RICE, Kevin D - December 6, 1958 On November 8, 2007, at 8:59 a.m., after a long battle with liver disease, Kevin died peacefully at Toronto General Hospital, in his 49th year, with his family by his side. survived by beloved spouse Kelly Susan Bridget Gordon, loving and supportive mother Sheila Cameron Rice. Will be fondly remembered by brothers Stuart and his wife Theresa; Greg and Laura; Ron and Lynn, as well as brothers-in-law Colin and his wife Karen Gordon and Graham Gordon and mother-in-law Jean Gordon. GEIGER Kathy Kathryn Mae (Nee Rebman) - 1938-2007 - The family announces with great sorrow after a brave battle with cancer, Kathy's passing at Timmins & District Hospital on Sunday, November 18th, 2007 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side, at the age of 69 years. Loving mother of Lorri (Mrs. Vince Lemieux). Loving grammy to Devin Lemieux and Joey Lemieux. Predeceased by her husband Gary Geiger '78, sister Marg Waynor '91, brothers-in-law Roy Waynor '95 and Art Waynor '89, nephew Phil Waynor '96, her mother Hazel Rebman (Nee Miles) '78, and father Russ Rebman in '58. Kathy was born and raised on the Pamour Mine property. She was a secretary at Pamour Mines for a number of years and enjoyed curling at the Pamour Curling Club. Kathy will best be remembered for her love of her family, friends, crafts, sports, movies and birds. After all is said and done, the only thing that matters is love. Lillian was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1949 where her family settled on a beet farm near Taber, Alberta. She worked many years as a school bus driver in the city of Calgary before retiring. Lillian enjoyed gardening, reading, collecting recipes and spending time with friends and family. LAFFAN, Sister Mary Jo March 4, 1921 - November 18, 2007 Sister Mary Jo Laffan died peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2007 surrounded by her FCJ Sisters at the age of 86 years. Mary Jo was born in County Limerick, Ireland to Bartholomew and Josephine Laffan. On February 2, 1941 she entered the Society of the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus in Broadstairs, Kent, England. After her religious profession she studied at the National University of Ireland, Dublin, and received her B.A. Degree and Higher Diploma in Education. Mary Jo first came to Canada in 1948 and taught for six years in Combermere, ON, and for three years at the St. Mary's Girls' High School in Calgary. She then returned to Ireland where she taught and administered in FCJ Schools for twenty-nine years. Upon her retirement from teaching in 1996, Mary Jo returned to Calgary and was a well-known and much loved presence at the FCJ Christian Life Centre for eleven years, ministering tirelessly in Spiritual Direction, Retreats, and Hospitality. Mary Jo is survived by her sisters, Helen Bermingham and Jeanne Laffan and by her brother Jim, all of Ireland; her sister Dolores Nichol of California; and by several nieces and nephews, her many friends, and by all of her FCJ Sisters. TAYLOR, Forbes October 8, 1932 - November 17, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and grandfather following a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Bernice (nee Saretsky); sons Tim of Barrie, ON and Russ of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Darrell and Malcolm of Barrie, ON and Melissa and Christa of Calgary, AB and their mother, Marg; Tim's partner Jo-Anne and her children Sarah, Melissa and Wade. Delmar "Sugar" Charles Young July 09, 1977 - November 17, 2007 Tragically on November 17, 2007, two little boys lost the center of their world. Delmar was born on July 9, 1977 in Winnipeg and went to a better place. There to greet him are his loving father, Delmar Kennedy; his grandparents, Isabelle and Charles Young, Christina and Napoleon Kennedy. He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his mother, Yvonne Young, and stepfather, Norman Berens; wife Andrea Asham; children, Ethan, Noah, Kammi and Lyle; the brother he loved and respected, Jason (Phoebi); his sisters, Naomi (Tony), Raven (Tim), Robin (Eric), Rebecca (Howie) and Isabelle. His mother-in-law, Ellen (Barry) and father-in-law, Gilbert (Sherilyn), and grandmother-in-law, Bertha Whitford and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Sugar was an amazing father who lived for his children, they were everything to him. He loved to spend time with his family, play cards, guitar, and playstation. He had an awesome sense of humour with a million jokes and loved to laugh and tease. He loved family gatherings and helping prepare food for our get togethers. He had many goals in life and before his death, he was attending Red River College in the Introduction to Trades and preparing to enter the Carpentry/Woodworking course in January, his goal was the eventually own his own home renovating business. He was funny, crazy, smart, loving and will be missed desperately. We loved him in life and will continue to cherish his memory. We were lucky to have him a part of our lives, even for a short time, Noah and Ethan were lucky to have the best Dad in the entire world. KOWCH, Russell 1933 - 2007 In the loving arms of his family, Russell Kowch passed away peacefully at the Agape Manor Hospice, on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the age of 74 years. Russ' fight with cancer was long, yet hopeful. He remained strong and determined to the end. Kate came to Canada in 1955 and settled in Garson until recently. Among her many interests she had enjoyed ballroom dancing back in England where she and George had won numerous awards, as well as blueberry picking and knitting for the Mary Marg Shop. She spent many years living in Florida and Mexico with Gerry. In later years she loved to spend time at the Red Lodge Resort on beautiful Lake Manitou with her loving family. STARKEY, Kenneth Douglas. August 23, 1918 - November 14, 2007. Peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 in his eighty-ninth year. Beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Harvey). Loved father of Ken (Kathy), Greg (Patricia) and Jeff (June). Proud and loving grandfather of Andrew, Jennie, Jessica, Joshua, Cory and proud new step-grandfather of Pamela and Dan. Dear brother of Frances and predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Norman and sister Evelyn. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Margaret (Peg) Starkey of Montreal and his many nephews and nieces, business colleagues and friends. A retired life-long employee of Consumers Glass Co., Ken enlisted as a Signalman in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1940 during WW II and served in the United Kingdom, Italy and North-West Europe until he was demobilized in 1945. It was during this time that he met his wife Evelyn Blanche with them being married at St. Martins in the Fields. After his retirement, Ken and Evelyn divided their time travelling throughout the world as well as spending summers at their cottage at Selby Lake, Quebec. At Ken's request, cremation has already taken place and a private internment will take place later in Dunham, Quebec. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or memorial donations to The Church of the Epiphany, Bronte. SEAR, MARION IRENE - Marion Irene Sear formerly of Penobsquis, NB passed away peacefully on November 18, 2007 with all her children at her side at Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB. Marion was born on February 26, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Nettie (Munroe) Carr. She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton who passed away on June 15, 2005; her brother, Cedric and her sister, Burdella. Marion is survived by sons, Bill of Penobsquis and Rick and his wife, Mary Ellen of Picadilly; by daughters, Patricia and her husband, Wayne Ferris of Sussex and Sharon of Sussex; by her sister, Beatrice Lawrence of Hamilton, Ontario; by eleven grandchildren, Jim, Jennifer, Patrick, Pam, Krista, Michael, Sarah, Nicole, Beau, Georgia, and Laurel; and by one great grandchild, Summer. When living in Penobsquis Marion was active in her church and community. She served many years as treasurer of the United Baptist Church and was a life member of the Women's Institute. Marion was very adept with her hands whether it was with a quilting needle and thimble or a golf club. She was a past ladies club champion at the Sussex Golf Club. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Tuesday 2 - 4, and 7 - 9 pm. PEACOCK, JULIA CATHERINE - The death of Julia Catherine Peacock, loving wife of Larry Peacock of Hampton, occurred on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Julia worked as a Rural Route Carrier for Canada Post for 28 years. Born 1943 in Carman, Manitoba she was only child of the late Peter and Mary (Johnson) Klassen. Besides her loving husband, Larry, she is survived by her sons, Edward Peacock (Elaine) of Winnipeg, MB and David Peacock of Hampton. The family would like to express a special thank to the Lions Club of Hampton, Cindi Estey, Nancy Fraser and Lynn Chatterton for their love and support. Marion Veronica Sloan 1918 - 2007 Marion Veronica Sloan, widow of Bernard (Barney) Sloan, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at The Moncton Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Montreal, Quebec on April 2nd, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Wyndham and Annie (Lunny) Howell. She is survived by her four children, Rev Bernard John Sloan and Carol (Tim) Sullivan all of Riverview, Susan Payne of Fredericton and Michael (Theresa) Sloan of Halifax; nine grandchildren, Stephen and Jennifer Payne, Kelly (Jack), Sean and Katie Sullivan, Stacey (Paul), Rodney (Karen), Adam and Tyler Sloan; and one great granddaughter, Emma. As co-founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Augustine's Church she devoted herself in many ways to assisting the needy and less fortunate in the greater Moncton area. For many years she actively participated in the CWL at both St. Augustine's and St Bernard's parishes; she was a 50 year member of the CWL. She loved life, her summers in St Thomas at the cottage and sharing her good fortune with family and friends. Her courage, kindness and strong faith will serve as an example for all who knew her. She will be sadly missed. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son in law, John Payne. Resting at Cadman Bowness Funeral Home (857-1110) 114 Alma Street with visiting hours on Monday from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. IREDALE, Norman 7 novembre 1919 - 16 novembre 2007 C'est avec une très grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès, ce vendredi 16 novembre 2007 à l'âge de 88 ans, de notre bien-aimé mari, père, grand-père et frère, Norman Ridley. Il est né et a grandi à Calgary (Alberta). Il a servi dans les RCAF de 1941 à 1946. Après avoir complété son service militaire, il a étudié à l'université de Queen où il a obtenu un diplôme en administration des affaires ainsi qu'à l'université de la Colombie-Britannique où il a obtenu son diplôme en droit en 1951. Norman a été admis au Barreau de la Colombie-Britannique où il a pratiqué brièvement et à celui de l'Alberta jusqu'en 1975, attitré au Conseil de la Reine en 1970. Il était franc-maçon et membre des Shriners. Il adorait la lecture, la pêche, la chasse et sa maison de campagne à Windermere. Norman laisse dans le deuil son épouse adorée depuis 61 ans, Aline; ses quatre enfants John (Patti), Don (Nina), Micheline Stainton (Tim) et Geoff; neuf petits-enfants Cammie, Scott, Jen, Lindsay, Greg, Jaime, Christine, Connor et Mackenzie ainsi que son arrière-petite-fille Maddie. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil son frère Bob et sa soeur Evelyn Mckee. Norman a été précédé dans la mort par son frère Gordon.
