IVANSKA, Tillie. 1920-2007. In Montreal, on November 4, 2007 at the age of eighty-seven years, passed away Mrs Tillie Ivanska. She leaves to mourn her brother Gerry (Elsie), sisters-in-law Mary and Alice; predeceased by her sisters and brothers Annie, Julie, Bill, Peter and Joe as well as her sister-in-law Sylvia; she was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews, and also leaves behind other family members and friends. Fought an incredible 3 1/2 year battle with two primary cancers and the medical system. Wife of the late Bernardas Juras. Mother of Vijoleta Juras Doell, Danny Juras and Dr. Audrey Juras. Grandmother to Dr. Donald Doell Jr , Elliott & Eden Kobelansky. Mother in law to Dr. Donald Doell Sr. and Allan Kobelansky. Your family and flowers will miss you so much. The family wishes to express deepest appreciation to all those who listened attentively and fulfilled their roles with responsibility and kindness. We remember and acknowledge many nurses, orderlies, housekeepers, blood technicians and other support staff at SMH who synergistically worked together with the compassion and team spirit of a bygone time. We thank the nurses in oncology at the RVH where Violeta began this journey, and the nurses at the CLSC Vieux Lachine who followed her closely and supported her well. Special thanks to Anne-Andree Coursol, a truly outstanding nurse, and to those at the JGH who made Violeta's most recent treatments possible. Immeasurable respect and neverending gratitude to Drs. Jack and Shirley Sheridan SHEDIAC, NB - With great sadness, we announce the death of our parents, who died as a result of a car accident in Nova Scotia on Friday, November 2, 2007. Born in Campbellton, N.B., June 4, 1937, our mother, Shirley Joan, was the daughter of the late Marcus and Beatrice (Targett) Bateman. Our father, John (Jack) Wesley, was born December 9, 1937 in Pointe du Chene, N.B., the son of the late Frank and Dora (McFadden) Sheridan. Survived by daughter, Pamela Jay and her partner, Dave Blakney of Moncton; and sons, Wesley John and his wife, Sandra of Malpeque, P.E.I, and Marcus Alexander (Sandy) and his wife, Nancy of Riverview. They also leave their eight grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jacquie) and Eryn Weldon, Jonathan, Megan and Kelly Sheridan, Cailin, Brendan and Kathleen (Katie) Sheridan. Shirley is also survived by her sister, Betty McKaigue and her husband, Ken of Annapolis Royal, N.S.; and their four children, Wendy, Tanya, Shaun and Kevin. Jack is also survived by one brother, Donald of Truro; and a sister, Julie Turner of Annapolis Royal and her two children, Jennifer and Jeffrey. Jack was predeceased by a brother, Frank; and a sister, Pauline and her husband, Charles Gentles; and a brother-in-law, Jack Turner. Our parents were married on July 5, 1957. Most of Jack's working life was spent in the fishing industry, as a buyer, plant manager and owner in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Maine. Shirley worked as his office manager and accountant. She was his partner in all of his enterprises. Our parents lived for their family and their community. During their 50 years together, they were leaders in Cub Scouts, Girl Guides, Shediac Minor Baseball, Shediac Minor Hockey, St. Martins-in-the-Woods Sunday School, Shediac Cape Home and School Association and the Shediac Cape School Breakfast Program. They gave tirelessly of their time to charitable organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Mental Health, The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Shediac area Meals on Wheels program. While living in Maine and Prince Edward Island, our parents made many good friends and contributed to community life there as well. Our father will be remembered for his enthusiastic support of young people in sports, his competitive spirit and his overall joie du vie. Our mother will be remembered for her sense of fun, her support of teachers and her generous kitchen. Together they shared a passion for crossword puzzles, vigorous walks and picnics at Parlee Beach. Our fondest memory will be of our family gathered together sharing food and laughter. As their children, the greatest gift they gave us is each other. O'CONNOR, Mary Catherine Leo The O'Connor family regrets to announce the death of Mary Catherine Leo O'Connor at the Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, November 3rd, 2007. Mary was born June 2, 1916 in Gananoque, Ontario and was predeceased by her parents Dr. Fergus J. O'Connor Sr. and Frances Keating, and her seven siblings: Norah (Milton Laughland), Margaret (Allan Doherty), Maurice (Jean Davidson), Eileen (C. William McDougall), Fergus J. Jr. (Connie Davidson and later Jean Davidson O'Connor), Frances “Pat“ and Sheila. She was predeceased by her nieces and nephews: John Laughland, Jane McDougall Lanthier, Mary O'Connor Kaiser, Paul O'Connor, Nancy Doherty Taylor, Charles McDougall, Connie O'Connor, Maurice O' Connor Jr. Mary was educated at Notre Dome Convent in Kingston and graduated from Queen's University in 1938 with Honours. She then obtained an advanced degree in Library Science from the University of Toronto. Mary initially worked as a librarian at The Nylon Plant in Kingston and later at the U. of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Subsequently she joined The National Defence College and The Canadian Army Staff College. She was the Chief Librarian for many years up to her retirement in 1978. During her time with the College she travelled with the various Defence College courses to over 72 countries and met many world leaders in the course of her official duties. Mary was a member of the Cataraqui Golf and Curling Club, the Newman Club Alumni Association at Queen's University and the Board of Directors of the Kingston Library. She served on the Board of Directors of the Hotel Dieu Hospital and was their liaison to the Kingston General Hospital Board. Mary will be missed by her many nieces and nephews: Norah's family: Jim, Bill, Milton and Margaret Brennan; Margaret's family: Sheila Carriere, Ellen Schaffeler, Ann Ross, Margaret, Allan and Christopher; Maurice's family: Fergus, Brenda Murphy and Maureen Allin; Eileen's family: Susan Gagnon Gingras and Deborah Fischer; Fergus' family: Michael, Fergus (Chip), and Patrick. Mary will also be mourned by all of the spouses and her nieces and nephews living and deceased, and by their children. Family was always important to Mary and as her family we remembered the aunt who provided many of us with the opportunity to spend wonderful summer vacations surrounded by family. She made available to us her second cottage, “Secundus“ at Lost Bay on the Gananoque River where we were able to take our children to spend time with their aunts and uncles and cousins, thus fostering in them a keener sense of the greater family to which they belong. For this and many other things we will always be grateful. May God grant her peace. Maurice, aged 67, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, November 2, 2007, surrounded by his family. GRATTON, Kathleen June (nee) Mayes - Peacefully passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on Saturday November 3, 2007. Predeceased by her husband the late John Elgin Gratton (1966). McCLELLAND, John Orval (Guy) - It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear husband, father and Bampa, Guy McClelland, on Sunday, November 4th, 2007 at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Sudbury at the age of 82. Guy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice (nee Johnston), and his daughters; Karen Wall of Winnipeg and Kathy Wierzbicki (husband Ed) of Sudbury. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren; Jason (wife Jacqueline) of Winnipeg, Kyle (partner Erin) of Toronto, Jessica of Winnipeg, and Logan (partner Sam) of Sudbury. Guy also leaves to cherish his memory his sister Gloria Coons of Maitland and his brother Lowell of Beachburg. Guy was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Sarah (nee McGonegal) McClelland; brothers Veldon and Daryl; and sister Zeta Fisher. Guy was born at home on the family farm in Beachburg, Ontario on December 19, 1924, the fourth of six children. Guy's childhood was filled with the normal activities of a boy growing up on a farm in Ottawa Valley. His elementary school years were spent in a little one-room schoolhouse just down the road from the family farm. His high school years were at the Beachburg Continuation School. At the age of 18, Guy met a beautiful young woman named Alice Johnston, who became the love of his life for 66 years. Like most young men of his time, Guy longed to serve his country in WWII, and so at the age of 18 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war Guy returned to Beachburg and in 1946 he and Alice were married. Following the lure of good jobs in the mining industry, Guy and his family moved to Sudbury in 1950. Guy began a career with Falconbridge Nickel Mines that spanned over 35 years, beginning as a labourer in 1950 and retiring as the general foreman of the Strathcona Mill in 1986. In later years Guy and Alice enjoyed some wonderful trips to places like Hawaii, Florida and Venezuela. When the grandchildren arrived though, Bampa was happiest at family gatherings around the pool, where he was always in charge of the BBQ. Guy was an active member of St. Stephen's-on-the-Hill United Church from the church's inception, and a loyal member of Branch 76 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Although Guy's last few years were fraught with health problems, he was a fighter to the end and never lost his sense of humour. For several years following his heart surgery in 1996, Guy and Alice were active members of Sudbury's Mended Hearts group, making hospital visits and helping others undergoing the stress of heart surgery. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on Special Care Unit 5A at St. Joseph's Health Centre for the wonderful care they gave Guy in his final days. Guy is now at peace, and we know that the first time someone in the hereafter asks him how he's feeling, he's going to say Oh...pretty good. Funeral Service in the R.J. Jack and Shirley Sheridan SHEDIAC, NB - With great sadness, we announce the death of our parents, who died as a result of a car accident in Nova Scotia on Friday, November 2, 2007. Born in Campbellton, N.B., June 4, 1937, our mother, Shirley Joan, was the daughter of the late Marcus and Beatrice (Targett) Bateman. Our father, John (Jack) Wesley, was born December 9, 1937 in Pointe du Chene, N.B., the son of the late Frank and Dora (McFadden) Sheridan. Survived by daughter, Pamela Jay and her partner, Dave Blakney of Moncton; and sons, Wesley John and his wife, Sandra of Malpeque, P.E.I, and Marcus Alexander (Sandy) and his wife, Nancy of Riverview. They also leave their eight grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jacquie) and Eryn Weldon, Jonathan, Megan and Kelly Sheridan, Cailin, Brendan and Kathleen (Katie) Sheridan. Shirley is also survived by her sister, Betty McKaigue and her husband, Ken of Annapolis Royal, N.S.; and their four children, Wendy, Tanya, Shaun and Kevin. Jack is also survived by one brother, Donald of Truro; and a sister, Julie Turner of Annapolis Royal and her two children, Jennifer and Jeffrey. Jack was predeceased by a brother, Frank; and a sister, Pauline and her husband, Charles Gentles; and a brother-in-law, Jack Turner. Our parents were married on July 5, 1957. Most of Jack's working life was spent in the fishing industry, as a buyer, plant manager and owner in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Maine. Shirley worked as his office manager and accountant. She was his partner in all of his enterprises. Our parents lived for their family and their community. During their 50 years together, they were leaders in Cub Scouts, Girl Guides, Shediac Minor Baseball, Shediac Minor Hockey, St. Martins-in-the-Woods Sunday School, Shediac Cape Home and School Association and the Shediac Cape School Breakfast Program. They gave tirelessly of their time to charitable organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Mental Health, The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Shediac area Meals on Wheels program. While living in Maine and Prince Edward Island, our parents made many good friends and contributed to community life there as well. Our father will be remembered for his enthusiastic support of young people in sports, his competitive spirit and his overall joie du vie. Our mother will be remembered for her sense of fun, her support of teachers and her generous kitchen. Together they shared a passion for crossword puzzles, vigorous walks and picnics at Parlee Beach. Our fondest memory will be of our family gathered together sharing food and laughter. As their children, the greatest gift they gave us is each other. McCRAE, Armour Livingstone - Mayor, City of Welland, Ontario 1953-58 Passed away, on Saturday November 3, 2007, at Toronto, in his 91 year. Armour is survived by his beloved wife Heather (nee Montgomery), and his two loving sons and their families: Armour and Eydie McCrae of Guelph and grand-daughter Cara (Mike); James McCrae of Barrie, daughter-in-law Brooke McCrae and grandson Jamie of Brampton; and by his two loving daughters and their families: Wendy and Bruce Dunning of Newmarket and grand-daughters Abbey and Rebecca; and Donna Creighton of Toronto; and by his daughter-in-law Margaret McCrae and grand-daughter Jessica. Predeceased by his cherished first wife Jessie King (Mains) McCrae, and by his son Nichol. Son of the late Nichol and Emily McCrae of Welland, dear brother of Margaret McCrae Moro and Rudy Moro of London. Predeceased by brothers Alex, James and Charles. Of all positions aspired to or later achieved, being Mayor of the City of Welland was always first and foremost in his heart, and the one for which he wishes most to be remembered. Elected President of the then Association of Ontario Mayors and Reeves 1956-57. In 1958, as Mayor he presided over the centennial celebrations of the city, and in that same year was the first to be honoured in receiving the Citizen of the Year Award for Welland-Crowland. He was invited by the Queen to attend her Coronation at Westminster Abbey, and was the recipient of the coronation medal. A well-known after-dinner and convention speaker, he addressed the British Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Belfast, Ireland in 1953. On two occasions he was the speaker representing Canada (France and the United States also being represented) at the Annual Flag Day Celebration at Old Fort Niagara, Youngstown, NY, USA. Armour always promoted a better understanding between English and French-speaking Canada, and to that end, was instrumental in “twinning“ the city of Welland with the Québec city of Sorel. Member and Vice-Chairman of the Ontario Municipal Board 1958-83; seconded from the Board to be Chief Hearing Officer for the Parkway Belt West hearings in 1976, and seconded again to be Chief Hearing Officer for the Niagara Escarpment Plan hearings from 1980-83. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. KANE FUNERAL HOME (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). MacNEILL, Jacqueline “Marcelle“ (nee Dionne) - In loving memory of Jacqueline “Marcelle“ MacNeill (nee Dionne), 91 years. The family announces with sadness, the passing of Marcelle, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother on Saturday morning, November 3rd, 2007 at the SRH - St. Joseph's Health Centre. Marcelle was born in Field Ontario, brought up and educated in Sudbury and was a resident of Levack for 63 years. She was a devout member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church. In her younger days Marcelle was a lay-reader and minister of communion to the sick and shut-ins. Our Mum was a chartered member of the C.W.L. and of the Order of Royal Purple, a long time member of the Onaping Falls Golden Age Club. Her greatest hobbies were gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, walking and catering to birds, especially hummingbirds. She leaves behind daughter Carole Anne Priddle (Ross), daughter-in-law Judy (Kent predeceased), Raymond (Yvonne), Bill (Roberta) and Kevin. MacDONALD, Donald Hugh - Died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, on November 2nd, 2007. Son of the late Hugh Mackay and Iernis (Bradley) of Oshawa, and dear brother of the late John and his wife Delphine. Born June 15, 1922 in Oshawa, Don attended North Simcoe Street Public School and Oshawa Collegiate and Vocational Institute, and earned degrees from the University of Toronto School of Engineering (BASc), Cornell University (MRP), Imperial College of Science and Technology (DIC), University of London (PhD). As a young engineer, Don worked for the TTC on the design and construction of the Yonge Street subway. Upon his return from studies in London in 1955, he joined H.G. Acres & Co., Ltd., subsequently Acres International, where he worked in a number of different positions until 1989. He was the recipient of The Professional Engineers Gold Medal (Assoc. of Prof. Engineers of the Province of Ontario) and the R.F. Legget Award (The Cdn. Geotechnical Soc. of the Engineering Institute of Canada); and he was a member of the Hall of Distinction of the Engineering Alumni of the University of Toronto. Don's personal commitments included meaningful affiliations with Wycliffe College, Shaw Festival Theatre, Niagara College, The Arthritis Society, and St. Mark's Anglican Church in Niagara-on-the- Lake. Beloved husband of Barbara (Barrett), beloved father of the late Brian, and of Katy and her husband Ayad Alsinawi, and Neil. Adored granddad of Junia and Theo. Epouse de feu Télesphore Janveau (décédé en 1983). Profondément regrettée par ses enfants Lionel (Rachel) de Sudbury, Laurent “Larry“ (Claudette) de Hanmer, Conrad (Betty) d'Estaire, Roger (Donna) de Beamsville, Jeannette (Norm Collin) de Hanmer, Claire Ruppel de Lively, Rose-Marie (Brian McCormick) de Hamilton et Patricia de Lively. Grand-mère bien- aimée de 18 petits-enfants, 20 arrière petits-enfants et 5 arrière petits-enfants. Prédécédée par ses parents Lionel et Cécile (Fontaine) Racicot et par ses frères et soeurs; Léo, Marcel, Henri, Conrad, Alice, Margaret et Stella. Affectueusement dans les pensées de plusieurs nièces et neveux. Mariette est née à Estaire, Ontario. Elle épousa Télesphore Janveau en 1938 à Estaire. Résidente de la région de Sudbury pendant plusieurs années, elle travailla comme chef de cuisine pour une variété de restaurants pendant 25 années, retraitée en 1990. Mariette jouissait énormement la vie de jour en jour. Active dans plusieurs fonctions, ses grands plaisirs étaient le jeu de billard, le bingo et le voyage. Une toute- devouée à sa famille, tous ceux qui l'ont connu garderont d'elle un souvenir chaleureux. Un merci spécial d'adresse au personnel de la Villa St. Joseph pour les soins prodigués. RICHARD, ELIE JOSEPH - passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 3rd, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 85. Born in Acadiaville N.B. on April 6th, 1922. He was the son of the late Joseph Richard and Edmee (Johnson). Survived by his wife, Rita (Belliveau) Richard; three sons, Leo (Joanne) Richard of Halifax, NS, John (Theresa) Richard of Saint John and Donald (Debra) Richard of Rothesay; two daughters, Jeannette of Saint John and Helen (Richard) McKinnon of Quispamsis; twelve grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Cyrille (Rina) Richard, Claude (Marie) Richard both of Gardiner Mass.; five sisters, Eveline Doiron of Moncton NB., Theresa Arsenault of St. Stephen, Elodi Bertin of Ontario, Marie (Merel) Lanteigne of Acadieville, NB and Irene McPhail of Westbrook Maine; sister in-law, Albertine Richard; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers, Hector and George; brother's in-law, Raymond Bertin and Sylvian Arsenault and sister in-law, Marie Richard. Elie joined the North Shore Regiment during the Second World War and served in Canada and the United Kingdom. He was employed as an attendant for 30 years at the Provincial Hospital and retired in 1980. Elie belonged to Legion Branch #69. Funeral arrangements are under the professional care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John NB. (646-2424). Visitations will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
