MARLES, Margaret (Peggy) Grace (nee Hughes) 1917 - 2006 Margaret (Peggy) Grace Marles (nee Hughes), beloved wife of the late Douglas Marles of Calgary, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2006 at the age of 89 years. Peggy is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Moser; granddaughter Joanna Moser; grandson Duane Moser and his girlfriend Kelly Grayton; sister Audrey Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by the Marriott family. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Douglas; an infant son; her parents Sydney and Pansy Hughes; brother Roy Hughes; and son-in-law Bob Moser. Mr. Taylor, who was born in 1955 in New Liskeard where he was also raised, is survived by his mother Joyce, brothers Don and Kirk and sisters Vicki and Debbie. He was predeceased by his father Don Taylor and brother Michael. A memorial service has taken place.

Emma May Lowrey-- After being ill for many years, Emma May Lowrey died in Englehart on April 27, 2006. She was born in Hamilton on January 9, 1916 to Lyda Robinson and Andrew Cain. Educated at Kerns Public School and New Liskeard Secondary School, she married George Charles Lowrey in Hamilton in 1937 and moved from Cane, Ontario to Englehart where she was a housewife. Mrs. Lowrey, a member of the United Church, is survived by her daughter Edith Major (Jacques), grandson Joseph Major, granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband George and son John. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart where the service was conducted April 29 by Reverend Peter Dahlin. Pallbearers were Jack Major, William Reid, Keneth Richey, Eldon Alberta, Logan Major and Joseph Major. Burial is at Rosegrove Cemetery. Relatives from out of town attending the service came from Timmins and Cochrane. In memory contributions went to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Well Women’s Clinic in Englehart.

Dennis (Ti-Jean) Godmaire died suddenly in London on October 5, 2004. He was in his forty-fifth year. Vera “Vickie” Follick With her loving family at her side, Vera “Vickie” Follick of Cobalt died at the Temiskaming Hospital on January 6, 2006 at the age of 74. Mrs. Follick was predeceased by her parents Percy Othmer and Bernadette Gannon; her husband Robert “Bob” Follick; and her siblings Willis Othmer and Connie Monk. Wayne A. Gamble Wayne Gamble of Latchford died January 11, 2006 as the result of an automobile accident on Highway 11. Born October 13, 1942 to John and Helen (nee Jackson) Gamble, he is survived by his wife Catherine (nee McDevitt) of Latchford, brother Ian Gamble of Thompson, Manitoba, sister Margaret (Keith) Stiles of Clewiston, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen. The funeral was arranged by Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury. The funeral mass will be conducted at St. John’s Catholic Church in Caledon East on January 21 at 10 a.m. Cremation has occurred. Gerry Godmaire Earlton resident Gerry Godmaire died at his residence on February 1, 2006. He had been ill for a year-and-a-half. He was born in Uno Park on April 25, 1938 to Eugenie and Maurice Godmaire. Educated in Uno Park, he married Fernande Chartrand in Thornloe on November 22, 1969. Mr. Godmaire was the owner of Loeb in Earlton and he devoted his time to the Knights of Columbus in Earlton. He is survived by his wife Fernande Godmaire, children Josee Leveille (Yvan), Chantal Bernard (Marc) and Martin Godmaire (Patricia), five grandchildren, one sister and two brothers. He was predeceased by his father, mother, two sisters and a brother. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart with the service conducted at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Earlton on February 5. Père Gilles Leblanc officiated. Pallbearers were Camille Poirier, Norm Poirier, Richard Godmaire, Gilles Godmaire, Michel Godmaire and Ronald Blain. Burial is at the Earlton Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from London, Kincardine, Timmins, Sudbury and the Tri-Towns. Arthur William Hearn of Haileybury died on Sunday, February 5, 2006 at the Temiskaming Hospital at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his parents; and his loving wife Margaret Lois Hearn (nee Miller) on February 25, 2005. Mr. Hearn is survived by his loving children Fay Boucher (and Mike), Darcy (and Jeanine) Hearn, Terry (and Marilyn) Hearn, Joanne (and Jacques) Joyal, Lonnie Hearn, Del Hearn, Richard (and Francine) Hearn, Shelley Vandermeer (and Denis) and Shawn (and Gwen) Hearn; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Noreen Tuominen (nee Miller) of New Liskeard died suddenly at the Temiskaming Hospital on January 26, 2006. Mrs. Tuominen is survived by her husband Ed whom she married July 3, 1971 in North Bay; sons Darcy of New Liskeard and Darryl (Michelle) of Barrie; sister Gail of Dundas; and grandchild Catherine. Arrangements were made by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard with cremation taking place in Rouyn. There was no service or visitation as requested by Mrs. Tuominen. Donations in memory of Mrs. Tuominen to the Canadian Muscular Dystrophy Association would be appreciated by the family.

Jacqueline Vern Montgomery. Cobalt resident Vern Montgomery died at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury, surrounded by her loving family, on February 7, 2006. She was 76. Born June 11, 1929 on the Princess Property in Coleman Township to the late Lucy (Johnston) Montgomery and James Montgomery. She lived and worked in Kitchener Waterloo, Preston and in Toronto until she returned home to Cobalt where she worked 30 years as the Assistant Post Mistress until her retirement. She had a wonderful sense of humour, a strong commitment to her family and a passion for golf. She was an active member of the Haileybury Golf Club where she organized many memorial tournaments. Along with her sisters, she volunteered her time and took great pride in the beautification of Silverland Cemetery. Ms. Montgomery was predeceased by her parents and brother Roy. She will be sadly missed by her siblings Lulubelle and Cleo of Cobalt, Hugh (Annette) of Kitchener and Bill (Maise) of Cobalt and her loving nieces and nephews, members of her extended family and her circle of friends. Cremation has occurred and a private family service has been held. A public memorial service to celebrate her life will be held next spring at a date to be announced. Spring interment will take place at Silverland Cemetery Cobalt. Linda Jean Letellier died suddenly in Cobalt on February 23, 2006 at the age of 35. She was born in Haileybury on June 30, 1970. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with family and friends. Ms. Letellier was predeceased by her grandparents Joseph and Amelia Yanyk and Raymond Eno. She is survived by her son PJ Roberge of Timmins; her parents Joyce Letellier of Cobalt and Edward (and Michelle) Letellier of Elliot Lake; her siblings Angy, Adam, Mark and Eugene; her grandmother Lucille Eno of Matachewan; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorne Elmer Taylor died peacefully at the General Hospital (Sault Ste. Marie) in the early hours of March 17, 2006 at the age of 80. He was predeceased by his wife Ida Taylor (nee Monk). Mr. Taylor is survived by his sister Carrie Nesbitt (Clinton) of Elmvale, many nieces and nephews and special friend Arthur. Formerly of New Liskeard, Larder Lake, Timmins and Wawa, Mr. Taylor worked for Bell Telephone for 41 years. He was a member of the Pioneer’s Club, Wawa Volunteer Fire Department and also volunteered for Christmas Cheer for 20 years. He will be sadly missed and remembered by many close friends and former co-workers. The funeral service was in the chapel of the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre on March 20. Reverend Bruce McLeish officiated. Interment is at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Humane Society or the New SAH Fund would be appreciated by the family.

John Thomas (Jack) Ridley, After a short illness, Jack Ridley of Harley Township died at the Temiskaming Hospital. He was born in New Liskeard on February 2, 1938 to John Ridley and Sarah Bowman. Educated in New Liskeard, he married Bernice Newman in Harley on April 30, 1960. Mr. Ridley was a long time employee of Star Transfer and later retired from Wabi Development. He was a loving father of five children, loving grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of two. He was also a chartered member of the Hudson Lions Club. Mr. Ridley was predeceased by his wife on March 3, 1997 in New Liskeard, siblings Robert Ridley, Joan Holden and Jean Skinner and by his parents. He is survived by his daughters Reta (Roger Desjardins), Dorothy (Paul Remillard), Cindy (Nelson Berg), Karen (Bruce Morrison) and son Jim (Brigette); grandchildren Cassie, Roger, David, Patricia, Crystal, Nathan, Nicole, Kayla, Julie and John; great-granddaughters Brenna and Kayley; brothers Raymond (Barb), Ted (Doreen), Arnold (Laurie), Jerry (Lorie) and Rodney; and sisters Linda Lee and Debbie (Charlie Lachapelle). The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard where the service was conducted by Peter Kerr. Cremation has taken place with burial of ashes at Harley Cemetery. Gladys Esther Myrtle Sherritt At the Sudbury Regional Hospital (Memorial Site), Gladys Esther Myrtle Sherritt (nee Messenger) died on March 24, 2006 with all of her loving children by her side. She was 81. She was born and raised in New Liskeard and she and her husband John Henry Sherritt moved to Sudbury in 1951 where they raised their eight children. Mrs. Sherritt was predeceased by her husband John Henry Sherritt in 2002 and by her daughter Judy in 2003. She is survived by her children Robert (wife Barbara) of Mexico, Gail of Vancouver, Gord (wife Debbie) of Quebec, Dennis (wife Cindy), Vicky (husband Les) and Joan, all of Sudbury, and Lori (husband Bernie) of Warren; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family expressed deep gratitude for the excellent care shown Mrs. Sherritt by the staff at Memorial Site. A private family memorial service was held in the R.J. Barnard Chapel at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home in Sudbury on March 27. Cremation was at the Parklawn Crematorium.

Harold Johnson of Cobden died peacefully with his family at his side in Caressant Care Nursing Home on March 6, 2006. He was in his ninety-first year. Mr. Johnson was originally from the McCool area and worked at the Upper Notch generating station before he went to the Chenean generating station to work as chief operator. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his wife Margaret Welch. Eileen Elizabeth Draper After a courageous battle with cancer, Eileen Elizabeth Draper died March 22, 2006 at the Englehart and District Hospital. She was born in North Bay on June 10, 1926 to Robert and Elizabeth (Nee Durrell) Rowe. Educated there, she married Robert Adam Draper in North Bay in 1946. She worked as a substitute teacher and was also a homemaker. They moved to Englehart in 1954 from Timmins. A teacher by training, Mrs. Draper taught in a one-room school in Kerns Township in the mid 1940s. After her marriage to her soul mate, Bob Draper, she became a full-time homemaker raising a loving family of five. During the 1960s she returned to the classroom as a supply teacher at Englehart Public School. Mrs. Draper loved to cook, a skill she successfully passed on to each of her children. She also found great pleasure in catering banquets on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary for Legion Branch 104 of which she was a member. She was equally adept at knitting, sewing and crocheting. Another one of her passions was fishing and she had her favourite spots at both the Hilliardton and Tomstown bridges and would regularly catch her limit of pickerel. It has been said that Mrs. Draper could catch pickerel in a mud puddle. Later in life she enjoyed playing the slot machines at Casino Rama and Keewadin. Mrs. Draper is survived by her sisters Grace Everingham and Joy (Eric) McGill of North Bay; daughters Beth (Bill) Dickinson of Englehart, Robin (Robin) Marshall of Kenogami Lake, Vickie (Allen) Lawrence of Tomstown and Bonnie Hopkins of Haileybury; son Bob (Becky) of North Bay; granddaughters Tammy Mallette of Kirkland Lake, Kara (Ryan Thompson) Marshall of Brantford, Kimberley (Andrew Barry) Draper of North Bay; grandsons Neil (Donna Shearing) Smith of Haileybury, Peter (Tracy) Smith of Englehart, Rob Lawrence of Uxbridge, Andrew (Cheryl) Draper of Ottawa, Christopher (Heather) Draper of Calgary, Ryan Marshall of Kirkland Lake; great-grandchildren Chelsea and Ava Smith of Englehart, Sierra, Regan and Autumn Lawrence of Uxbridge and Molly Mallette of Kirkland Lake; special nieces Doreen Roberts of Alliston and Joan Renaud of Temagami and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Draper in June 2005, her parents, sisters Florence, Bea and Edna and brothers Herb and Bob. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart where the service was conducted by Reverend Peter Dahlin of Emmanuel United Church. Friends and relatives attending the service from out of town came from Kirkland Lake, Haileybury, Temagami, Earlton, New Liskeard, North Bay, Ottawa, Brantford, Uxbridge and Alliston. In memory contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Annie Chief of Winneway, Quebec, died on March 26, 2006 at the age of 79. Mrs. Chief was predeceased by her husband Andrew Rodgers. She is survived by her children Lena (Louis), Alphonse, Roy, Jackie, Mabel, Victor, Bill, Yvonne and Kathleen, 28 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, her sister Cecile Chief, brother Ronald Chief and many other relatives and friends. Floyd G. Smith Sr. of Cobalt died at the Temiskaming Hospital on March 29, 2006 at the age of 76. Frank Goodyear On April 7, 2006 Frank Goodyear died at the Englehart and District Hospital. He had been ill a few months. He was born in Toronto in 1916 to James and Margaret Goodyear and married his wife Betty in Manitoba in 1944. Mr. Goodyear worked in mining, construction and exploration. He loved nature and wildlife and his hobby was gardening. Mr. Goodyear is survived by his wife Betty, children James (Ellen), Shirley (Arnold) McKale and grandsons Tim and Dan. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart where the service was conducted by Reverend Richard White on April 10. Pallbearers were Slim Kozak, Jim Goodyear, Dan Goodyear, Hugh Miller, Fred MacDuff and Richard Johnson. Burial is at the Englehart Cemetery. In memory contributions to the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.

Pearl Ethel Elizabeth (nee Jenkinson) Winters With sadness the family of Pearl announces her passing away quietly and peacefully at Temiskaming Lodge, on Thursday, April 6, 2006, in her eightienth year. Pearl was the beloved wife of the late Orvill Winters and a loving mother to Elenor (Danny Page) BC, Ron (Margaret), Mary Elizabeth (deceased), Bryan (Barb), Jack (Aline) and Robert (deceased). She was a beloved Grandma to Louise (deceased), Susan (Anderson), Linda (Waters) and Vicky Page (BC), David and Fraser Winters, Jason and Jeremy Winters and Steven and Stacie Winters. Pearl was the proud Great Grandma of eight and Great, Great Grandma of one. She is survived by her brothers and sisters Henry, Edwin, Ron and Bob Jenkinson; Clara Short and Asta Smith. Pearl loved music and played piano for the Sunday school and was a long time member of the choir at the United Church, New Liskeard. As a long term resident of Temiskaming Lodge Pearl enjoyed participating in the sing songs, playing bingo and cards with other residents and volunteers and keeping the staff on their toes and busy. A memorial service will be held from St. Paul’s United Church on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. with interment at Thornloe Heritage Cemetery. If desired, expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Temiskaming District Hospital. James Bradley Miller (1943-2006) The death occurred suddenly on April 21, 2006 in Richmond, British Columbia, of James Bradley Miller. Jim was predeceased by his father Henry James Miller in 1982 and first wife Gail (Leverre) Miller in 1991. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy of Abbotsford, B.C.; children Amanda (Tim) and Jason (Nicole); stepchildren Brianne and Jordan; grandchildren Jared, Lauren and Callin. im is also survived by his mother Pearl Miller, brothers Lee (Vikki), John (Barb) and sisters Verna (Earl) and Anne (Roddy). Jim deeply affected the lives of his family and his many friends in the Richmond and Abbotsford B.C. areas. Janet Pearl O’Brien- - The O’Brien Family announces with sorrow the death of Janet Pearl O’Brien at the age of 57 years. Mrs. O’Brien passed away at the Temiskaming Hospital on Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Born in New Liskeard, Mrs. O’Brien had been a resident of North Cobalt and most recently made her home at the Temiskaming Lodge. She is survived by her loving husband Francis O’Brien; her children Wendy (husband Mike) Bouffard, Wayne (friend Sue) O’Brien, Tanya (husband Grant) Robinson and Matthew O’Brien. Also left to mourn is her mother Pearl Baumhour; her grandchildren Kyle, Kara, Brock, Chloe and Dillon; and her siblings Donna (Ron) Beauchamp, Bruce (Dawn) Baumhour, Doug (Michi) Baumhour and Merle (Donna) Baumhour. Marie Claire Grisé (née Loranger) Marie Claire Grisé died suddenly in her seventy-eighth year at the Elliot Lake General Hospital on April 15, 2006. Mrs. Grisé, who was born July 25, 1928 , was a long-time resident of Haileybury, where she derived much gratification from the many hours spent volunteering at the Temiskaming Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband George Grisé, her parents Philippe and Hermine Loranger and brothers Remi, René, Marcel and Fernand. She is survived by her children Richard Grisé (Paulette) of Elliot Lake, Lillian Levesque (Albert) of Texas and Joanne Grisé (Richard) of Elliot Lake; grandchildren Danny, Cindy, William, Laura, Mike and Alanna; great-grandchildren Brandon, Nathan, McKenna and Kaleb; brothers Jean-Paul, Louis, Charlie, Normand, Bob, Lionel, Henri and Gilbert; sisters Alice and Jeannine; and also many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at Paroisse Ste. Croix in Haileybury. Shirley June Bradshaw -- On April 11, 2006 Shirley “June” Bradshaw died at Valleyview Home in St. Thomas in her eighty-second year. She was born in Schumacher on June 15, 1924 to Cynthia Ellen (Jones) and S. Tomkinson. She lived in St. Thomas the past eight years and had lived previously in Temagami and Millgrove. Mrs. Bradshaw was predeceased by her husband James Field Bradshaw and by her parents, sister Isabel Mitchell and brother Albert Bell. She is survived by her children Richard (wife Jean) of Bracebridge, Wendy (husband Chris Vanelshyk) of Temagami, Janis Bradshaw of Waterloo and Kevin (wife Marnie) of Yellowknife; sister Helen Lehigh of Burlington; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A public memorial service was held April 13 at Valleyview Home. Cremation has taken place with burial of ashes in Waterdown Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Bradshaw to Valleyview Nursing Home or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Paul Phillion of Redcliff, Alberta died April 15, 2006 at the age of 86. Mr. Phillion is survived by his sons Vern (Karen) Phillion of Wabasca, Alberta, Dellon (Bonnie) Phillion of Redcliff, Troy (Sandra) Phillion of Wabasca and Paul Phillion Jr. of North Cobalt; daughters Judy (Calvin Willard) Hillier of Redcliff (David Hillier predeceased 2001), Tammy (Todd) Dubie of Ottawa and Lisa (Paul) Rice of Redcliff; grandchildren Alliesha Phillion, Dellon Phillion, Valina Phillion, Tanya Beddard, Mathew Hillier, Mitchell Hillier, Travis Dubie, Andrew Phillion, Ashley Dubie, Calum Hillier, Adam Rice, Joshua Rice, Dominique Dubie, Isaac Dubie, Austin Phillion, Cindy Phillion, Terry Phillion, Bobby Phillion, Laura Phillion and Nicole Phillion; sisters Irene Nagomi, Rita Hettinger and Treasa Marcott. He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline on June 27, 2005; and two brothers, Wilfred Phillion and Leo Phillion. Mr. Phillion was born on May 5, 1919 in Hull, Quebec and was raised and educated in Latchford. He met his wife and they raised their family in the Batchawana Bay and Tri-Town area. For many years Mr. Phillion was employed in the fishing and mining industry. In 1990, they moved to Redcliff to be closer to their family. Besides spending time with his children and grandchildren, he lived his life for fishing and telling jokes. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. The family thanked Dr. Wardell, Rhonda from Home Care, Marj from VON, and Rachal Grach of Wabasca, Alberta. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Reuben Connor Tubman--On April 27, 2006 in Englehart, Reuben Connor Tubman died after a lengthy illness. He was born in Heaslip on July 13, 1920 to Norman and Mary Tubman. He married Margaret Porter in Englehart on December 3, 1941 and served during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Mr. Tubman enjoyed family times, camping and fishing in his retirement. He was also a member of Branch 104 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mr. Tubman is survived by his wife Margaret; children Wayne (Mary), Lee, Lynda (Larry), Garry (Sue) and Doug; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and brothers Lindsay (Hulda) and Irwin (Grace). He was predeceased by his daughter Donna, daughter-in-law Collette and siblings Bob, Norm, Wilmer, Etta, Violet and Lucy. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart where the service was conducted May 1 by Reverend Peter Dahlin. Pallbearers were Robert Rowlandson, Laurie Rowlandson, Daryl Rowlandson, Michael Rowlandson, Gary Andrews and Peter Porter. Burial is at the Englehart Cemetery. Ronald Ranger 1936-2006 After a prolonged illness, we sadly announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) Ranger on April 30, 2006. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Irene and four sons, Rheal, Richard, Raymond and Wayne. He is also survived by his twin brother, Don (North Bay) and sister, Mary (Brantford), Gilbert (Corunna) and Florence (Thessalon). He will be fondly remembered by his daughters-in-law, Terry, Kelly, Sylvia and Lisa and his wonderful grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Justin, Danielle, Rhyan, Genevieve and Shannon. Ron deeply affected the lives of family and friends with his commitment and work in the community. Eugene Matteau died peacefully at the Temiskaming Hospital on May 2, 2006 at the age of 90. Mr. Matteau was predeceased by his wife Léontine Ouimet and daughter Lucille in 1993. He is survived by his son Roger (wife Olga) of Sault Ste. Marie, daughter Lilliane (husband Clement Pothier) of Elk Lake, son Marcel of New Liskeard, daughter Eveline (husband Gary Wilson) of Mississauga; and grandchildren Lee-Ann, Rachel, Julie, Michelle, Richard, Raymond, Paul, Kristine, Bert, Crystal and Mark; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters Marie (97), Annette (94), Simone (93), Ivone (85) and Eva (83) all of New Liskeard. Paul Bruce Simmill On May 3, 2006 Paul Bruce Simmill died in Ottawa after having been disabled with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Kirkland Lake on August 24, 1950 and attended New Liskeard Secondary School. Mr. Simmill worked as a sales person at Bargain Hunter and was a member of the United Church. He enjoyed conversation, reading (history) and fishing. Mr. Simmill is survived by his adoptive father Ted Simmill, sister Wendy and brother Mike and by his son Jimmy. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret Simmill. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard with the service conducted by Reverend Wally Wood at St. Paul’s United Church. The excellent service included a choir and was followed by a lovely lunch provided by the United Church Women. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Windsor, Sudbury and Ottawa.

Robert Lewis Spencer - After a short illness, Robert Lewis Spencer died at the Temiskaming Hospital on May 8, 2006. He was born in New Liskeard to Louis and Annie Spencer in January of 1920. Educated in New Liskeard, he went on to serve during the Second World War from 1941-46. Mr. Spencer returned to work as a superintendent with Hill Clark Francis from 1946-1955, he was field services officer, Veterans’ Land Administration, from 1959-1975 and was building inspector with the Town of New Liskeard from 1975-85. Mr. Spencer, a member of the First Baptist Church and the Royal Canadian Legion, was service bureau officer with the Legion and he enjoyed carpentry, gardening and photography. Many times family and friends benefited from his care, concern and benevolence. Mr. Spencer was predeceased by his wife Audrey (nee Jones) in 2002 in New Liskeard. He is survived by his children Shirley (Brian Sinclair), Wendy (Steve Adams), Cathy (Harold Leaton) and Jane (Larry Morrow), seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral arrangements are by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard where the service will be conducted by Reverend Kitty Miller. Visitation is Wednesday, May 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Legion service at 7 p.m. The funeral is Thursday, May 11 at 2 p.m. Pallbearers are grandchildren John, Michelle, Penny, Peter, Carolyn, Sara and Scott. Burial is at the New Liskeard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Temiskaming Hospital or a charity of choice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Lois Evans --It is with great sorrow that the family of the late Lois Eleanor (McNeil) Evans announces her sudden passing on Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Hilliardton Road Railway crossing. Mrs. Lois Evans was predeceased by her husband Gordon (Flint) Evans and grandson Mathew Evans. As well Mrs. Evans was predeceased by her twin brother Lorne McNeil and brother Donnie McNeil and by her brothers-in-law Norman Evans and Clayton Wilson; her parents John and Izora (Morgan) McNeil and in-laws Edward and Hazel (Brown) Evans. Lois is survived by her four siblings Doug and Doris (Marriot) McNeil, Ann and the late Clayton Wilson both from New Liskeard, Bruce and Debbie (Laddard) McNeil of Saskatoon, Sk. and little sister Linda (Breton) McNeil. Lois was a huge help to her son whom she lived with, “Mr.” Mom Harvey Evans and was surrogate mother to Harvey’s four children William, Jessie, Jason and Jessica Evans of Englehart. Mrs. Lois Evans was also survived by her four other children Gord (Jr.) and Alberta (Ackley) Evans of Cobalt, Donna (Evans) and Dave Ryan of Englehart, Ron and Karen (Mountain) Evans of Kenabeek, Lori (Evans) and John Gregory of New Liskeard also by her “adopted daughter” Mary Anne McCallum of Savard Twp. Mom was very proud of all fourteen grandchildren Amanda (Ryan) and Tim Vigneault of Kirkland Lake, Lisa (Ackley Evans) and Josh Levesque of North Bay, Adam Ryan of New Liskeard, Mervin, Aaron, Dalyn and Marlow Evans of Kenabeek and new arrival great-grandson Javin Daniel Levesque of North Bay. Lois volunteered for the C.A.S. and was a loyal trusted friend to many. She enjoyed her bird “Elvis” and feeding the wild life at her Ingram Twp. home. Shirley Carol Lefebvre of Haileybury died peacefully, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family, on May 23, 2006 at the age of 54. David Gilles “Dave” Guillemette died at the age of 40 in Pembroke, Ontario on June 10, 2006. He was born in Welland and worked as a shipper at Grant Forest Products for many years and resided at 74 Paget Street in New Liskeard. Mr. Guillemette loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He enjoyed the simple things in life, time with his family and friends, camping and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his love of music, especially playing the harmonica. Mr. Guillemette is survived by his life partner Laurie Gibbons (Widdifield) and will be sadly missed by his children Erin and Alex Guillemette; stepdaughter Sabrina Gibbons; his mother Shirley Guillemette; sister Michele Guillemette (Brett Saari) and their children Scott and Cole Saari. The funeral service was held at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on June 14, 2006. Father John Lemire officiated. Jean-Marie Desrochers died at Northview Nursing Home in Englehart on June 30, 2006. He was born in Guérin, Quebec on February 7, 1931 to Marjorique and Délia Desrochers and moved to this area around 1956. Mr. Desrochers worked as a diamond driller and had been disabled since 1982. He lived a simple life making sure his children were cared for. He did an amazing job raising his children on his own. Mr. Desrochers, a member of Paroisse Sacre Coeur and Chevalier de Colomb, is survived by his brothers Gerard and Joseph and sister Cécile; children Michel, Marielle, Pierre (Caroline) and Claude; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard. Pallbearers were children Marielle, Pierre and Claude, grandchildren David, Jessy and Jamie. Burial is in Notre Dame du Nord. Donations to the CAT Scan Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Glenville Harvey (Glenn) Sutton --- Glenn passed away on July 2nd, 2006 at the Temiskaming Hospital in his 86th year. He was born in New Liskeard on June 3rd, 1921 to Henry and Clarissa Sutton, the youngest of seven children (all predeceased). After leaving school, he worked at the Wabi Iron Works until 1942 when he entered the Armed Forces until 1946. While serving in England, he met Joan Raynor in Nottingham. He married Joan in 1946 and brought her to Canada as a War Bride. He then resumed work at the Wabi until the late ‘50s when he started working as an Inspector at the Department of Highways. The Department later became the MTO from which he retired in 1985. Glenn was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 33, the Temiskaming Lodge No. 462, the Shriners and the Loyal Orange Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed travelling. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 60 years, his son Glenn (Joan) of Kincardine, as well as three grandchildren, John (Aimee) of Ottawa, Jennifer (Andrew Rutter) of Georgetown, and Graham (Shannon) of Toronto. A Legion Service and a Masonic Service were held on Wednesday evening, July 5th. The funeral service was conducted by Glenn’s nephew, David H. Jones, at Perrin Funeral Chapel on Thursday July 6, 2006. Pallbearers were Charlie Alexander, Bob Beardmore, Ted Beardmore, Roy Dunn, Gary Soucisse, and Graham Sutton. Final burial was in the Pioneer Cemetery overlooking New Liskeard and Lake Temiskaming. Glenn was a true gentleman and loved by all.

Gordon Walter “Ducky” Brillinger --The family announces with sorrow the death of their loved one, Gordon Brillinger at Temiskaming Hospital on Friday, July 28, 2006 with his family at his side. He will be sadly missed and forever loved by his wife Yvette of 43 years; and his three children: Rick (Tracy) of Temagami, Joanne of Cobalt and Barbara (Jeff) of Englehart. He will be missed by his seven grandchildren: Terry, Ashley, Maureen, Miranda, Naomi, Rickilee and Ethan. Also left to mourn is his sister Jean (Roy) Osberg of North Bay and his in-laws: Roger (Maryann) Lapointe and Yvonne (Louis) Quenneville all of Cobalt. Gordie will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Irene Lapointe of Haileybury and his many nieces and nephews. Gordie spent most of his years working at Wm. Milnes & Sons in Temagami until the closure in 1993 when he retired shortly afterwards. He loved playing his guitar and singing his signature song “Charlie’s Shoes,” playing around in his workshop and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humour and touched the lives of everyone who knew him. The family received friends at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cobalt on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 beginning at 10 a.m. Funeral mass followed at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged. Jacques Dupuis After suffering a stroke in September, Jacques Dupuis of New Liskeard died November 7, 2006 at the Temiskaming Hospital. He was born in Haileybury on September 17, 1921 to Ambroise and Anonciade Dupuis. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Dupuis worked as a transport driver for Labonté, then worked at Wabi Iron and Steel Corp. until his retirement. Mr. Dupuis will be remembered for his woodworking skills, building a model team of horses and cart for all his children and grandchildren. Despite his multiple medical problems, he was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed being with his family. Mr. Dupuis was predeceased by his first wife, Thérèse, in 2003; daughter Marie; parents Ambroise and Anonciade; siblings Mozart, Paul, Roger, Denise, Pierette and Gaetanne. He is survived by his wife Rita (Labonté) whom he married in New Liskeard in 2004; children Huguette Dupuis (Louise Pinard), Suzanne Brillon (Maurice), Gérald Dupuis (Marilyn), Louise DeJoseph (Ian), Carmen MacKewn (Fred); grandchildren Jacinta and Alyssa DeJoseph, Denis Dupuis, Patrick and Emily MacKewn; stepchildren Claudette (Mario Pinard), Armel Labonté (Linda) and their children. Pallbearers were Ian DeJoseph, Fred MacKewn, Denis Dupuis, Mario Pinard and Armel Labonté. Burial is at the Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Vancouver, Hearst, Ottawa, North Bay and Hamilton.

Marc T. Seguin New Liskeard resident Marc T. Seguin died at his home, after a battle with cancer, on October 18, 2006. Born in Timmins on June 4, 1941 to Lorenzo Seguin and Noella Sigouin, he received his education there. Mr. Seguin married Jacqueline Côte and worked as an accountant, moving to this area in 1990 from Timmins. Mr. Seguin, a member of Paroisse Sacre Coeur, had a deep and abiding faith in God. He was an honest, charitable man who had a good sense of humour and good family values. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; daughter Chantal Winger (Brian); sons Michel Seguin (Lynda) and Daniel (Jennifer); sisters Françoise Lepine (Robert), Rev. Sister Yvette Seguin and Huguette Legault (Robert). Mr. Seguin was predeceased by his sister Gisele (Leo) Lefebvre and Agathe Venner (Brian); brothers Gilles and Mona Seguin, Francois Seguin (Simone), Yves and Jeannine Seguin. The funeral service was conducted October 21 at Paroisse Sacre Coeur where the choir added inspiration to the service. The family thanked violinist Judith Robitaille for her contribution.

Eve Lucas (nee Grant) On October 16, 2006, with her daughters by her side, Eve Lucas died at the Timmins District Hospital. She is survived by her daughters Mickey (Doug) Thompson of Edmonton and Lorraine (Larry) Wiwchar of Cobalt; her grandchildren David (Pam) Wiwchar, Andrea (Lloyd) Thompson-Dick, Tandice Wiwchar, Aaron (Briana) Thompson, Daryl (Susan) Thompson; and her great-grandchildren Katie (11), Tommy (8), Beth (5), Amber (3) Wiwchar and Wynne (8), James (6), Eamon (15 months), and William (2 weeks) Thompson; brother Ralph Grant of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband William Charles Lucas on December 26,1973. Eve moved to Timmins in 1961 and has been a resident of the Georgian Residence for the past two years. Born May 20, 1923, Mrs. Lucas was known as a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. Her kind spirit was felt by all those who knew and loved her. Her song will be missed, but now she sings for a greater audience. The family gratefully acknowledges the physicians and nurses in Medical Two for their professional and attentive care. Claire Gaudette, 68, died in Temiskaming Hospital September 25, 2006, after a valiant battle with cancer. She resided on Marcella Street in Haileybury for 19 years and was a public health nurse with the Timiskaming Health Unit from 1986 until her retirement in July, 2005. Born in Val d’Or, Quebec on February 25, 1938, to parents Alphonse Gaudette and the former Josephine Chartrand, she graduated from Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, Que. on April 15, 1959. She served as a missionary nun in Papua, New Guinea as a nursing instructor with the Order of Daughters of Wisdom for ten years starting in 1962. The late Ms. Gaudette worked at the Ottawa General Hospital and at the North Bay Civic Hospital before moving to take the public health nurse position in New Liskeard. Surviving her are brothers Fernand Gaudette and his wife Claire of Montreal, Philip Gaudette and his wife Evelyn of Ottawa, Henry Gaudette and his wife Billie of Earlton; a sister Cecile Lemieux and her husband Normand of Dollard Des Ormeaux, Que. and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by both her parents and a sister Jeanette Gaudette. Funeral arrangements were by the Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard and cremation followed. A memorial service was held at the chapel on Friday, September 29, 2006, with Pastor Peter Ruel of the Living Way Church, Englehart officiating and Pastor Luc Hamelin assisting. Psalms 100 was read by her brother Henry and the eulogy was delivered by her nephew Darren Gaudette. Burial is yet to be determined. Donations would be gratefully acknowledged by the family to the Temiskaming Hospital CAT Scan Foundation. During her life, Ms. Gaudette was a great advocate of promoting a Smoke Free Ontario in the Temiskaming area and she was a proud recipient of the Heather Crowe Award. Friends and relatives attending the service were from the Tri-Towns, Earlton, Englehart and North Bay.
