMaster Hospital for their support and care. MOREAU, Charles 2008-08-11 Mr. Charles Morneau, age 75 years, died of a stroke on March 2, 2008. As a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Charlie’s generosity, kindness, humor, and playfulness will be missed but not forgotten. LANCTOT, Jeannette Marie (nee Barbeau) - Resident of Hastings Manor, Belleville and previously of Ottawa and Cobourg, peacefully at Belleville General hospital on Sunday August 10th, 2008. She will be sadly missed by her daughters Claudette Kelly (Tony) of Belleville and Suzanne Lanctot (Sam Oliver) of Cobourg and her daughter-in-law Sheila Lanctot (Mike Cadeau) of Smithville. Jeannette is pre-deceased by her husband Roland and her beloved son John. She is also pre- deceased by her parents and six brothers and sisters. She is the last of her family and will be greatly missed. Jeannette is also survived by her grandchildren Linda MacDonald (Jeff), Michael Kelly (Kate), David Kelly (B.J.), Kathy Kelly, Michelle Kelly, Patrick Lanctot and Cindy Doherty (Mike). She also leaves behind eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In her younger years she was a translator for the Federal Government and in her spare time enjoyed playing the piano, painting and sewing.
