McMURTRIE, James “Jiggs” - Peacefully passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 86. Survived by his daughters Cynthia (David) Durward and Elaine (Bob) Smart and their mother Barbara McMurtrie. Loving grandfather of Andrea (Daryle) Eastman and Gregory Smart. Jiggs was a member for many years with the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 51, a member of the original Houck Ball Team, an avid golfer with a membership for 50 years with Oaklands Golf Club. Catherine grew up in Scotland and lived in South Africa before coming to Canada, living in Montreal, Saint John, NB, and St. Marys, ON. SAVOY, ALMER JOSEPH "MERL"- passed away on Saturday December 8th, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 74. Born in Newcastle N.B. on February 9th, 1933. He was predeceased by his step father, William Mallet and Margaret (Malley) Mallet. Almer is survived by his dear companion, Dianne Thibodeau, three sons, Armand Savoy of Ontario, Billy Savoy of Ontario and Danny Savoy of Calgary, a daughter, Loranda of Texas, one brother, Weldon Savoy of Toronto, a sister Hazel Guthro also of Toronto and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He worked as an electrician with Arctic Transportation; he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking, nature and animals. HODGSON, DONALD WILLIAM - Donald Hodgson passed away peacefully at home in North Vancouver on December 8, 2007. He was born November 19, 1934 in Saint John, New Brunswick, the son of the late T. Clifford and Clara Hodgson. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his daughters, Valerie and Melissa; his son, Andrew (Kally); grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor and Jade; siblings, Irene Livingston, John (Nadia), Janet (George) Hazen, Arthur (Michelle) and June (Wayne) Bennett. He was predeceased by his brother, Rae. Many students in West Vancouver (Hillside, West Van High), New Brunswick, Quebec and the Canadian Air Force Base in Grostenquin, France were inspired by Mr. Hodgson as their teacher and mentor throughout his 40-year career in education. During his lifetime he enjoyed extensive travel throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Donald will be remembered for his quick wit, acerbic sense of humor, love and knowledge of gardening (Hostas, Dahlias), golf, photography, wine making, photo editing, sports and sports trivia, Latin and the Classics, literature and a wide variety of music and cinema. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 2 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church at 220 West 8th Street in North Vancouver. Born in Saint John, NB., she was a daughter of Darrell Sheffar and Elaine (MacDonald) Atkinson. Trudy, with 23 years service in the Canadian Forces, served in the Middle East, Golan Heights in 1990-1991 out of CFB Cornwallis where she met her husband Burt and a tour in Bosnia-Herzegovina with 2 Royal Canadian Regiment, CFB Gagetown. She did an adventure training trip in Cameroon, Africa, where she assisted in putting water lines into nearby villages. She was a very ambitious woman who enjoyed helping people, loved her friends and loved life. Trudy is survived by her husband Burton Frame; son Jeffrey; daughter Courtney; stepmother Irene Sheffar; brother Mark Sheffar and wife Jodi; nephews, Adean, Benjamin; brother Stephen Sheffar and wife Brenda; nephews Degan and Chase; many aunts, uncles, sisters in-law, brothers in-law; nieces and nephews and cousins; maternal grandmother Jean Atkinson. PRATT, Thomas Elliott - After a long battle with Lung Cancer, Tom peacefully passed away on Sunday the 9th of December 2007. A Life member with over 45 years of service with the Lakefield Legion Branch #77 (the best little legion by a Dam Site), he proudly served his country in both the R.C.N. and C.F. for 28 years. Tom is survived by his loving wife and best friend Louise Pratt (Anderson); their children, Sheri Crang and husband Jim of Shilo, Manitoba, and his son, Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Bill Pratt and wife Nancy in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Grandfather of Jessica and Jimmi Crang, and Guy and Andre Pratt, he will always be remembered as her favorite Son-In-Law by Ireene Turcotte. Brother of Robert and Janet Pratt of Langley, BC, and Sister Carolyn and Bob Fluery of Cobourg, Ontario. At Tom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a proper Memorial service will be held later in the spring at the Lakefield Legion. FRAMPTON, Patricia Lee - With extreme sorrow we are trying to come to terms with the sudden death of Lee after a short battle with cancer. Lee passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at the North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site on Saturday December 8, 2007. Lee was born in Vancouver, B.C. on October 18, 1945. Lee and her husband Barry rejoiced in 42 years of marriage. Lee was predeceased by her father Robert Scanlon in March 2002 and her brother Michael on December 7, 2007. Lee will be mourned by her mother Cecelia Marie and sisters Gail (Bryan Jamieson) and Liz (John Maric), niece Megan, nephew little Mike and niece Lisa Beach and children Jessica and Matt. Brother-in-law Dick ( Jackie) Frampton and their son Denny (Grace). Lee worked as a secretary for the Bank of Nova Scotia, Longyear and Northern Frontier Insurance until her retirement in 2003. The friendships Lee formed during this time became special and lasting. To Lee her sole purpose in life was her devotion to family and friends, their health and well being paramount. Special thanks go out to Dr Carter and the special nursing staff on floor 3E, Palliative Care Unit . Their professionalism and compassion helped Lee and her family through a difficult period. STEWART, VIOLA JENNIE The passing of Viola Jennie Stewart, of Fredericton, NB, wife of Robert Stewart, occurred on December 7, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on March 17, 1929 in McNamee, NB, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (O'Donnell) Miner. Jennie was a member of All Saint's Anglican Church, Marysville and was active with the ACW. In addition to her husband, Jennie is survived by four sons, James (Judy), Kenny (Linda), Randy (Betty) and Rickey (Dawn); four daughters, Wenda Lyons (Dale), Sheila O'Hara (Michael), Karen Seymour (Sidney) and Kim Worton (Dan); one brother, Ernest (Brenda); nine sisters, Georgina Price, Catherine Schaufele, Mae McGilligan, Inez Sutherland (Lloyd), Shirley Mantha, Eileen Storey, Elma Duder (Al), Ruthene Storey (Winston) and Diana Sherwood (Paul); 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Isabel Stewart; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-inlaw and sisters-inlaw. AUCLAIRE, Jules Frère Le Frère Jules Auclaire, missionnaire Oblat de Marie-Immaculée, est décédé à Richelieu, le 7 décembre 2007 à l'âge de 91 ans. Né à Durham-Sud, il est le fils de Joseph-Edmond Auclaire et de Mathilde Fournier, décédés. Il fit ses premiers voeux le 15 août 1936. Il a oeuvré dans divers postes, particulièrement à la construction de missions oblates, églises et école. En plus de sa famille religieuse, il laisse dans le deuil une belle-soeur Jacqueline Dallaire (feu Élie Auclaire) et un beau-frère Marcel Bélanger (feu Monique Auclaire, des neveux et nièces, cousins et cousines et de nombreux amis. Le corps du défunt sera exposé chez les: MISSIONNAIRES OBLATS, 460,1e RUE, RICHELIEU, le lundi 10 décembre 2007, de 19 heures à 21 heures (prière communautaire à 19 h 30). Dear grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
