DOIRON, ROBERT -the death of Robert F. Doiron occurred at his residence, Kennebec Manor on Saturday, December 23rd, 2006. Bob was bon in Saint John, a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Hachey) Doiron, and had resided in Saint John all his life. He loved music and had many friends through his being a C.B.'er, where his handle was "Hamburger". He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Doiron. He will be sadly missed by his four sisters, Jeanette Marks of Bobccaygeon, Ont., Shirley Prowse (Neville) of Desoronto, Ont., Patricia Dolan (William) of Saint John; and Beatrice "Bette" MacDonald of Picton, Ont.; as well as by his numerous nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday morning, December 28th, 2006 at twelve o'clock. McMANN, MARGARET RUBY The death of Margaret Ruby McMann of Minto, NB occurred Sunday, December 24th, 2006 at the Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Salmon Creek, she was the daughter of the late Irvine and Grace (Spencer) Dykeman. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Lorna Hare (Gordon) of Fredericton; her son, Kevin Butler of Minto; four grandchildren, Michael Hare (Joanne), Debbie Hallett (Todd), Jennifer and Janice Butler; two great grandchildren, Jiveney and Lauren Hare; a brother, Jack Dykeman of Minto. Her husband, Lawrence McMann, predeceased her. Resting at the Minto Funeral Home (327-3490) with visitation Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 at the United Baptist Church of Minto with Pastor Kaj Binderup officiating. GIBBS, J. KENNETH – passed away on December 23rd, 2006 at his residence, 475 Woodward Avenue (Kennebec Manor). He was born in Saint John and was a son of the late Oliver Gibbs and Beulah (Willigar). Ken was a life long resident of Saint John and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Fletcher Carnwath Shaffer 1937-2006 GERMANTOWN, NB - Fletcher Carnwath Shaffer, 69, of Germantown passed away at the Moncton Hospital on December 21st, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. However he remained at his home surrounded by his family and friends until earlier that evening which was very important to him. He was born in Germantown on September 15th, 1937 the son of the late Garnet Shaffer and Orpah (Stewart) Shaffer- Ledger. He worked at Modern Construction for 43 years. He was known as the best grader operator of all time. He took great pride in his work and has worked on most of the roads all over Atlantic Canada. He was known for his great sense of humor, telling stories and jokes, you could always count of Fletcher for a good laugh even when he was going through difficult times himself. Fletcher was the type of man who you could count on if there was anything to be done, he was always willing to give a helping hand, even working with Modern after he retired he was there when needed. His family meant a great deal to him and he enjoyed all the times they shared especially times with his grandchildren. In the last few years he also enjoyed camping with his many friends. He will always be remembered and will live on in the hearts of his family forever. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Imelda (Hickey) Shaffer of Germantown; daughter, Valerie Bannister (Douglas) of Moncton; sons, Garnet of Albert County, Richard of Moncton, David (Judy) of Salisbury, Terry (Bobby-Jo) of Moncton; his sister, Gertrude Sargent of Germantown; brothers, Floyd (Dorothy) of Albert Mines and Carvel (Joan) of Germantown; sister-in-law, Marina Shaffer of Riverview and his beloved 14 grandchildren; he will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his step-father, Arthur Ledger; five brothers, Ronald, George, Reginald, Alphonse, Wallace; by a sister, Irene; and by brother-in-law, Pat Sargent. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. There will be Parish Prayers and a time of sharing at 8:30pm at the funeral home on Tuesday evening. The funeral Service will be held at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Riverside-Albert on Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 at 11am. Interment will be held in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, N.B. SPROULE, Robert Edward - At 3:40 AM on December 23, 2006, with great grace and dignity, Bob Sproule completed his life journey at home in the arms of his family. Born in London, Ontario on September 10, 1929. Bob's life was a testimony of love and caring for the well being of his fellow persons - young and old. Celebrating the gift of his life, along with all those whom he touched, are his wife and soul mate Sharon, and his children Lynne Dee and her husband Henry Mink, Joe and his partner Shelley Wilson and Jim and his partner Melissa Chavez. Bob's grandchildren Joe Trudeau and his wife Grace Chan, and Gabriel Mink share the joy of having Bob as a grandfather. Baby Stella Sproule will also know of the legacy of his love, and Vanessa, Jason and Lindsay Sproule have the proud knowledge of their grandfather Bob. Bob was a devoted educator and his love of the music, theatre and literature was willingly and joyfully shared with his students at A.B. Ellis Public School, and with his many friends and colleagues, He made life richer for all those he touched. THORPE, WILLIAM WELLINGTON Bill knew the history of Fredericton intimately and claimed that he had lived through a large chunk of it. He tagged along as a young man in September 1945 as the Carleton-York Regiment marched from the train to be honoured at the Legislature. He has been dedicated to the preservation of much that is important in our community - our records, our stories and our heritage buildings that mark the uniqueness of Fredericton. He was an active member of the Military Compound Board. Bill was one of the original members who helped organize Fredericton Heritage Trust in 1972. He was a President in the early years and was a long serving member on both the Nominations and the Plaque & Awards Committees. The Board of Directors of the Trust unanimously endorsed Bill as the choice of the guide for a private heritage tour of Fredericton for Charles, Prince of Wales in 1996. This has resulted in a heritage driving tour. In November 2006, Bill was acknowledged with a lifetime achievement award from Fredericton Heritage Trust. As a volunteer Bill curated a popular exhibit for the Provincial Archives, entitled, "New Brunswick Goes to War," that was later invited to Dordrecht in the Netherlands. He was a guest lecturer at the Provincial Archives and for other organizations contributing to public programming initiatives and opportunities for life-long learning for citizens. He coordinated and assisted in editing the manuscript of W.A. Squires, "Fredericton, The Past 200 Years." He co-organized Remembrance Day observances at FHS since his retirement. One of Bill's greatest contributions to Fredericton was his work on trails. He had a vision of river front trails and general river recreation as long ago as the 1970's, and his tireless efforts helped give Fredericton one of the finest trail systems in Eastern Canada. He has been an active member of the Fredericton Trails Coalition since 1989, and served this volunteer group in many capacities including four years as its president and also served as Director of Publicity. He was Chair of the Crosstown Trail Committee since 1999 and he was a Director of the N.B. Trails Council. Bill was author of Trails of Fredericton published in 1999. Bill was also Co-Chairman of the Fredericton Friends of the Railway, Incorporated which has undertaken the large challenge of preserving and putting to use the York Street Railway Station. He was a Member of the Riverfront Advisory Committee, and a member of the Accessions Committee of the NB Sports Hall of Fame. Bill believed in Fredericton's potential and did much to develop it. Bill was successful in organizing other volunteers, going out of his way to recognize the contributions of others regardless of how small: he never stinted in his own contributions and his genuine commitment motivated others to volunteer. His sharp wit, his sense of humour and his positive attitude to life, made working with him fun. Bill's contributions as educator, sportsman, coach, writer, editor, trail and the built heritage advocate, city councilor are extensive. Bill was a man of the people. He spoke to strangers, took great pride in his hometown and learned as often as he taught. He led by shining example and will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of his surviving family; his children Jennifer Thorpe (Andy Healey) Vancouver, Matthew Thorpe, grandson Sam, his brother Walter Thorpe (Pam) and his sister Catherine Hale. He was predeceased by his brothers Royden T Thorpe and Donald M Thorpe and his mother Helen Wandless Thorpe A Memorial Service will be held at the Christ Church Cathedral Thursday, December 28 at 2:00 pm. CHATTERTON, RALPH N. - The death of Ralph N. Chatterton, special companion of Carol Quinlan, occurred on December 25th, 2006 in St. Martins, NB, at his residence. Born in Saint John he was the son of Mildred R. (Smith) Chatterton and the late Theodore M. Chatterton. He was a veteran having served with the Canadian Navy and was a member of the RCL Jervis Bay Branch # 53. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #946 and was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Truck Driver. Besides his mother he is survived by his children, Neil T., Jeffrey T. (Brenda) and Cheryl Sypher (Roger), all of Baines Corner; their mother, Judith Chatterton; his special step-daughter, Nancy Quinlan of St. Martins; his brother, Calvin (Myrna); sister, Patricia Barsalou (Robert); his very special grandchildren, Katlyn, Thomas, Zachery, Alyssa, Erica and Rachel; his aunt, Sarah Chatterton; niece, Chantale; and nephews, Darren and Kyle. CUDMORE, WILLARD P. - The death of Willard Preston Cudmore of Saint John West, husband of 56 years to Doris R. (Hamilton) Cudmore, occurred on Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Born in Moncton, NB, on October 20th, 1922, he was the son of the late Wylder and Emily (Wright) Cudmore. Willard was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Canadian Army and worked with CNR in Moncton, Halifax and Saint John for 42 years before his retirement. He was a member of Portland United Church and an Honorary Steward of the Church. He was a member of Thistle Curling Club, honorary life member of the Saint John Art Club Inc., the President's Club and the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by one brother, Watson Cudmore (Shirley) of Moncton; one sister, Elva Paterson of Moncton; sister-in-law, Irene Hamilton; brothers-in-law, Douglas Hamilton (Margaret) and Octavius Gates; nephews, Ian Hamilton of Saint John, Glen Hamilton (Clare) of New York and Ross Hamilton (Gillian) of Toronto, ON; two great nephews, Spencer and Max; as well as several nieces and nephews in the Moncton area. Born in London, England in 1905, the daughter of the late Frank and Lydia Elderfield, and wife of the late Walter Burnham of Upper Coverdale. She was a member of the St. John's Anglican Church in Salisbury for many years and more recently a member of Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton. She was an active member of many church women's groups, including a life member of the ACW and a member of the Five Points Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Cursillo. She is survived by her daughter, Ethel Saunders (Reid) of Fredericton; and son, Fenwick Burnham (Doreen) of Upper Coverdale. HOVEY, RICHARD JAMES "DICKIE" The family regrets to announce the death of their brother, Richard James Hovey "Dickie", of Marysville. He was born on May 14th, 1950 in Fredericton, NB, and was the beloved son of the late Melvin and Phyllis (Gorman) Hovey. During his brief life, Dickie was devoted to his music. He is survived by two sisters, Marcia (Fred) McLellan of Taymouth, Carolyn (Jimmy) Scott of Charlottetown, PEI; one brother, Kevin (Vickie) Hovey of Marysville and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held from the Marysville United Church on Thursday, December 28th, 2006 at 2 pm with Dr. Norman Whitney officiating. JENSEN, MAURICE "MOE" W. - The death of Maurice "Moe" William Jensen of 712 Bay Street, Saint John West, husband of Patricia "Pat" (McAuliffe) Jensen, occurred on Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Sussex, NB, he was the son of the late John C. and Alice (Rothwell) Jensen. Mr. Jensen was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. He graduated from the New Brunswick Forest Ranger School in 1951 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces (Air Force) from 1954-1974, and later began a career with Irving Security until his retirement in 1990. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Paul Jensen (Melissa) of Rothesay; one daughter, Krista Jensen of Saint John; one brother, John Jensen (Elaine) of Victoria, BC; three sisters, Elsie Ross of Halifax, NS, Evelyn Todd (Arthur) of Port Colburn, ON and Thyra Evans (Roger) of St. Catharines, ON; two grandchildren, Alisha and Ryan Jensen; several nieces and nephews. LEBLANC, Joseph Antoine Daniel - In loving memory of Joe LeBlanc, age 91, who passed away peacefully on Friday morning December 22, 2006 at his home in Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve. Joe was predeceased by his dear wife Clara in 1982. Beloved father of Dawna LeBlanc, Jeanne Grubin (husband Vern), Wayne LeBlanc (wife Susanne), and Irving “Bing“ LeBlanc (friend Lana Williams), and dear brother of Irene Desmoulin and Stella LeBlanc-Pilon. Joe will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren, Michelle and Aaron Grubin, Joseph and Kathryn LeBlanc, and Christina LeBlanc-Peltier. His great- grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandria, Ashton, Dawson and April will miss their “Daddo““ very much. He will also be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, and god-children, Bonita Rivers-Kaboni, Doreen Bebamikawe, Sharon Shawanabin and Howard Gonawebi who were all very close and fond of him. The family thanks all the relatives and friends who came and responded unselfishly to provide support to the family. Joe enjoyed working in the outdoors and tending his garden in the summer. His love of animals was demonstrated by his care and concern of stray cats and dogs, and faithfully fed his birds during the winter months. Visitation will be at the Rabbit Island Centre on Tuesday, December 26th beginning at noon. Funeral mass will be held at the Holy Cross Mission in Wikwemikong on December 27th at 11:00 a.m. Joe will be cremated as he requested. Donations to the SPCA would be appreciated. Buddy was born in Lawrence Station, NB, July 24, 1942. He was the son of the late Milton and Dorothy Lindsay. He is survived by Janice (Getchell) Lindsay, wife of 43 years; five daughters, Sandra Smith (Dean), Rita LeBlanc (Tony), Patty Lindsay (Corey), Debbie Lindsay (Donald), Lori Dempsey (Danny); and the pride of his life, his nine grandchildren, Nikki, Michael, Charlie, Josh, Robbie, Erica, Jeffrey, Paige and Cody. Also survived by his two brothers, Burton (Ruth) and Raymond; four sisters, Rosemary (Ed Tucker) of White Rapids, NB, Jennie (Wayne Westhaver) of Little Ridge, NB, Rita Caldwell of Maynard, Massachusetts, Kitty (Dale Keating) of Milltown, NB; and several nieces and nephews.
